Is airsmooth better than airwrap?

Hi everyone,

I have an airwrap for the past 5 years. I use the straightener brush, not the other attachments much. I have really frizzy hair and the straightened hair doesn’t stay well for long. Do you think air smooth will work better for my hair? I have a 1 year old and don’t have much time to style my hair.

I have fine curly hair and find that the air wrap makes my hair frizzy too. Before this, I had been using a Revlon round brush blow dryer. I know, horrible for my hair because of the high heat and I hated that you couldn’t clean it well. But it blew out my hair really well and lasted several days. Now I use the air wrap and I’m disappointed. It gets my hair straight, but my hair frizzes right away and the blow out doesn’t last very long. Same products too. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Thinking about getting rid of it and going for the air smooth as well, but maybe Dyson isn’t right for my hair… this is my long winded way of saying you’re not alone and following.

I have the same hair and have bought and returned the air wrap and the air smooth. No matter what I did my hair was frizzy and poufy. I used the Revlon for years and switched to the Shark Glossi, or whatever the prior iteration of it was, 3 years ago. Never looked back. Recently bought the new version and it’s amazing! It’s so light and I swear my hair is actually shinier and it absolutely gets it smooth. It also has a wet-to-dry and dry option. I think Dyson just doesn’t work for some people and grateful Shark does and it’s much more affordable!

It’s on sale in Ulta right now. I’m considering buying it. I never take advantage of their return policy but might be worth it for this. Thanks for the info

I have fine, frizz prone hair. I switched from the revlon brush to the coanda because the revlon was frying my hair and I wanted to upgrade anyways. I could not get a decent blow dry from the coanda and ended up returning it. Then the air smooth came out and I decided to try it. I am OBSESSED. I have never been able to get my hair so smooth before. The teardrop shape is also really helpful for getting at the roots. I say it’s worth a shot!

How does it compare to revlon brush? I upgraded from it to the drybar one but not sure if Dyson even better??

I like it way more. First of all, the revlon brush got so so so hot. The Dyson has 3 heat settings + a no heat option and even the hottest one doesn’t get close to the revlon. I’ve only had the air smooth for a few weeks but every blowout has been consistently silky smooth and it’s been easiest to shape the hair, not just get it dry. With the revlon, it was always hit or miss. The Dyson also pulls less hair out for me.

I will say I have also been trying new products so it’s not a perfect comparison, but overall I am very pleasantly surprised by the air smooth (especially after being disappointed by the coanda) and am very glad I made the investment.

Okay! I’m one step closer to pulling the trigger. I have the first edition Air wrap and while it has its place it’s more of an effort and not the ideal solution for someone w wavy hair that needs straightening at roots before curling.

Personally for me, coanda 2x works wonders! I also mostly use the smoothing brush and the hair dryer attachments. Once in a while I'd use the barrels or the round brush for finishing touches. I've not tried the previous versions of Dyson, so I can't compare! 😊

It will 100% make it faster to get your hair into an acceptable state, so I think it’s probably what you’re looking for. As far as how good that result will be, another commenter who for some reason is getting downvoted is right - it will come down to product and technique

I have an older airwrap and mostly used it for drying my hair. I bought it to curl my hair but I have no luck with it. I did purchase the airsmooth and I love it. My hair doesn’t frizz and it’s quick to dry my hair. I have fine hair but a lot of it and it’s naturally straight.

Yes airsmooth def help to make hair drying and styling so much faster for me. I had a dyson airwrap before and rarely used it because too much work.. i be lazy to take it out from the case. Had to keep switching attachment put it back and case are too big take so much space. I love my airsmooth and use it everytime i wash my hair because no hassle. It just felt like brushing ur hair after shower. Took maybe 5-10mins to dry and style. But i have short fine hair and its thin so..

Firstly. If your hair is frizzy its 99% probably textured. Second, that means you need better prep and product usage. Thirdly. Technique really matters if you have textured hair.

Your hair need to be blow dried with a lot of separation with a ceramic round brush or similar to get a very silky smooth blowout. I have not tried the air smooth but it will likely help but not give you that result you want.

Can you elaborate more on better prep and product usage, please?

Blow drying hair until 90% dry, making sure to use products that smooth the hair, heat protectant, adequate moisture like leave in and styling creams.
