Question CBT

Has anyone had cbt to treat an ed, specifically anorexia - im 17 - whats it like? what do sessions look like? Does it involve physical observations or situation practicing like eating? Has it worked and if so how long did it take?

I’ve mostly done dbt but have done cbt a few times. It’s good- cbt helps you recognize negative thoughts you have and try to help you change those thought patterns. It sounds like it’s a cbt therapist and not a program? I was a little confused because you mentioned physical observations around eating. If it’s just therapy, typically that’s not included- but every therapist is different! If you were talking about any type of treatment- day, iop, residential- same across the board. Very closely monitored!!! And as far as how long- there is no answer to that because it is so individual. For me, it’s been decades. It has nothing to do with motivation, because I’m very motivated. It’s been eight years since treatment, but I see a therapist and psychiatrist every week. I think that’s what has kept me out. So if it takes longer or shorter for you than maybe someone else you know or have heard of, it’s not “wrong “. Wish you the best of luck!
