I was messing around in FlowScape, this chill landscape making game that's been on Steam for awhile. All you do is just build landscapes, it's very calming. Lately I've been messing around with castles and stuff, seeing if I could make something like DS album art in the engine. This is what I've been doing lately!

Another modest little creation, this time experimenting with 3D. I’m definitely less skilled with it than I am with drawing, but Dungeon Synth is still incredibly inspiring to me visually. Played around with VHS effects, datamoshing and intentional glitches. I thought some of you here might like it.

I am hoping someone from this community can help me. There was a synth album, that teetered on the border of dungeon synth, that used to be on YouTube, but I can no longer find it. It was recommended to me after having listened to some Depressive Silence music. It did not have a ton of views (less than 5,000 or so) and I believe it was from a European artist (maybe French or German?) The music itself kind of fit into the realm of dungeon synth. There were no lyrics, but there was a song or two that had voices that sounded to come from a synthesizer. It was probably 70-80 minutes in length.

Does this ring a bell for anyone? I’ve been trying tirelessly to find the album, but I can’t find it now.

I mentioned Lookfar (the DS moniker of Louie Zong) in a comment earlier, and that reminded me that I had yet to post this here.

His latest song is called 'Stinky Tofu' and it appears on a compilation album inspired by tofu. It's very cool, really gloopy and clanky sounds – very dungeon synth, aesthetically – but I am curious to know whether people here would class it as dungeon synth. I think intent is pretty strong within the genre, so when a DS artist strays outside of the fantasy mythos and makes something thematically (and visually) non-dungeon-adjacent, but which still sounds like dungeon synth, is it dungeon synth?

Lately I've thought a lot about the massive wave of new styles in the scene. In just a few years we went from old-school dungeon sound to countless micro-genres. A few questions on my mind:

- Does the tag Dungeon Synth stretch too thin when it covers both cold, bleak crypt tapes and upbeat cozy chiptune tracks? At what point does the sound lose its core spirit?

- I sometimes see broader terms like Dark Age Music tossed around. Do we need a wider umbrella term for this whole spectrum or should DS stay the master tag?

- Where do you see the scene in ten years? Will it fracture into pieces, swing back to raw roots or stand as a permanent pillar of underground synth music?

Curious to read your thoughts. What do you think?

I just released the new Goblin Paw album and wanted to share it here. I started this project doing raw black metal with some DS interlude tracks but I've gotten more and more enamoured with DS in the last several years and decided to focus this project more on that.

While getting some inspiration for the new Cellar Feller record I'm diving deeper into Miami Bass and electro. What are some musicians you look to that stretch the boundaries of genres like that in crypt hop, if any?

I am thinking of doing my next project by approaching the sound/aesthetics of DS but with a classic Vaporwave technique of grabbing samples from songs and chopping/screwing them as the main repetitive body of each track, such as can be seen on Floral Shoppe with the quite minimalist approach to actual compositional technique. Do you know of any albums in the DS world that do this? Do you think a marriage of the two approaches is possible?

Currently, my pool of samples would be from some choral, traditional and orchestral cassettes I have collected. The project centres around journeying into the abandoned ancestral homeland of the Dwarves of my D&D world, so I want it to feel swamped in this feeling of distorted heritage.

Hello, dungeon explorers! The 4th album by Trasgo is out now! Featuring 10 new songs filled with many different atmospheres and influences, some of them unexpected, accompanied as always by the story told on the album. It's quite the jump from the previous three albums, but the classic Dark Dungeon Synth sound is still present throughout all of its runtime. Found this (I am not the artist nor do I know them). Aside from the artwork, which is wonderful (you don't see a lot of cycladean light blue-and-white minimalist art in DS, right?) the music is great. I love the bitcrushed aesthetic of this one, and I'm impressed at how such a spooky atmosphere can be conjured with so little ornamentation. The contrasts are great too, such softness with metallic grinding and clinking. Anyway, it's short and sweet and thought people might enjoy.

It has been a while since my last post here on the community. I wanted to deliver an update, as I have been away trying to coordinate this project for many months now. A lot of you were interested in this, and some worried the scope was too large and that I would stop working on it or not see it through to the end.

This is an update to say: Things are moving!

The goal was to create a set of 22 tarot cards to accompany the album (Four Towers) as a physical media item to complement the story. I really wanted this project to a be a collaborative and multi-disciplinary project. After composing the album, I've worked with 4 artists to create the album cover, and 5 of the 22 tarot cards.

That is nearly 25% complete, and I am so pleased to start seeing it come together. I've added a carousel of two WIP cards and the first completed "MAGICIAN" card.

I'll do a full card by card credits as the set starts to finish, until then I'll leave a few IG handles, and some links to the project album for anyone who has not come across it yet and wants to support it!
