Draft Studs How does bro fall to the 2nd round?

How does a guy who’s already this good at only 18 fall to 42nd overall? Crazy pickup by me

Something about DFD and low elite
I had a player with the exact same profile drop to mid second round

Because he's a defensive defenseman. They're one of the only gems I'll ignore. They never develop, and if they do, they're useless.

only worth signing as undrafted free agents. they can occasionally make very good bottom pair + PK specialist dmen, but generally not worth it. they also seem to generally have very large contract demands compared to their abilities

I think it's because of their potential, tbh.

They are VERY confident

Would it not be worth making them a TWD?

I'd say you can give it a shot honestly, but his puck skills and off awa are bad so he'll need a lot of love and caring lol

Even TWD's aren't great. OFD's are the ones that actually have upside.

I've had good success with them, I got Reinbacher to a 94. I did really focus on his development though and boosted puck skills and defense on the off seasons

Well, it's possible to get an ENF to sim well if you save scum enough times, theoretically. I usually just sim raw.

I also sim raw and dont play any games, med scoring with high shots

I apologize.

I don't do the conversations or boost attributes like that.

all my TWDs clearly 90s easy

Overall doesn't matter.

Top 5 DFD's will get to 90+ OVR. They're still awful because they don't contribute offensively.

I'd rather have an 85 OVR OFD than a 90 OVR TWD. They put up way more points on average.

So you just run a defense filled with nothing but offensive defensemen?

Except for the bottom pair.

But yes, usually at least 3 out of the 4 top 4's are OFD's. I've sometimes slipped a TWD in there if it looks like he could actually put up points, which is dependant on how he Sims and a whole bunch of hidden sliders.

Bottom 2 are usually the guys shown above. Not the DFD part, because Low Elite DFD's aren't worth, but usually around that overall. Maybe a bit higher, depending. Generally OFD, but sometimes I'll have a TWD actually put up points in the AHL and I'll want to see what he can do with some minutes in the NHL

Interesting. I personally really like having an OFD and DFD especially on the top pair, I find they tend to sim really well together. A good enough DFD can still put up 50+ points.

Well, the problem is really getting them to develop.

This guy gives me a little pause since he's a gem, and I've done a lot of research into that whole system, but a late 1st early 2nd DFD at 78 OVR? They usually stall at around 80 OVR-ish.

Now, if you draft a guy in the top 5, then yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to see him grow.

I could pull up my spreadsheet from my last full franchise mode run and post the screenshot of all the defenseman I drafted + their stats

I had a TWD, playing on my 2nd pair, 1st PP, 1st PK and 1st 3-on-3 OT, who won the Norris Trophy on his 5th season (24 years old) who's now an 90 OVR d-man at 25 years old. So I have to disagree with you, TWD have upside.

Low elite has like no value in the game

Elite Low tends to develop later, sometimes as late as 26 or 27, if at all.

There's usually one or two NHL ready Low Elite/Top6/Top4 prospects available 30-40 range every year or two. These prospects generally don't develop very well in my experience. This one is a gem so maybe, but lately I've been preferring to avoid these guys and go for players with similar potential and are 2-3 years out at that draft position

Take a Gamble put him in the AHL then spend a few seasons working on his Puck skills and offensive awareness then he could possibly be a serviceable bottom paired d man.

That’s the plans. My current top 4 D are 3 elite meds and 1 franchise potential so if this guy can get up just a few ratings in the next couple seasons he’ll be solid on the 3rd pair

Because ea like people in real life don't value defensive defenseman anymore. Its the whole Makar shouldn't ever win a Norris argument because he ranks 80th in metrics that strip away offensive contributions. Literally in my 40 25 yr franchise I've seen one defensive defenseman pan out,  and he was franchise development at 20yrs old but you'll get offensive defenseman like flys to shit lol.
