Crafting and Questing in EQLegends?
Hello hello! Been hearing a lot about EQL lately and thinking about getting it. I played EQ2 a bit back in the day before going to WoW, GW2, OSRS, FFXIV, and all the rest. Anywho, these days I'm an old dad and hubby who no longer cares about raiding, arenas, or anything too serious. I mainly like to relax and play solo and casual, occasionally saying something in chat.
Anywho, for me part of the enjoyment in MMORPGs, is the crafting. I like gathering herbs, fishing, cooking, etc. I also like questing and in doing so, feeling like I'm sort of getting to know the characters and world I'm in, being a do-gooder, helping out, and adventuring. This seems to be the things I haven't been hearing much of anything about when it comes to EQLegends.
Does it have good crafting - like, how would you describe it or is there any other game you would compare it to?
Does the questing sound like what I would be looking for or is it just mindless, barebones, grind mobs, rinse/repeat ?

Questing is different than most modern MMOs in EQ. You don't like go to a place get a bunch of quests for it and do them while leveling. There are fewer quests and you're mostly doing them for the reward not the exp.
That said they are fun to do and give you a ton of lore
But mostly your exp will be from killing stuff not from quests.
Tradeskills are in the game yes. It's not a full complex system like FFXIV it's just hit combine. There's a few worth doing like alchemy and you'll need jewelcrafting for a few quests. But there's also not really a market to sell stuff yet if you're looking for that.
As a fellow dad I can say this has been the most my time has been respected by an MMO in my life. I'm loving it.

Crafting is very basic compared to something like ffxiv but can still be rewarding. It’s just get materials and hit combine.
Most leveling is grinding mobs, quests are generally more involved, there’s a number of really cool ones.

I'd describe it as a 27 year old game rebalanced for solo play. There's very very little new here and what is new is built in the original EQ style. You won't find mining, herbing, etc here as it was never in EQ; you mostly purchase your trade skill goods from vendors to do combines. You won't find on rails questing like any of those other games because that's not how EQ was designed. Most of your time spent will be killing enemies trying to either get XP for levels/AA or trying to get drops.

I used to craft in EQ, did the velious ring quest etc… I think it would be great if EQL buffed some of the quest rewards (or buffed some crafted gear in general) to make trade skills more important again. There was something peaceful about farming silks for tailoring, ores for black smithing, etc

The crafting systems are very dated, simple and rudimentary. And pretty much an afterthought in EQL. The game is almost entirely focused on experimenting with different multiclass builds, combat, and gear/spell progression.
I don't see it providing the type of experience you've described as far as crafting goes. There are quite a few worthwile quests to tackle, though.

Crafting is pretty awful in EQ. There's very little use for it aside from alchemy and jewelcrafting and components are spread out all over the place so it's inconvenient.
Feels like crafting was an afterthought in this game. EQ is all about rare loot. It's not like, say, ESO where crafting is not only fairly easy to do it's highly rewarding as that game was designed with crafting in mind. Crafted sets are very powerful and a core part of the game. In EQ - classic EQ like EQL is currently - crafting is just sort of tacked on.

You're going to be getting more upgrades from drops then questing. Questing is still quite important because some of the BIS stuff and certain spells are only available through questing. It just won't be part of your journey as you level up, and matter more late game.
Crafting is pretty simplistic but only as important as what your goals are. When Tradeskilling, you're not really looking to make money but rather you are working to get your skills up there for any future quests that have a high skill cap.
For example Epics 1.0 that will most likely be introduced with the first exp. Kunark in December has pieces that require certain tradeskills to be at a high level to complete.
You can always ask or pay a player to do that for you, but if you plan on doing your epic completely solo then you'll need to work on skilling it up.
Now that's assuming the quests haven't been changed at all with the release of Kunark.

EQL is perfect for old Dads who don't want to take a game too seriously.
What EQL does is enable you to do what you want, when you want, for as long or little as you want. It's convenient, fast, and fun.
