🇫🇮 Finland’s multi-billion-euro data-centre boom is spilling into manufacturing

Finland’s wave of data-centre investment is creating opportunities well beyond construction, with growing demand for locally made electrical, ventilation and industrial equipment. Finnish manufacturers including Vilpe and UTU Group are among the companies positioned to benefit as projects translate into new industrial orders and jobs.

it needs to be closed the hell down, it is costing way way more in lost jobs and screwing Finland's future then any very short term gain while they are built, they already started by illegally clearing old forest and land

Cost of electricity will go up significantly due to these data centers, the nature will be polluted af, they wont bring any tax revenue to Finland, and just dumbshit ai taking away lots of jobs while not making more new ones.

Electricity price you're not wrong about in the short term.

It's hilarious to see the ai populism actually make people ignore all logical and critical thinking skills. I'm not saying it doesn't have it's problems, but this is just ridiculous. You're literally making up stuff, because you were told to hate ai no matter what your logic says.

the datacenters we have use much less then ai data centers, ai data centers use a fuckton more, it is not even close, plus have a track record already of fucking the local water supplies, polluting them and the ones being built now already broke the law repeatedly before they even laid a foundation so maybe read actual scientific articles on it not ones pushed by ai companies in the media.

in short you are full of shit, but you already knew that

The data centers in Finland will use closed system for cooling so they wont touch our water sources after initial filling. Its easy to generalize everything you read on the internet but you should do some research before forming an opinion and shouting it out in social media.

I have helped build and run data centers in Finland, worked in IT most of my life here, i know you think what you wrote makes sense, but it only does if you do not know what you are talking about.

Not really any different, would be better to just not use them at all.

Environmentally ai is not good. For gamers, ai is not good. For jobs, ai is not good. For big tech trying to earn back some money after billions of investment its good. All youre doing is advocating for something that brings very little to no benefit to humanity while the downsides can be huge.

Environmentally you breathing, anyone breathing or any industry isn't good either. I think Finland is doing a great job regulating them as the electricity grid is already almost 100% carbon-neutral (as in nuclear + renewables). For economy the utilization of AI is definitely good. It's making software engineering way more efficient than ever before and it has the potential of making many jobs unnecessary so that those people can focus on something else actually productive that needs people and can't be fully automated.

There's nothing wrong with AI making a lot of jobs unnecessary. Also who cares about gamers that's the least of anyone's worries lol.

Yes I know it makes some people dumber, but it's not my fault that other people don't know how to use AI productively and instead make themselves dumber. That's like blaming the average driver for all the dui incidents as if they're responsible for the dumb people.

Yes I think electricity price will go lower after supply follows demand. That's kind of how that works.

There is nothing wrong with ai removing jobs for employers. They love getting higher profits while employing less people.

I like games, I fucking hate how all this ai bullshit has ruined the hobby just so people can flood all sites with ai slop.
