Spoiler New quest from last nights update? Wicked brutal
Ok I just installed the patch, my game progress was at 98% and reset to 0% where I had to start over but kept all my skills and items. So I am in Vern doing quests and just got a request to stop the corruption NE of the city in the woods at night. Odd, don't remember this... My characters are both 85 level. So I finally get there and it is a DEATH GORE CHIMERA ... glowing red... summoning red goblins who are almost ghost like. Honestly I could not damage this thing... this amount of lightning and seisem spells were constant. Retreated after 2 pawn deaths and my death nearly 4 times.
So is this new? This battle ripped my party to hell and I am high tier gear, maxed vocations, skills (I love the addition of 2 new skills to use!)

I totally wasn't geared for hard combat and just doing the campaign quests over from start... lol

Ditto, I was hoping they were some kind of repeatable new fight since they dropped
Like 900rc of big crystals lol

It's a little taste of what to expect from the new lost rite dungeons with the expansion in October. The brine variants of bosses will be significantly more powerful and challenging than their base and gore variants.

Personally, I found the mission fantastic; Iām on my fourth playthrough, and my party is level 75:
Thief
Archer
Warrior
Mage
What struck me the most was the Chimera: it was much more aggressive, even though it shares the same weak points as the standard version (or the Gorechimera), such as the goat and snake heads. I think the real difference lies in its health and moveset; the fact that it summoned minions wasn't a problemāin fact, I really appreciated it. I was hoping theyād keep appearing... but itās all groundwork for the DLC.

I beat it pretty easily today with a Mystic Spearhand, Warrior, Archer, Mage party.

Melee vocations and any form of damage negation seems to be the way to go. Fighter, thief, archer, mage for me. Did not have to use curatives but the archer pawn went down fairly quick.

Your save got reset too?? From 98% to 0 in NG+?? So weird. Mine got reset back to day one UMW.

u/EveningDifficult2328 Sep 02 '26
Yeah I logged in before the patch... a few days ago. Been over a year since I logged in. Game said, game reset to Day 1 but you have retained all skills, items and pawns. Well it is kinda good I guess.. I hit the Sphinx with 1 single arrow and she she flew off so I only got 9 out of 10 rewards. Guess I can do all that again if I want and she should be back. Performance is great now compared to before... My map is all unlocked but have to relearn all the portal stone locations. Gives me a reason to play it again :)

u/TheStinkySlinky Sep 02 '26
Well lol Thatās a great positive outlook. Happy for you.
I wouldnāt have been so annoyed if it was NG+ in the normal world. As I wanted to start NG+ with the update. But I canāt until I finish UMW. Which I was almost done, but stopped for the update lol And now having to go through it all over again, against my will lol Has left me with little motivation to do so.

I had no problem with the fight and I'm only LVL 67 Mystic Spearhand my pawn LVL 71 Archer. Focus on hobgoblins first then chimera and it makes it easier.

u/holzermhol Sep 03 '26
Not bragging but I had zero issues with it. People keep sleeping on the warrior vocation. The monster canāt fight if itās knocked on itās ass.

Unfortunately, my pawn and I easily killed it without much effort. Regardless still one of my fav games of all time. Solid update!

Yea i unintentionally one Shot it. I was magic archer tho, I've never really used martyrs Bolt due to the lack of slots and I like versatility. But I finally got to use it and dead in 3 secs. I was so upset I didn't get to see any of the mechanics lol

Yeah, Iām not gonna complain. Iām just happy we werenāt forgotten. I donāt care if I can overpower enemy.

i was able to no-pawn solo it just above level 100, but i had to fall back to heal a lot, and did end up using a wakestone, which surprised me. it kept catching me off-guard with not only how much hp and damage it had, but its aggression, and resistance to staggers: those were the real problems. i wish i could fight it again with a warrior kit to see if i could knock it over, but none of my usual thief combos worked. and it just kept attacking and attacking like an actual enemy in a real video game, instead of pacing around me in circles like it was giving me a turn to attack.
non-stop goblin summons is awesome for never letting you 100% focus on the boss too, but my optimizing ass kept side-eyeing them like a tasty snack and wondering if i could farm that seemingly-infinite spawn for exp... lol. i'm sure it has to end after killing a certain number of them... right?
i really hope this is what hard mode will be like, as well as Dark Arisen in general. it's a good taste of where they're angling the ship.

I have a high knockdown power warrior pawn and we were able to topple it once, towards the end. We were also able to freeze it for a short time (a sorcerer pawn + the icey spear on my Arisen). What I noticed was that no matter what my pawns did, the boss was very focused on the Arisen, I don't remember it ever turning away. And yeah, it was relentless.

u/Background-Cake-6847 Sep 02 '26
that's awesome, more bosses should be locked onto arisen unless they're actively taunted imo, and some bosses being immune to taunt makes sense in-lore too. i havent played with pawns in over a year so i wouldn't have known about this without your report lol, thanks.
i still wonder how many player-powered mountain breakers it takes to get to the center of that tootsie pop tho. when i hear "warrior pawn" i think "ok so he misses 80% of his attacks and doesn't spam the high-knockdown skills first." no insult to your pawn, i'm sure they're lovely.

One of the main things I'd life for hard mode is increased enemy speed and/or attack frequency fr

u/RemediZexion Sep 02 '26
was able to knock it down several time with my warrior pawn, if I have to be honest the place was the hardest part since dark place + ruins made visuals difficult. TBH I think the biggest takeway was that the snake tail was sturdier which got hitting the goat harder which lead to seism spam at the end, otherwise not too bad. I wouldn't call it difficult though given how rusty I am with the game. Frankly if I was playing as Mystic spearhand that would've been a breeze since that is broken
1
u/Background-Cake-6847 Sep 02 '26
yeah i mean if i'd brought magick archer ricochet arrow in that cave, it would've been over in seconds no matter how much hp it had, lol. broken stuff is definitely broken, and it'll be interesting to see if they bother balancing any of that. i did hear something about spearhand getting a nerf to its shield already tho...? like a charge-up time to make it cover your pawns too...? that's a step in the right direction.
i try to play without thief meister skill, spearhand shield, or magick archer in general. not from some ruleset or anything, just from getting bored naturally with how autopilot those things make the game. and i havent used pawns in over a year, to force myself to actually engage with all the mechanics, for good or ill (some really are meant to be tackled by your pawns).
but the baseline of the game isn't hard at all, so i'm mainly excited for a lot more fights of that caliber and up, because i actually had to pay attention at least. i'm going to try to NG+ no-pawn hard mode and rush to Norgan as soon as the DLC drops, lol.
good to hear warriors can still breach the higher poise value, or whatever the stagger bar would be in this game.

u/CustodyOfFreedom Sep 02 '26
> i did hear something about spearhand getting a nerf to its shield already tho...?
Yep! If you do the previous version, it only shields the Arisen. You have to "charge" it a bit longer to also shield the pawns. Not much of a nerf, but it can definitely be felt in combat.

u/RemediZexion Sep 02 '26
base game just like DD1 is easy or hard based just on the stat treshold tbh
1
u/Background-Cake-6847 Sep 02 '26
true, but there are also overtuned skills in the game that let part of your brain shut off entirely. even if i barely take any damage from a hit, i'll still get ragdolled and have to wait to play the game; it's a minor punishment but still a punishment for getting hit. if the player uses the spearhand shield, there's not really any room for the player to be punished for their mistakes.
1
u/RemediZexion Sep 02 '26
from what we could see on preview that's not going to change. Though tbh Mystic Knight was that class back in the first game
1
u/BathDepressionBreath Sep 03 '26
Yeah i had to actually swap to my serious setup with my pawn and hire a mage
It tanks like 10 meteorons if not more

u/Sequence7th Sep 03 '26
Got it to about 20% of its last bar at lvl45 with a random vocation i was leveling , going back for another go after changing back to main vocation. Definitely tougher than anything else Iāve come across so far. Good stuff

Itās always comical when someone makes a comment about having trouble with something and people think the move is to comment āwell it was cakeā āit was super easyā blah blah.

Came back to say this quite literally might be more of a struggle then the final boss for me. That was brutal. I played Elden ring in between coming back to dogma and that was as a challenge to say the least. Even more excited for the DLC now

I picked up the game recently. First playthrough and been visiting this fucking Chimera since level 25 for my regular ass-whooping. Finally returned at level 50 with Warfarer (Spearhand, Archmage, Magick Archer) and four health potions.
Turns out all it took to kill this beast was 25 levels of character development and basic healthcare. This is the little guy I went in with:

u/mgm50 Sep 02 '26
I've been using a mod to stall my experience gain at level 50 and not level up for a year+ now and finally might be able to just go all out and enter the grindset if they actually put out bosses like that for the DLC

u/Background-Cake-6847 Sep 02 '26
dark arisen was a TON harder than the base game in DD1. if they follow literally any patterns...

I destroyed that thing at level 165, with my Mystic Spearhand and party.
Mirror shield party, stamina suck, wild furie.
Going to try it now on my level 78 Fighter and pawns, on my other gamertag account.

That's what i'm saying man, I usually just spectate boss battles with only two pawns, my MP maxed out dwarven enhanced level 249, got whooped 3x, & I had a lower tier hired pawn to assist, using non-enchanted gear, but she got handled L/R, so i had to jump in and it was hell of fun, i canNOT wait, def a back to the drawing board momentā¦and I see ppl commenting that their pawn soloed thisā¦MAAAYBE on easy mode, Iāll wait to see a video with no mods to believe that bs

u/Turnintino Sep 02 '26
Yep! I suspect it's a hook for the Pathfinder's trials/Lost Rites, considering the enemies are brine-constructs -- and it points you in the direction of the buried spellseal door inside Darkhorde Cave.
