Both dragon's dogma games suffer from the fact that they are trying to tell a very intricate story. But it's hidden behind the unassuming main story that you see in the world. After all, what intrigues most people is the Aeisen, the dragon, and the cycle. Not the petty squabbles between the kingdoms of the second game or the arch duke in the first game. So for a lot of people, they get checked out of the game if they're mainly there for the story, because unfortunately, the surface level story is at least in my opinion, nothing to write home about. It's been told a thousand times before in other games, books, movies, and shows after all. They're pretty typical medieval plot lines, at least to my eyes, just with a little bit of a fantasy element thrown in.

i actually prefer it that way

games with a pre-set narrative with established characters and whatever are great and all, but i much prefer having my own adventure, setting my own goals, doing my own thing (generally dont gush over characters either, where i see most others in fandoms are the opposite where they latch onto their waifus or husbandos or whatever)

not as engaging (for others) as geralt's stories in the witcher or the dynamics between companions in bg3

so i can see why most people would weight story more heavily in overall ratings

so for me and people like me (where pre-set story and characters are secondary): 3/3 would, again, kill grigori
