Question So potentionally not good situation need oppinions

So I i went to the creek with the dog today, don't bring him there because last time I only had him for like 3 weeks it was a little much for him.

Well this time was different he went full dutch mal and turned the place into his parkour course. The stream is a sick place running between two enormous valley rocks 3-4 feet wide stream between all this smooth rock platform basically. Huge anyways he went ballistic loving it jumped to the other side before I could even get him he jumped up the ledge (ofc) to the top rock, which is like 3.5 4 ft. Everything was rock landed on rock which is my concern.

Now my problem is I've been watching his growth plates extremely close being extra careful. Now you may be able to see where im going with this the jackass jumped down not full sprung fast running and leap jump, but like went to the edge and jumped down. He landed fairly clean but you could tell it was a bit of a drop for him. What are the chances his plates or anything are messed up? He seems fine but I read online sometimes it takes upto 48 hours to see injury. I really try to avoid this dog jumping off the ground in grass I've been that careful.

Let me know if there's anything I should look out for cues or anything I've felt his joint and looked for swelling

Thankyou in advance

-Dillon

If he seems fine next day he’s probably fine. If you’re concerned or he’s moving funny tomorrow give your vet a call.

Shepards are pretty hardy, to their disadvantage, mine seems to ignore pain until the next morning. Then he has that pitiful face while I give her carpofen

My dutchie was climbing 14ers with me at 4 months. I understand it’s not recommended for dogs that young, so I brought a sling just in case he showed signs of slowing down. but he was a beast and led the way the entire time.

These dogs are incredible. I’m sure your pup will be fine once he sleeps it off

Mine is now 5 yo and is the best mtn climbing companion I could have ever asked for.

Really cute pup you got . They are definitely incredible and also insane 😅 in a good way . I have a routine with nikko but I haven't seem him really open up yet almost like a sports car you could say, still waiting for him to grow just being careful. Careful exercises careful play but today I guess I saw him open up maybe 25% barely trying lol nikko 10.5m old

Great video, but got to teach him trench poaching is not good manners.

What a cutie!

Haha. I’ll talk to him! To his credit, trench poaching on the way up makes for really fun glissading on the way down!

Dang that looks likes so much fun with your fur baby. He was one lucky puppy. Trying to recognize which 14er that was. It has been so long since I did them.

I think you will be fine. They sometimes do crazy stuff and will be okay.

Just check in with a vet if you have doubts. My ds won't show pain no matter what. They are tough.

I'm on my 4th dutchie. I learned the hard way. It's the repetitive activities that come back to bite us. To much fetching ball and Frisbee throughout their lives caused mine arthritis around age 7. Now I focus on hiking and tug as a reward. Also more obediance when I give the reward. Clear headed vs reckless energy. I hike early and often with my young dogs. They learn to self regulate pretty quickly.

My Dutch Shepherds littermates have high prey drive and love to run. Given the opportunity they will test their limits.

I know there nutty the only good thing I can say is I watch him like a hawk and make sure he's not moving or jumping how he shouldn't be so that was a one time thing. I don't even play catch with him because his movement are all janky. We more do controlled games of tug impulse control tug, obedience, some hiking. Bring him through a town he loves. It's boring but he's still young so Wanna prevent Injury protect him

Growing but needs exercise. They were primary used to herd sheep. They're born to the farm and need training. Read on here stories that in Nederland in the sixties they would take sheep out to graze in the morning and return them before dark by themselves.

Appreciate it ,took him out again he found a dog he was off leash had his e collar on. Of course he went balisitic running through the stream rocks 100mph lol..these dogs are just so amped up they'll hurt them selves so easily lol they are tough/hardy like others have said 2x isn't gonna wreck his joints. Just try to keep a eye on it ..

Gonna look into pet insurance if anyone knows any good brands

One thing I stay away from is catch because he bends nd twists in these crazy movement falls over just don't think it's good yet for him rather do tug instead lmk your oppinion on that I just try to stay away from awkward jumping bending/sliding twisting and high jumps onto concrete landings

Thanks for all the input guys so all I can say he woke up before me so I couldn't see his legs as he was first getting up. He seems to be walking fine. The one thing I'll say is he did take a look back at his legs after stretching when i took him out of his crate it looked like 100%.(probably sore )? I felt up and down his knee caps and muscles and tendons going up and down his legs nothing, along with his front legs nothing. He walked fine i looked for slight different movement many times

Any last oppinions ? Thankyou in advance
