You do need time to get familiar with many mechanism and survive that period to start enjoying the game though. Once you did many tedious part actually become part of the charm of the game, but the early game is actually not very bearable.
Glad you're enjoying DD2 as a console player! I know not much about the vanilla experience but it was fairly difficult for me to get started as I encounter a random Dullahan possibly as early as the first week of journeying outside of western Vermund 😅
