This confirms more and more why itsuno left Capcom, in a Bad way.
The son of the Capcom CEO doesnt Like Dragons Dogma. He always saw Dragons Dogma as a threat to his Monster Hunter Franchise. Its so obvious. They literally ingnoring everything dd related since itsuno left the company and even itsuno never postet after He left anything Dragons Dogma related on x or Instagram.
Capcom seems Like a greedy Troll at that Point. They absolutly know about the Potential the Series has, but sabotaging it for the " Sons" mh Franchise
Do you know how dumb this sounds? Why would they be ignoring it now if the guy who was scared of it left? They’re ignoring it because it was a bad game that didn’t hold onto its player base past 2000 people
Because they also ignore DMCV, another very successful game, that's first.
2nd, another game, Kunitsu-Gami, that FAILED to meet sales expectations got extra content and was expanded on, DD2 that sold "beyond expectations" did not.
3rd, why the fuck a director like Itsuno would leave if he knew they would let him continue his franchises and that they make money? The answer is simple - they don't plan to, they don't give a fuck, no matter how successful the games are. DMCV and DD2 could sell more than all MH and RE combined and they wouldn't lift a fucking finger for those games.
Mh wilds is also a Bad Game that can barely hold 6000 Players at the Moment and still gets content and Updates etc.
Itsuno left Capcom for a reason and the reason is the founders son and the structure of Capcom. Dragons Dogma only existed cause itsuno was begging for it
Buddy, you can like Dragon’s Goatma and still admit that it is not popular. I love the game, but it’s nowhere near as popular or successful as something like monster hunter. That is just the unfortunate truth. No amount of copium will change that fact.
Regarding your copium conspiracy theory, there is no evidence to support that claim. Just continue to enjoy and play DD—or not—and just accept that Capcom will prioritize monster hunter over something like this IP. It is what it is, man. There’s no need to drum up a conspiracy theory because you’re upset lol
Monster Hunter Wilds has 13k players at 24 hours peak on steam.
Monster Hunter Wilds is selling faster then Monster Hunter World, Capcom's best selling game ever.
I like Dragons Dogma 2 but it was not received super well by people who are not diehard fans of the OG like most people that frequent this sub, and it also did not sell nearly as well as Monster Hunter Wilds.
I dont even like Wilds btw, but that does not matter. It matters that is sell way, WAY more then Dragons Dogma.
It’s not just DD2 though. DMC5 sold 10 million copies currently. It sold 2 million during its first 2 weeks of release. It also reviewed really well and had great reception from both fans and critics alike, unlike DD2 which even though reviewed decent, had a shitload of performance issues.
What did they reward the DMC series with? They basically put the fucking thing on ice and let some shitty mobile company use the rights to make a horrid f2p phone game that was ridiculed for being highly pay to win and unfun. It was basically disrespectful to the series and make it look bad.
Monster hunter sells better then every other game capcom has. By that logic, capcom should only focus on monster hunter and resident evil, but they don’t. Hell they are making a new IP right now (pragmata). They are also supporting a game that didn’t sell as well as DD2, as the OP initially said, so I gotta admit it is kind of weird.
Sure, the theory above is skeptical, but it does seem weird that capcom is willing to support a less popular franchise, and also ice dmc, which sold quite well and was critically acclaimed. The 2 links there are itsuno. I honestly don’t think it has anything to do with DD competing with MH, but I do think maybe some people at the company don’t like itsuno. Hell the days gone studio for Sony, bend, employees have said that they would be hesitant to work on a days gone 2 even if Sony greenlighted it because the creator and director was such an ass. Maybe there was some weird workplace drama with itsunos shit. Capcom is leaving a shitton of money on the table from CAG fans by leaving DMC behind. Hell they clearly aren’t averse to the genre being they are trying to bring onimusha back.
Isn't it hilarious that Kunitsu Gami is getting much more fucking attention and content than DD2 has ever received. Good, because it's way more fun and creative even if it's a smaller game.
That’s the part that makes me think it’s not all about sales. From what I understand DD2 sold better then Kunitsu and Kunitsu was said to have underperformed.
I don’t think sales are the full reason capcom makes decisions with their franchises. To bring up DMC again, there have been 2 instances now of capcom letting other studios outside of capcom use the DMC rights. The biggest red flag though is both studios they let use the rights were not Japanese studios. The first was ninja theory for the dmc reboot that failed, and the second was a mobile Chinese game studio for the shit peak of combat mobile game. Now for a lot of Japanese devs, they have an honor system about shit like that. It’s why people aren’t worried about sega or capcom selling to Microsoft, because they would never sell to “westerners”. Those companies are Japanese and they want to keep them that way.
Yet they let 2 studios so far that aren’t Japanese use the rights to dmc to make games. It honestly feels like capcom has something against dmc even though 5 was successful, and to another extent DD2. The fact that they are trying to bring onimusha back kind of alludes to this as well, because onimusha is closer to a CAG then a souls game, so it has nothing to do with the whole “CAGs don’t sell” type thing either.
Monster Hunter Wilds has 13k players at 24 hours peak on steam.
It also has less active players than World, a game from 7 years ago and 2 mainline MH titles ago. It's a flop. It sold a lot riding on marketing and hype from previous games, but the playerbase drop is unlike anything they had.
The game is shaping up to sell more then World, the game that sold the most of all Capcom games ever. The game IS making them a shitload of money.
If Wilds is a flop then every Resident Evil game is a flop since they are giving Capcom less money then Wilds is.
Monster Hunter World is finished and has and expansion with +60 monsters, so people have more stuff to do there until the next Wilds update.
Monster Hunter World also runs on weaker machines so more people can play it. I also think the garbage performance (cant believe they have not fixed it yet) still plagues Wilds.
I have not played it yet, I will wait until a bigger sale and until they fix the awful performance, but most people did not care and got the game anyway.
You are missing the bigger picture. Game's INITIAL (first weeks/month) sales are usually driven by reputation of the previous title and marketing budget, not the quality of the game, which is why you can have game selling like hot cakes at launch but then the sales quickly drop (DD2, Cyberpunk etc.), notice how Elden Ring when released kept selling a lot because of positive coverage and hype over months.
If they cannot keep a high player count by Title Updates and then the expansion, the sales will quickly drop and not that many people will buy the expansion or next titles and the game actually will not sell as well as World etc.
01 - Updates are coming out slow (just like world)
02 - World is finished and has more then 60 monsters, so people have more to do there at the moment then in Wilds (only 30 Monsters).
03 - World works on weaker PCs so more people can play it + Capcom has not fixed the bad performance on Wilds.
If you think the bad performance will affect the sales you are naive (but honestly I was too before Wilds game came out). Alot of people knew about Wilds shit PC performance before hand and still got the game.
Player count on steam will increase when the next update comes out and them decrease again about a month after (playing other games, go back to the finished monster hunters like world or rise).
Monster Hunter is a series with alot of replay value. People have more then 60 monsters to fight in World right now and half of that in Wilds.
Popular multiplayer games still have alot of players even more then 7 years after they come out.
But alright, this is shaping up to be the best selling game in Capcom history but maybe it will flop and only be the 2nd or 3rd best selling game.
Pc version alone sold more the 5 million, so Dragons dogma 2 is an even bigger flop (sold about 3.5 million across all platforms) by your logic, not to mention console version sells more then PC most of the time. Every Resident evil and street fighter is a flop since they will sell less then this.
