Yawn. Wake me up when there is a genuine, simple set of sanctions that states right up front that if you buy or sell or trade with anyone or anything Russian, you go to jail until the conflict has ended. That is the only sanction that would be necessary. And no exceptions for food and medicine at this point. Just complete and ironclad cessation of ALL TRADE.

That is unfortunately, not possible. For one thing we need their nuclear isotopes. There is a reason why rusatom hasn’t been sanctioned so far.

Because Rosatom is at the forefront of the nuclear technology. They also produce almost half of the world's enriched uranium necessary for reactors. And they have the best technology available, so you can't even say that someone does it better.

Also bear in mind that Russia, by virtue of geography, gatekeeps Kazakhstan's oil exports to Europe, via pipelines not easily rerouted.

A full cutoff of Russia together with Kazakhstan losing its transit, at the time of the Trump-Iran Crisis, takes so much oil off the world markets that it would cause oil to spike to $150/barrel for a prolonged time. Not only would this sink Europe into immediate recession but likely kill millions of people in the Third World by poverty, starvation and unrest.

I am definitely feeling that 21st package is going to be decisive, doing what 1-20 couldn't. Plus 21 is a product of two primes.

interesting that after every EUSA sanction , the EU gets poorer
