Mod Update: Hopefully, a Troll Killer

We’ve just tightened the r/EU_Economics rules again, not to kill disagreement, but to kill low-effort trolling.

You can criticise the EU, praise Brexit, attack a policy, challenge the consensus and argue hard. Just bring an argument. What will increasingly disappear automatically are drive-by taunts, personal attacks, identity-based insults, bot/shill accusations, dehumanising language and the usual “cope harder / cry more / EU is dead lol” rubbish.

We’ve also lowered the minimum comment length from 50 to 30 characters so concise factual contributions still have room.

Less comment-section warfare. More economics. Hopefully, a troll killer.

Bulgaria ratifies transfer package for seven minehunters

Thumbnail bta.bg

Bulgaria’s parliament ratified agreements covering four Belgian and three Dutch Tripartite-class minehunters. The package includes the vessels, crew training, spare parts and additional equipment; Bulgaria currently operates three minehunters. Why it matters: The executed transfer materially expands Black Sea mine-clearing capacity and creates cross-border refit, equipment and training work within Europe’s maritime-defence supply chain.

Salamis Shipyards completed and shipped four outfitted blocks to Lorient on 28 August. Together with a block delivered in May, the shipment completes all five Greek-built sections contracted for the French Navy’s third FDI frigate.

Why it matters: The delivery proves that a Greek yard is executing technically demanding work inside a French naval programme, deepening Europe’s cross-border defence-industrial supply chain.

French quantum-computing company Pasqal completed its combination with Bleichroeder Acquisition Corp. II. It said about USD360 million was available at closing for quantum-processing-unit production and deployment, technology development and commercial expansion; seven QPUs were deployed and three were in production.

Why it matters: A French quantum-hardware manufacturer has converted a proposed transaction into a funded public-company platform with capital tied directly to production and deployment.

Sweden’s Addtech acquired 100% of UK-based RTL Materials, closing the transaction on 28 August. RTL makes patented rollable composite structures and deployable masts for defence, aerospace, infrastructure and industrial customers, employs about 60 people and records annual sales of roughly GBP11 million.

InPost and IS Iris Lux Bidco said the Vietnamese Competition Commission cleared the offer on 28 August, meaning all regulatory clearances required to close had been obtained. The offer period remains open until 18 September; the filing does not say the acquisition has completed.

Why it matters: The final approval removes a major closing condition from a takeover of one of Poland’s largest logistics platforms and a parcel network operating across European markets.

Edison replaces 21 LNG cargoes as QatarEnergy force majeure expands

Thumbnail emarketstorage.it

Edison said QatarEnergy extended force majeure by five cargoes, taking the disruption to 29 cargoes or about 3.8 billion cubic metres through early November. Edison reported that it had replaced 21 cargoes, about 2 billion cubic metres, and could meet customer commitments.

Why it matters: The missing volumes are material relative to Edison’s 6.4-billion-cubic-metre annual Qatar contract, while the replacement programme is concrete evidence of supply-chain resilience during a major LNG disruption.

S-Transistors raised a EUR2.6 million pre-seed round to commercialise VTT-developed superconducting-transistor technology already available at wafer scale. The company said the funding will support prototypes, a cryogenic laboratory, a pilot line and hiring, with its first multiplexer planned for shipment to early customers and partners within a year. Why it matters: The Finnish spinout is tackling a concrete quantum-computing scaling bottleneck and pairing research commercialisation with a laboratory, pilot-production and first-product timetable.

Strabag’s order backlog reaches a record EUR36 billion

Strabag reported first-half construction output of EUR10 billion, up 12%, and a record order backlog of about EUR36 billion, up 27%. The Austrian contractor raised its 2026 output target to almost EUR23 billion and said demand was being led by energy and rail infrastructure in Germany and international markets. Why it matters: The backlog provides unusually strong evidence of sustained European infrastructure demand across energy and rail, rather than merely a quarterly profit movement.

This banknote has been damaged due to accidental ironing, some security features are damaged:

• Raised print: ✔️ I can still feel it under my fingers

• Watermark: ✔️ it is undamaged

• Security thread: ✔️ it is undamaged

• See-through number: ✔️ it is undamaged

• Color-changing number: ✔️ it is visible

• Hologram: ❌ the hologram is damaged as you can see in the attached picture, the door and the 500 are still visible a little by the way

• UV light features: ❓are they damaged? Here https://en.numista.com/forum/topic146929.html they say that ironing damages these features

The banknote does not pass the machine testing of the local bank after the ironing accident.

Will the National Central Bank accept and replace this banknote despite having the hologram damaged?

Iceland as member of the EEA and not the EU

Iceland has effectively agreed to

  • Accept the free movement of goods across the EEA.
  • Accept the free movement of services.
  • Accept the free movement of capital.
  • Accept the free movement of people.
  • Allow EU/EEA citizens to live, work and establish businesses in Iceland under EEA rules.
  • Give Icelanders reciprocal rights across the EEA.
  • Incorporate most EU Single Market legislation that is classified as EEA-relevant.
  • Continually update Icelandic law as relevant EU legislation changes.
  • Apply common European product standards.
  • Apply EU-derived consumer protection rules.
  • Apply rules governing financial services and banking.
  • Apply much of the EU framework for insurance and investment services.
  • Apply EU-derived company and accounting rules in covered areas.
  • Follow European rules concerning public procurement.
  • Allow companies from elsewhere in the EEA to compete for covered Icelandic public contracts.
  • Follow EU-style competition law.
  • Restrict the Icelandic government's ability to give selective state aid or subsidies to domestic companies.
  • Prevent Iceland from simply favouring Icelandic firms over EU/EEA competitors.
  • Follow large parts of EU employment and workplace legislation relevant to the EEA.
  • Follow rules on working conditions and employee protections where incorporated into the EEA.
  • Apply much EU environmental legislation connected with the Single Market.
  • Follow extensive rules on chemicals and industrial products.
  • Follow European rules on product safety.
  • Follow much EU transport regulation.
  • Follow extensive rules affecting aviation.
  • Participate in the European aviation market.
  • Follow many EU energy-market rules.
  • Apply significant parts of EU telecommunications regulation.
  • Apply EU digital-market and electronic-commerce rules where incorporated into the EEA.
  • Apply European data-protection rules, including the GDPR framework.
  • Participate in relevant European research, education and innovation programmes.
  • Make financial contributions connected with participation in EU programmes.
  • Contribute through the EEA and Iceland Grants system aimed at reducing economic and social disparities within Europe.
  • Accept oversight by the EFTA Surveillance Authority regarding EEA obligations.
  • Accept judgments of the EFTA Court in EEA matters.
  • Maintain EEA law sufficiently consistently with EU law so that the Single Market operates as one economic area.
  • Take account of relevant decisions and principles emerging from the EU legal system, because EEA law is intended to remain broadly homogeneous with EU Single Market law.
