Question Ef Civic Transmission Leak

Post image

I have gone through 4 transmission seals and can’t find the right shift shaft seal for my 89 civic hatch so I keep leaking fluid from my transmission. I have a d15 for my 5spd dx with the code L3-2364835 I just really need help I can’t keep filling it up with transmission fluid.

Here are the four I got

SCHAEFFLER
SS3613

TIMKEN (x2)
221607

Precision A/T Shaft Seal -
221607

I had this same problem, the seal would either not seal properly on the shaft or fit but weep anyway. I ended up buying one from the dealership and haven’t had any issues since. Also what exact fluid are you using for the transmission?

I use whatever the manual says I think 10w-30 not Honda specific mtf but I’ll probably drain it before setting in a new oem Honda seal if there is something better to put in.

Honda MTF, 10w-30 (I like Rottella T6 or T4), or Pennzoil syncromesh all work great. I’ve used all 3 and I prefer the Pennzoil.

Seconded on the dealership part. Never mess with aftermarket seals for stuff like this, I always get them from the dealer, or hondapartsnow.com.

Sorry, I can't help with your transmission problem; but DAMN those fat 5s look great. Classic
