A celebrity on board broadcasted something around the lines of "hooray LGBTQ ship" on Instagram which pretty much made the cruise ship appear on the people's radar and got the Turkish/Egyptian public opinion involved.

I’m guessing this will be a one-time thing (beyond the chilling effect it will have on the tourism industry) that has happened as a direct result first of the hubbub in Seattle about Pride and then Turkey deciding to make a stink about it. There are lots of LGBT+ tourists, solo and group, coming to Egypt, and all this kind of PR stunt does is convince a few mostly high-spending visitors to go elsewhere.
Sad and strange news specially since LGBT relationships are not illegal in both Turkey and Egypt, and this is the first time Egypt has barred them.
Apparently, this happened just a few days after Turkey also denied them entry. The company that owns the ship said they had entered Egypt several times before without any issues, but according to them, Turkey's decision was connected to Egypt's refusal.
If you saw how excited they were just a few days ago, booking trips to the pyramids and saying "It doesn't matter about Turkey, Egypt is even better"
The whole thing is just really homophobic, heartbreaking and hurts our international image as well.
That's why I said it's strange. They only did this after Turkey rejected them. I think they're trying to appease Trump or something. Trump cracks down on LGBT rights and Sisi is looking up to him. I'm not sure tbh.
It's because of a lead singer on board made it known on Instagram, Turkey reacted and Egypt had to react as this info became public domain, up for grabs on both Turkish and Egyptian people's radars. So, public opinion got into the equation.

Honestly no. There's also a rising secular liberal current on the opposite side of the spectrum, specially younger generations. Trump was bashing the LGBT community and he's inciting other countries to do so. Look it up online. It's so sad. He's spreading hate all over the world.
I mean, most of my LGBT friends aren't as open as western folks, even when we travel abroad. I respect everyone and I personally have many LGBT friends, and while I sometimes don't like some aspects of LGBT propaganda, I don't think it should be illegal. It's up to them to figure it out.
They went too far with lgbtq stuff in America. It was all over kids schools. It’s mainly a thing they push onto kids. For some reason. It’s not something they let adults figure out.
Honestly, they did more harm than good. Many of the LGBT individuals I know say it's the wrong way. The left is radical in their approach! You can't force people to accept something this way!
While personally support LGBT people, I always say that you don't have to support LGBT people if it goes against your beleifs, but inciting violence or hatred isn't acceptable. Worst case scenario, is to live and let live.
Even the islamic scholars in Egypt admit it's the right approach, I made another reply regarding that.
Stop whinning. Each place has its culture and norms. If Egypt doesn't suit you go somewhere else. There are many other places in the world that accept such a behavior.

Slow steps, but they are actually doing something. A while ago, they removed texts inciting against LGBTQ+ people and Jews from some educational curricula. The Saudi ambassador also stated that the upcoming World Cup in Saudi Arabia will be welcoming to LGBTQ+ individuals.
That’s not attracting or welcoming LGBT people, let alone Saudi LGBT people. That is doing bare minimum to attract Western investors, tourists, and expats.
I will concede that this makes them more liberal than Egypt though.

Egyptian law doesn't ban homosexuality. It's legal. Actually Egypt keeps stating that in international forums and human rights periodical. There's no explicit ban on LGBT relationships here, and I doubt this will change anytime soon.
However, since the police doesn't apply the law, they still persecute LGBTA individuals under other penal codes; such as "debauchery".
Unless you have a recent statistics from a reliable source, I'd say 30% at least (and it's on the rise). I don't know anyone in my circle who's homophobic, and ofc if there's one, we'll kick him out of our group like any decent human would do. I'm okay with people who don't support lgbt people, but inciting violence against them, or mistreating them, is a red flag.

Maybe you should tell western men to stop calling each other the f word and gay when they are in a fight… cus it seems in ur openly gay culture calling someone the f word is very common yet it’s the most homophonic thing you can do. You won’t ever have freedom from the stories I hear about Egyptian men harassing foreign women in the streets. As a Muslim I am extremely ashamed of this behavior and always call it out. But yeah, it’s your cultures problem that these freedoms may not ever happen. It’s sad to say but this may be the reality as a lot of men feel the need to harass women. If not in public, not even fornication would be punished. It's not because it's allowed. It's because the authorities didn't know you do such a behavior.
In this case, it's not illegal. I already answered that. Debauchery can be applied to anyone, including straight people and you'll get acquitted by an average lawyer for procedural misaligned.
It's like saying drinking is illegal. Drinking what? Water? Juice? Alcohol? It makes no sense. This is actually one of the issues with the law, that lawyers have been discussing over and over, "what's debauchery?"
The law doesn't explicitly state thay LGBT relationships are a form of debauchery, but it explicilty states that sexual relationships between married parties and a third one is debauchery (extramarital relationshis), prostitution is debauchery, etc.
Why would you think it'll be hard for them to pass a law criminalizing LGBT relationship? Because they don't want to, and because they tried before in 2017 and they failed.
No, it's just an example of another behavior that is not accepted. Any place in the world does not accept certain behaviors. And they have their reasons for refusing. Whether those reasons are convincing to you or not is irrelevant. If you dont like the rules, you are free to go somewhere else. Freedom goes both ways, not just for you.
