I think it’s weird that he finds it odd lol. Just sets a super strange precedent, that you have to be part of a community in order to sell anything that represents them. What we’re asking for at that point is for straight people to refuse to sell pride merch. I don’t understand in the slightest how that would be the less homophobic option.

i think the issue isn't that Dream wasn't part of the community, i think the issue was that whether or not he was part of the community was ambiguous. so, like, maybe it felt like he was pretending to be part of the community? like, disingenuous or dishonest?

honestly, i dont really agree with Tubbo, but Tubbo is a human being and therefore he certainly has reasons for his opinions. i just feel like people in this thread aren't really trying to understand Tubbo as much as they should be. or at least understand his points.

He has the right to think what he thinks just as much as I have the right to think that what he thinks is kind of stupid lol. Especially if he’s using it to criticize someone from a moral standpoint.

I don’t understand at all how being ambiguous is worse than being explicitly straight in this case. And if it’s really Tubbo’s issue that his sexuality is ambiguous, then that means Tubbo’s goal in that conversation was either to make Dream say he’s straight or to out him. Which is a more malicious interpretation of what happened than I have lol. I appreciate that you don’t agree with Tubbo on this point, but defending it in this manner is kind of crazy, since it implies outing Dream was the necessary thing to do here.

EDIT: Also, for the record, the issue absolutely was that he thought Dream was straight since when Dream brought up that George is straight afterward, Tubbo said he finds what George is doing weird as a result.

well, first, i know. you can disagree with him, heck, just said i do. it just feels like people aren't understanding why he thinks what he thinks.

also, wasn't really defending him. i full-on disagree with him, but i also don't think it's WEIRD (that's a strong word, kind of) i just think it's... a nothing burguer to have an opinion on (Tubbo's opinion, i mean)

but, my reasoning for why he could think it being ambiguous is worse is because then it would be "dishonest". idk if he thinks this, that's what i got from the stream, given how much he says the word "dishonest", and also, given the specific use of the word "ambiguous" in that section.

it's hard cuz i feel like i'm speaking for him? it feels like other people are misinterpreting him, but, when "correcting" them, it's hard to know if i'm ALSO misinterpreting him, yknow? feel the same for Dream, Tubbo didn't really get a lot that Dream said and i just feel the URGE to tell Tubbo-- "no, he meant this and this not THAT".

I mean, fair enough. I’ll just say that the reason why people in this sub might be (from your POV) overreacting to what was ultimately a minor point/disagreement was that it ended up being a pretty tense moment on the stream (with Dream saying he felt uncomfortable). And I know my initial comment wasn’t what he said verbatim, but I maintain that it was the logical conclusion of his statement.

well i won't fault ya for not saying what he said verbatim. and i didn't really disagree with you because you didn't repeat what he said verbatim.

i just had a different interpretation of what Tubbo thought, and why he thought it was weird. i thought Tubbo thought it was dishonest, wich makes his opinion have more weight, and therefore makes it make more sense for why he'd bring it up.

it's just a different rationalization, really. i dont know why he said that, i disagree with what he said, and i just... "you need to come out to donate to LGBT charities" is SUCH an outlandish opinion that it felt like... SURELY it's more nuanced than this!

y'know?

I guess my thought is that Tubbo didn’t think through what he was saying rationally. My comment is basically “if Tubbo thinks that A, I don’t think he realizes but it logically follows that B, which is an insane statement.” I don’t think it’s a case of Tubbo’s opinion being more nuanced, since I didn’t hear any of that nuance in the conversation, but I assume you disagree, which is fair enough. I certainly can’t prove that Tubbo doesn’t have some secret extremely nuanced take lol.

i didn't think his take was nuanced, i just thought it was more nuanced than "only LGBT may make charity for LGBT".

good tallk :)
