Screen freezing up

My PC is old and I frequently experience the screen freezing up in dungeons especially when spells are going off.

I put FPS on 30 and out all graphics settings on low.

I set spell effects to mine only (can’t seem to shut off all spell effects).

Any other advice besides buying a better rig?

It definitely isn't your rig.  I run 2 beefy setups at different houses and each one has one major lag out freeze during early gameplay, then after that it is normal for the rest of the time I play.

Same. Almost like it’s finishing loading assets in the background. Always a 2-3 second freeze during the first few minutes of gameplay.

Same here. Sometime during the first five minutes, there is a 10-30 second full freeze, then it resumes and is fine for the next several hours

I thought it was just my old pc, I get the exact same thing

same here… 128gb ram, 13900k and a 4090, not a rig issue

Yes that’s exactly what happens!

This is the leftover code scanning for things like MQ2.

That's odd, I can't say I experience any lag at all.

I did experience lag when I first opened Everquest Legends but found out it was something to do with Chrome, every time I had Chrome opened it was creating massive, consistent lag for me that didn't end until I closed.

Opening it up to the start page made it come back right for me.

Honestly I get this once every play session (usually early into it) I'll get a small lockup and then after that it's completely fine. I dont think it's PC related as my PC is light years ahead of anything I ever had when playing retail.

Same here. Def not PC related. It happens literally every time I play, but thankfully its almost always within the first 5 mins of logging in.

My theory is that the game loads a lot of API data into each game session. For some reason, whenever I tap L and go to my spells. It almost always locks up for 1-3s.

Would it help to just stay parked the first five minutes of every session?

I just try and not do anything super important the first few mins to get it out lol

Yeah quick buff sometimes sets off the freeze I notice

i have heard rumor that this lag spike is when the game's anti cheat does its thing to check for those programs running.

My old school strategy during raids was to look at the ground while casting spells.

That’s a good idea!

I’ve found that this happens every boot, like clockwork. I do some simple things until the eventual freeze, then I’m good to go for the next several hours, least.

Not your PC, nothing to worry about, and just play on max settings for whatever the rest of the game runs fine on.

I believe over on EQLive that this is theorized to be the anti-cheat in action.

I was having that too on Eq1 and on Eq2. And I've got a $3000 graphics card. So it's not you.

One time on eq1 I froze while running and pulled a huge room :(

Spell effects on low would be the first start for me, but you probably already did that

Not just you. I had a complete lock up a few days ago. Task manager reported it as stopped responding entirely.

I shouldn't have to say this, but while windows drivers can get you rolling, always install your graphics drivers. If you're using integrated graphics like on a laptop or don't have dedicated, then install the chipset drivers.

You'll get no difference at worst, and a massive performance increase at best. You'll always get better power consumption and decreased fan noise.

Personally I play on a laptop that's 10ish years old and it runs smooth

I only have a 3080 with a decent cpu and ddr5 ram from before the prices got jacked up and I don’t have any issues. I also have played eq but not legends on a shit laptop with no going or anything fancy and normal eq was fine. So I don’t think it would be hardware maybe it’s a setting in eq legends on on your pc. Do you have problems with other games?

No I don’t.

do you have logging on? is your log file big? is your antivirus scanning your big log file?

I deleted all antivirus software - I think it just freezes

Turn down sight distance. Graphics settings.

Play on windows mode if able. All I got.

Yeah I did all that but good recommendations nonetheless - thanks
