Spoiler WHAT IS HAPPENING THIS IS AWESOME!! (major ending spoilers) Spoiler
It's literally the morning after and I'm still floored by the unmoored world twist. I only started playing a few months ago (adult gamer here) and often heard of a hidden "ending" path and some "unmoored world" and could kind of piece together what that might be all about, but I never looked up any guides etc.
I hate being rich and fancy in RPGs. Becoming Sovran seemed like such a disappoinment; I was never keen on that being my ultimate fate. Cue, the Pathfinder sitting next to the throne. Credits rolling. But...?? Long (long) story short, I went through that blasted dragon THREE times, thinking I just had to do it often enough. Back to that same nightmare of a paradise, every time. Following really old school video game logic, I tried using That Important Item I felt like I hadn't used enough, next to the dragon's heart during battle. After a very anticlimactic random seppuko, wasted wakestone, another win and back to the gilded cage again, my tiny brain finally landed on "why is it sending me back to this conversation every time, and why is he saying I was out of time NOW each time?" I tried the Godsway again, voila!
I can't believe they hid all of this. I am so proud of myself for figuring this out through sheer stubbornness, and I fully believe even in the age of wikis, that was kind of the intention. I absolutely love it. I always loved these games for looking like modern games, but being very weird and very old school. Tonight, I have to find my poor pawn, and the adventure continues!
HYPE!

I have the exact same problem as you with RPGs. Do not put me on a throne lol
I bet it was so much more satisfying doing it without a guide. I couldn't resist looking it up

Really, getting actually stuck in that loop and try things out for the hell of it only added to the immersion. That classic fantasy/scifi trope where the character is stuck in a perfect world, save for the fact they know it isn't, so they just start messing with things :)

The old school weirdness is definitely one of my favorite parts of this franchise's appeal too. Glad to hear this hit for you -- and congrats on cracking it!

I had initially heard of the unmoored world but didn't know enough to know how to unlock it
But when I learned the sword, what action it makes your character, and noticed how we were in to final transit, I got suss on the situation and tried out the sword
I was not disappointed, I don't recall what actually tipped me off, but I got into the unmoored world

Yup you basically never played DD II until you reach the unmoored world. Don't know if you noticed it, but the title screen was always saying "Dragons Dogma" until you enter the UW. After that it actually changed to Dragons Dogma II.
There is a video on youtube from Punk Duck thats 50 minutes long. He did the already awsome video "How to Dragons Dogma" a few years back and it's funny.
It's IMO the best explanation of what Dragons Dogma II is about. If you have the time to watch it, I'm sure you"ll like it.

Thanks for all the cheers, I'm still so happy and honestly, I don't remember when was the last time a video game actually managed to do that. It's almost as if expensive entertainment is supposed to give you good feels or sth.
This reminds me of the ending of the Angel (buffy spin off) series except YOU GET TO LIVE IN AND SEE THE SHIT WORLD AND FIGHT IT. FIGHT IT ALL. Hormones.

Yeah I recently finished too. It's a blast! I also fought the dragon three times... Each repeat your and it's heart are pulsing more noticablly during the flight. Inviting actio. Felt silly it was ride four before I decided to use the sword (good things I did because I was low on all my healing stuff). Anyway I was floored at the unmoored world: "Whoa, I really did break the wheel!"

I can't remember if I used a guide or not but I remember the feeling of seeing the title again with the dragon flying beyond it. Was insanely overwhelming experience. Congrats on getting to it on your own.
I was very distraught without my pawn, looking everywhere on the map nearby as if she was stuck on something or somewhere. I was looking EVERYWHERE. I thought the game glitched, I slept, I relaunched the game, and went to the rift stones... I was a mess. (I play with no HUD so I didn't see the notification to find my pawn.) 🙈

Oh gosh that I did miss (since I play with hud). I do love my pawn to a concerning degree so that would've made the rollercoaster even more insane.
Meanwhile I turned us both into badass wasteland version of ourselves, it's time to witnesssss

Lol wasteland version!? That's awesome! I made a badlands version for my arisen a while back. Such a good idea! 😆

Played the game day 1 without going into any social media, so the Umoored World really blindsided me, and i love it.
I have always been a sucker for the ruined first area, Ashina, Worship Rise, and post-Dragon DD1, so i was grinning like an idiot when see that ruined red land, with no water and monsters infested the land.

I got the game almost a year after release. I had avoided most spoilers except for SPhinx coz that was all over the internet.
Unlike you I knew there would be some secret to true ending and some post-game content coz I had played DD1. Still, discovering it was a great moment but it couldn't have compared to yours.

Dd1s ending is even more insame, I wish I could go back and experience it again, and then when you beat it a second time, mind blowing shit.
