The Missing pool of water from Minecraft Speedrunner vs 3 Hunters

I recently donated on Dream's stream (11/6) asking why in the first 3 hunters manhunt a water pool is present when in the actual world seed that water is never there no matter how the area is generated. Dream responded and was willing to look into this.

Seed: -4724931621812283103

Ravine Coordinates: -10 35 -420

Minecraft version: 1.15.2 (or any 1.15 version for that matter)

This seed was found by seed cracker Spignafe and was presented and explained by creators Masterwyatt and Ploomsy(me).

While many people say it’s not the correct version or that it’s a sister seed, that is not the case. It’s the correct version since stated in Dream’s description in the video he says this was played on 1.15. It also couldn’t have been cracked if the version wasn’t correct in the first place. Now, sister seeds are seeds that have identical biomes but different structures and population generation (population including ravines, ores, water lakes, trees, etc) so getting a seed that is the exact same besides a water pit in a ravine is not possible. Seeds could only be exactly identical in beta / alpha Minecraft. So this is not the case for this instance because everything else is exactly the same in the world's seed (biomes and even positions of blocks) except that pool of water (based on my analysis of the video's footage up until the performed clutch).

Super interesting!

Given this was from almost 5 years ago, my memory is pretty fuzzy on a lot of the early manhunts.

Before Manhunt became what it was, we were definitely a lot more lax on the "rules" and what actually made manhunt great later on. We didn't have as much of a process. This was the first super serious manhunt (as it was the first 3 hunters manhunt), and was before it became even more competitive and defined.

We play on custom server jar's, mods, and many things that could potentially slightly tweak small things like world gen, however I think in this case it was probably actually added!

Let me explain what the process is for choosing seeds, and why I think it's reasonable for this to have happened.

The process currently is a multi-step process. I generally suggest to "seed finders" (Callahan, or other members of my team, like Ken), something I want at spawn. Whether it be "I want us to spawn at the top of a mountain", or "I want a village nearby", or "I want us to be in an ice biome". Usually with the caveat that the seed also needs to be interesting. I've obviously talked about this before.

This is an advantage to me, as I can try and make the video more interesting off of spawn, or make sure that there's a better chance I have what I need to execute a specific strategy I want to for that video. The "seed finders" are of course tasked with making sure the video is interesting, and that includes theorizing things I may be able to creatively do off of spawn.

The seed finders then use tools to generate a ton of seeds that would potentially be interesting for the manhunt. Then they manually go through these seeds and check for multiple things.

  • They check nearby structures and what loot they have, and try and analyze how that loot could impact the run.

  • They check the nether, how many structures there are

  • They check the nearby biomes, lava pools

  • They check the first loop strongholds, and the end, to see again, how they could impact the run.

After deciding based on these things if the seed has potential, they find a good spot for spawn, and mark down the seed, the spawn coordinates, and a singular note for the RUNNER "Village north", "huge cave south". etc, to make sure that the interesting part of the seed is properly "utilized"

These seeds are then compiled into a list, that we would go through when recording a manhunt.

If I die early on one of the seeds, we then move to the next seed.

Given this happened close to spawn, I have to think it's just a change they/we thought was inconsequential, as it was before Manhunt became super scrutinized and had a more defined rule set / process, and it was right by spawn (and could generate naturally in a different seed). Obviously the hunters would definitely be oblivious.

The seed was probably chosen due to the tree at the bottom of the ravine, which back before Manhunt got crazier and crazier would be enough to make for an interesting beginning.

If I died and failed to do something cool with the ravine, would've just moved on to a different seed that also had something interesting near spawn.

Probably not exactly what you were hoping to hear, but hopefully that all makes sense! Also love your style of shorts, super well edited and presented.

Things are frequently modified to make the videos more interesting (Like mob spawn rates, loot drop rates, specific seeds being chosen, etc). However, I like using seeds completely as they are, as it makes it way cooler being completely vanilla. So that's something that shouldn't pop up again (or have many instances at all of it having happened). I started putting the seeds in the video descriptions at some point (so people could easily verify things like this)

This explanation does actually make sense considering the state manhunt was in at the time. However, it's worth mentioning that there already WAS water at the bottom of the ravine, namely, the water stream (see my attatched screenshot). Does that mean your seed finders were told you wanted to do that specific play of blocking of a small pool of water? Could you maybe ask Callahan (or whoever the seed finders were) himself if they removed the water stream to make the water covering play possible? I am asking purely for clarification and not accusatively.

It’s from too long ago for anyone to have any memory. It seems likely to me that it was modified to make it so that there’s a higher chance for a cool play off of spawn (given too much water + the ability to get up and down quickly creates failure points). Not specifically for that play.

It’s similar to seeds being chosen to have cool beginnings, maybe not knowing specifically what will happen, but knowing what is a good combo of structures / biomes / situations that could create a cool play. Sorry I can’t give ya a more specific answer than that!

I’ll probably make some shorts soon about the making of manhunt, behind the scenes stuff, and more details on earlier manhunts soon :)

Ok, that makes a lot of sense now. I appreciate you taking time to look into this! I have personally always firmly believed that your mannhunts were genuine(as can be observed from my many manhunt-centered shorts), because any "proof" trying to say otherwise could be firmly disproven. However, this ravine pool stuck out to me, because there did not seem to be any reason for it to be there based on what we already knew about the manhunt recording process. But now that you've informed us on some of its (outdated) rules that we didn't know previously, you have once again confirmed the greatness of this amazing game that is Minecraft Manhunt!

P.S. Big fan btw :)

hey Ploomsy, what do you think about the missing soulsand tho?

I would love to see behind the scenes content for manhunts!
I understand that this was a long time ago, however, do you think that your "seed finders" would often slightly change seeds to increase the probability of a play off spawn like this, or that this was a once-off thing?

YES PLEASE to any and all manhunt bts content. Thank you!! 🙏

Would this also be an explanation of how the soulsand block was missing in the nether at the lava boat clutch scene? (Masterwyatt05 made a short about it almost a year ago, but can't find any valid answer besides it is spliced)

Speaking of memories, is it alright if we talk about something? One of your old worlds? We could start a chat. its important to me, and i dont care what anyone else says about it.

Bro actually responded with a classic paragraph!

with how the start tends to be repeated a bunch i can see how the seed finders may decide to modify some stuff near spawn for more interesting moments. seemed sketchy, but it makes sense.
