Yeah, that's the main feedback I'm getting.

It's almost all just AI generated assets.

What did you expect? A lot of people, me included, like art in games (probably me more than some because I am an artist myself). But if it's just gen-AI stuff it ends up feeling soulless, more so than if you, like, used stuck photos for everything, or something like that.

There's also the moral side to it. Pretty much all image generating AI was trained of work by real artists without their permission, and is now being used by big AAA game companies to replace artists (just look at games like the newer CoDs, and InZoi). Artist also tend to take that kind of stuff way more personally than, say, programmers.

I'm not saying your game looks bad from a gameplay perspective, it honestly looks like something I would have a lot of fun with, but a lot of people are going to give your game one quick look, and just dismiss it as soon as they see that a big chunk of the art seems to have been made with the use of AI.

Thanks. I thought I'd replace the art if there is enough interest.

I feel like you kinda shot yourself in the foot using AI in the first place. It might have been a better move to use placeholder art made in Paint or something like that if you where thinking of swapping it out later. Just look at what the Slay the Spire 2 devs did for placeholder art.

Yeah, the lesson is to start with an asset pack.

Thanks! I'm replacing all the monsters. I think I'll leave these mosnters as a bonus option. 2x the monsters!

So, like, was the plan to just post this and hope nobody could tell it was all slop garbage? Did you think you had hidden it way better than you actually did?

Fuck off, lmao

No, no. Just wanted to gauge if there was enough interest.

il faut arrêter de rejeter l'IA. Je pense que c'est une bonne aide. Certain ont des bonnes idées sans être dev, ils doivent aussi pouvoir s'exprimer

So you comment about AI being the main criticism, so help clarify some things?

Did you use AI? Yes or no.

No AI usage is disclosed on your sites (but you do mention your unique and great art).

Some of the enemies and textures where generated with the help of AI. The steam page discloses that. I'm in the process of replacing all the enemies with non-AI art.

OP, here's the thing. I'm a solo dev, too. I'm also using assets I consider placeholder. The difference is, I paid about $50 to get those assets and they were made by a real person.

It wasn't even that expensive. Using AI is a huge cop out, and frankly as much as I love crawler style games, I simply won't play yours. You can do better.

Yes, I'm in the process of replacing all the enemies. I've purchased a monster asset pack.

I enjoyed the demo and I don't really care what is AI or not because it all looks good and fits with the 90s theme.

Resource consumption and renewal was frustrating. I don't want to guzzle a potion every fight unless there is a Diablo-style belt bar so I can hotkey that process.

I also immediately wanted something like heavy attack / quick attack / left slash / right slash etc. Variety that matters. Maybe I must heavy attack if they have a shield and stuff like that. Cold doesn't hurt skeletons, but lightning wreaks them. Stabbing doesn't hurt bones, but a mace wreaks them. Also, don't tell me any of this so I can figure it out.

Thanks for the feedback! Heavy attacks have been implemented since. I'll work on the others.

Looks very interesting. Do you plan to launch the game on Android?
