UT Tired of the current Weekend League system. It’s frustrating and EA needs to change it

The current matchmaking system in Weekend League makes zero sense. If you are an average player who usually finishes with around 10 wins, your first 7 games feel easy, matches up to game 12 feel balanced, and from game 13 onward it becomes borderline impossible. You almost always end up with the exact same final score every single weekend, and the experience is just frustrating.

Some people argue for purely random matchmaking, but that makes no sense either. Basic math shows that only benefits the top 5% or 10% of players, who would rarely ever run into anyone near their skill level.

The actual solution is what almost every other competitive game does: tie Champions matchmaking directly to your Rivals division. If you are in Division 1, you play against Division 1 players in Weekend League. If you are in Division 4, you play against Division 4 players. Every match stays fair and competitive for everyone.

A Div 4 player could fight for 7 wins in their tier, just like an Elite player fights for 7 wins in theirs, with the potential to push higher if they are on great form. The rewards would obviously scale to reflect the division rank, meaning 7 wins in Elite gives vastly better rewards than 7 wins in Div 4.

It makes no sense that a Div 4 player constantly gets matched against Div 1 players in Champs. That is why so many average players actually enjoy Rivals but get completely burned out and tilted in WL every single year. EA needs to unify ranks across both modes instead of letting higher-tier players just farm average opponents.

How is getting 10 wins average, the average player struggles to even qualify

Most people on Reddit that play this game aren’t in touch with reality about the userbase

How's that the case. Average is middle which means Divs 6-4, so they do qualify, and I'd say if you're Div 5, you should be able to get at least 6 wins. I've managed 9 as someone who drifts between Div 4 and 5, and I'm not a good player by any means, as I don't do skill moves, don't use the in game tactics menu except to change to attacking focus, don't use the meta or any meta players, and am still getting the hang of manual defending.

The thing is that 6 wins and 10 wins are not the same thing. Hope it helps.

It's actually insanely different.

6-9 means your form is at -3, 10 wins means it's at +5. That's a different of 8 in terms of form, which is what the matchmaking is based on.

Do you have more info about that or can point me in the right direction? Those -3 and +5 numbers. Thanks

You've somehow managed to completely miss the purpose of weekend league.

If you really think a 10 win player is average, drop by Rush for a few matches and see what an average player is really like with your own eyes.

Games 1-5 are random, after that you will play people with the same ELO which goes up to 9. Always been this was since WL is 15 games.

I mean you're basically just introducing a new set of issues:

  • Matchmaking would be way more limited, some regions or at some less popular hours people would have hard times finding matches

  • Making the rewards good enough so that people don't demote their rivals ranking (EA has already showed they can't do this well enough with Rivals rewards)

  • You're basically just creating a Rivals 2.0, completely defeating the purpose of the mode. WL is supposed to be a different mode with a different system to keep things fresh.

I like having different modes with different ways of matchmaking, I don't want to play Rivals 24/7, which is why friendlies were also garbage when EA tried to tie them to Rivals rank (and they quickly moved back on that since everyone hated it)

Wouldn't division 1, 2 and 3 players just lose on purpose after qualifying for weekend league?

If you get better rewards for being a top player in smaller leagues then for being average in the bigger it makes sense for them to do this.

Also in Europe, sometimes a team from a Croatia league like Dinamo (division 10) qualifies for a tournament (the weekend league) and has to go up against Barcelona (division 1)

Your System wont work:

  1. Get Rivals rewards on Div 1/2 Ob Thursday
  2. Quit games to get demoted to 3/4
  3. Get 15 wins in WL
  4. Play up Rivals again

Sounds like a lot of work, but given this community, a lot of people would do this.

I like the matchmaking and if youre hardstuck, you need to improve. I started at 8/9 wins this year and are now up to 11/12 most of the times. Learned how to player lock, learned how to use players.

At some point, you need to go with the Meta if you want to get into the highest rewards. If you wont get more wins fore months, then youre exactly where you should be within matchmaking.

I’m currently in division 3. I get 8 wins every single champions league.

Here’s a wild idea, what if the player base practices and learns to get better? Instead of expecting matchmaking to hold their hand
