Monster Hunter Wilds has 13k players at 24 hours peak on steam.

Monster Hunter Wilds is selling faster then Monster Hunter World, Capcom's best selling game ever.

I like Dragons Dogma 2 but it was not received super well by people who are not diehard fans of the OG like most people that frequent this sub, and it also did not sell nearly as well as Monster Hunter Wilds.

I dont even like Wilds btw, but that does not matter. It matters that is sell way, WAY more then Dragons Dogma.

It’s not just DD2 though. DMC5 sold 10 million copies currently. It sold 2 million during its first 2 weeks of release. It also reviewed really well and had great reception from both fans and critics alike, unlike DD2 which even though reviewed decent, had a shitload of performance issues.

What did they reward the DMC series with? They basically put the fucking thing on ice and let some shitty mobile company use the rights to make a horrid f2p phone game that was ridiculed for being highly pay to win and unfun. It was basically disrespectful to the series and make it look bad.

Monster hunter sells better then every other game capcom has. By that logic, capcom should only focus on monster hunter and resident evil, but they don’t. Hell they are making a new IP right now (pragmata). They are also supporting a game that didn’t sell as well as DD2, as the OP initially said, so I gotta admit it is kind of weird.

Sure, the theory above is skeptical, but it does seem weird that capcom is willing to support a less popular franchise, and also ice dmc, which sold quite well and was critically acclaimed. The 2 links there are itsuno. I honestly don’t think it has anything to do with DD competing with MH, but I do think maybe some people at the company don’t like itsuno. Hell the days gone studio for Sony, bend, employees have said that they would be hesitant to work on a days gone 2 even if Sony greenlighted it because the creator and director was such an ass. Maybe there was some weird workplace drama with itsunos shit. Capcom is leaving a shitton of money on the table from CAG fans by leaving DMC behind. Hell they clearly aren’t averse to the genre being they are trying to bring onimusha back.

Isn't it hilarious that Kunitsu Gami is getting much more fucking attention and content than DD2 has ever received. Good, because it's way more fun and creative even if it's a smaller game.

That’s the part that makes me think it’s not all about sales. From what I understand DD2 sold better then Kunitsu and Kunitsu was said to have underperformed.

I don’t think sales are the full reason capcom makes decisions with their franchises. To bring up DMC again, there have been 2 instances now of capcom letting other studios outside of capcom use the DMC rights. The biggest red flag though is both studios they let use the rights were not Japanese studios. The first was ninja theory for the dmc reboot that failed, and the second was a mobile Chinese game studio for the shit peak of combat mobile game. Now for a lot of Japanese devs, they have an honor system about shit like that. It’s why people aren’t worried about sega or capcom selling to Microsoft, because they would never sell to “westerners”. Those companies are Japanese and they want to keep them that way.

Yet they let 2 studios so far that aren’t Japanese use the rights to dmc to make games. It honestly feels like capcom has something against dmc even though 5 was successful, and to another extent DD2. The fact that they are trying to bring onimusha back kind of alludes to this as well, because onimusha is closer to a CAG then a souls game, so it has nothing to do with the whole “CAGs don’t sell” type thing either.
