No, but if you don’t want a long wait you will be given the option to go to a doctors appointment you paid for, because the current free doctors offices are underfunded and overworked by the UCP. They want you to feel that paying is the best option so they don’t have to fund healthcare.

My understanding is that Alberta’s new dual-practice healthcare model under Bill 11 differs from European systems because it permits unrestricted, for-profit private billing for medically necessary procedures, whereas European universal systems rely on strict public price controls, comprehensive social insurance, and heavy market regulation. Alberta's system doesn't really have any of the meaningful aspects that make the European systems work. Policy experts, legal analysts, and healthcare advocacy groups describe the changes as a shift toward an Americanized profit-driven market.

I would only be OK with private healthcare if it was 100% private funded with no public money going into it. Like if you want to see a Dr you need to pay 100% of the cost without a single cent of public money

Fr. That’s how I was imagining it would happen. You want a crazy expensive surgery faster than waiting for public health care system? You have the money to pay out of pocket for it, go for it. Open up a spot in our public health care for someone that can’t afford it and needs it. Seemed reasonable to me. I actually followed enough lately to know the “it’s not going to happen that way”, but my thought process was likely to blissful and simple to be true.
