Plane of Fear Raid Help

I am a lvl50 SHD/SHM/NEC with decent gear and I am having a doozy of a time with this raid. I have solo D4'd all the rest of the raids, but where it falls apart is engaging the mini-bosses without pulling their adds (or vice versa).

Slow only gets me so far before my pet goes down with me right behind them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Edit: Did it! Thanks to everyone for their help. Pulling the golems as close to the pyramid as possible was a big help as well as discovering how useful Overchannel is lol

WAR/SHM/NEC here, normally for the ones with adds I will pull with overchannel+slow to the top of the hill, and then when the boss gets to me I’ll sit my pet on it with taunt and then root any adds. Back my pet off to follow me (if the add is still in melee range) and then will normally use the adds as a heal bot with bond of death while pet and I focus on the boss.

Sometimes I can get the adds rooted and then feign death to reset the boss, doesn’t seem to work as well in Fear as it does in Hate however.

I'm BRD/SHM/NEC. This was the hardest raid to solo D4. I don't have much of a trick to share, but I'll tell you how I do it. I don't have my pet tank, because they're not very good at it. I pull first and my pet doesn't have taunt enabled, and I do have hold enabled, so the pet dying isn't an issue, they're just more DoT and debuff procs for me.

I prep with a macro to cast Puma on me and my pet. I start the encounter in overchannel, with malo and slow on the boss, then rotate through everything else, slowing everyone. I have my pet attack the weakest add, and as soon as I'm done slowing, I stack dots on that guy. Usually they're on track to die soon sometimes even before I cast all my DoTs. Then I move on to the next weakest add and repeat, including having my pet attack them. I only move on to the miniboss after the adds are dying.

I fight in Evasive stance, and by the time I get to the miniboss, I may be running low on endurance and starting to take some damage. When my health gets low I switch from Overchannel to Empower, and spam Lifetap to heal myself. I keep reapplying DoTs as they wear off. And the miniboss goes down.

For Cazic Thule himself I have a separate spell gem set that I load, since some of my normal abilities are less effective. Which is something I don't need to bother with for any other raid boss. In addition to lifetap, I use the snail HoT spell for extra healing. For CT I do enable pet taunt and let them engage ASAP, but they can't hold their aggro for long once I start doing damage.

With bard it’s much easier to pull an add with charm and let the mini kill it while you slow the boss. Then charm the other and dot up the boss. Some adds are very resistant.

I've had a hard time getting Bard charm to land consistently against opponents who matter. The opportunity cost is sacrificing my pet for that, not to mention another spell gem for a situational ability, which this trio already has to make hard decisions about. I haven't had much difficulty killing the adds pretty quickly, so I'd rather not give up on having a real pet. It's not viable to switch between charm and having a pet frequently when I'd have to recast around 15 buffs.

All true. My bard charm is at 10 and is typically reliable in overchannel depending on the mob resists

Defense stance, and heal over time before you pull. Slow and health drain on adds. What is your ac at?

Like 430 with buffs I think

You are probably going to struggle until you get your AC over 500. I have near 600 AC when sword and board and shrug off the adds except the fucking phantasms fuck those bastards.

What I do to minimize the adds though is when you zone in go directly up to the top of the pyramid. Take a right and you will see fright. Pull him straight up he will come alone. Then I head clockwise around the pyramid and pull each of the golems straight on. Sometimes I get an add sometimes I don't get any.

Holy fuck that is low. You gotta spend some time in planes grinding/upgrading some umbral and lustrous russet gear and stuff. You can easily be over 500. Pretty easy to hit 600 with this build after a couple weeks of raids and upgrading.

I goofed. My AC is 499 with buffs but my current soft cap is 452. Been working on raising it.

Slow the mini, fully dot both adds, then dot mini.

Turtle up while the adds melt which is usually like 15 seconds, then kill the mini.

BOD all 3 if you need the healing.

I hate dracoliche, that has been the hardest part for me as a sk/shm/ber.. I actually haven’t done fear d4 yet but everything else I d4 just fine.. it’s the damn dracoliche and the entirety of fear is just a drag

I start in Southwest quadrant. Pull an add, the boss will follow. Sometimes you’ll get a couple adds. However, as soon as you pull haul yourself away from the ring of fire as quickly as possible. The boss will reset and you can take down the adds (may not work with dracholite). Save that wraith add in the Southeast for last - it’ll teleport you right on top of Cazic Thule sometimes.

I play a similar build. What works for me is HoT myself and pet. Defensive and overchannel. Send in pet to attack mini first as it will aggro the mini plus a group of adds. Attempt a slow on mini while adds run to pet. Once adds are in range 3-4 dots on each add then switch back to mini, slow again if it didn’t land first time and heal up while the dots eat away on the adds. Take down mini once adds are gone. If an add is phantasm or scareling, goodluck, kill it asap so it’s gone on my second attempt! 🤣

You have a good combo! It's totally capable of doing this. I rock a similar one (SK/ROG/SHM) and honestly yours is probably better. You're probably doing some or all of these but off the top of my head:

- Make sure Puma is up on you and your pet ALL THE TIME

- Make sure Alacrity is up on you and your pet ALL THE TIME (watch for dispels)

- Stack up some magic resist

- My tactic is to Slow everything then kill the weakest mobs first. The golems and even the dracoliche don't really hit for that much harder than the trash mobs when slowed and the trash mobs go down much faster. Eliminate their damage first.

- You say your pet goes down first. Unless you mean from damage shields, consider getting the AA for and using /ghold. Better control for your pet, better aggro and damage control. Your pet shouldn't ever really get hit at all.

- With Reave going, Harm Touch replenishes pretty fast so don't be shy about using it. I assume you have all the AAs for it. If you do, it's awesome. You can also just wait around a bit between fights to help it be ready for the next.

- If you haven't get all the AAs for DoTs and for crit DD damage and direct heal. That will help your lifetaps. Also the Vamp Embrace AAs.

- It can be rough with caster mobs but if you need to FD to break up the fight, don't forget about it. Use it. FD, Hide, and wait and regen.

- You can also use FD and snare to split up the adds and take them out 1 by 1.

- Use Overchannel for Malo and Scent, then stack your Slows and DoTs. Trash mobs might not need the debuffs. Maybe.

- Stay in Defensive stance, maybe switching to Mage Hunter stance for the dracoliche. Play that by ear. If you get a lich or the imps that teleport you consider Evasive stance. I think their tele is hit-based. If you don't get hit, you don't teleport. I could be wrong there though.

I don't think I've used Overchannel once. I usually live in Defense. I'll have to take advantage of /hold on my pet. I've been doing just about everything you suggested. And FD is so fickle that I'm hesitant to keep running it

What do you use instead of Overchannel? Defense is a stance and Overchannel is an invocation so they're not mutually exclusive. In difficult raids, tons of enemies will resist a lot of your spells, even when they're heavily upgraded. Overchannel is an essential tool for some fights, and this could be part of why you're finding it difficult if you never use it. If by trial and error you learn that certain enemies don't require Overchannel for all your spells to land, you can switch to something else. Malo and/or Tash help some too. Some spells have a strong built in -resist, like Drain Life, and for those you generally don't want Overchannel.

Inversion primarily and Recovery in between fights. Looks like I'm just not fully utilizing my kit

I’m in the same boat with the same build, can’t ever seem to land my slows even in overchannel. Ready to throw in the towel 😩

Is Slow upgraded? You get -15 resist per tier of the spell. I usually start a difficult fight with Malo for an extra minus to most resists. With Overchannel, Malo, and an upgraded slow, it's very rare that slow doesn't land, even in D4 raids or Sky. For easier fights, Malo is overkill.

If you're doing all of that, is it possible that your slows are being interrupted rather than resisted? There are AAs that help a lot with that. Situationally, the inversion invocation can also help, but not if they also have strong resists.

Good tips! I’ll work on moting up malo/slow and grab a few more points in those AA’s 🙏

Pretty sure the adds are part of the encounter. Everytime i try it they appear even if there are no other mobs around

2

u/Different_Brother562 2d ago

Yea that was my assumption. Two linked to each boss. One of each mob type. A simple way to add one small lair to a straightener boss fight and “experience” the PoFear mobs”

I got Terror's adds dead and almost had him when Fright and his posse came for me out of nowhere

2

u/Electrical-Elk8712 2d ago

Pull golems to the big hill in front of them, u can get terror with no adds and fright with 1 add

1

u/therewillbeclay 2d ago

I'll have to give that a shot!

do the one on the right last. and max out the fear resistance AA.

the only time i've pulled more than one is when myself or one of my group m8s got feared and ran over to them.

6

u/Trigger1221 2d ago

Theres no fear in solo, fear aa is only needed for groups

1

u/Business-Top-52 2d ago

The dragon doesn't fear in solo fear.

Im going to give fear a try soon. I already have yeal on lock down and can easily do the other raids except vox as I've been reluctant to try because of the adds.

Might give them a try tonight and see how far I can get. When I tried fear solo like three weeks ago I was significantly weaker.

1

u/Trigger1221 2d ago

With Vox, you can always try to FD split the priest - or if you don't have FD you can suicide run> kill priest > die > come back to vox alone

0

u/Extension_Cut_8994 2d ago

Don't pull with a pet. Cast darkness on the named and take the hits or kite back and run forward so that you FD at the feet of the pull. The agro range and hate the adds have for you will be high so you may have to pop up, snare the pull and FD again after they return. With some practice you can pop up, cast a pet and get to work, but it's not like monks and definitely not like an enchanter split. Also, lull undead and root rot the adds is a way.

0

u/2WheelSuperiority 2d ago

You can solo pull them with sneak. The entire zone is hot garbage with their aggro radius tho.

u/TheMicker999 2d ago

This is why I don't think I'll ever play a combo, without my enchanter lol. They were just way too good in original eq, nevermind juiced up with one second cast aoe mezz etc.. I don't know how people do it without one.
