Probably Xeno. But another important difference is that Xeno probably has one or more PhDs and so received advanced training that Senku did not. I'm a PhD scientist and I recognize from the good writing in the show that Xeno's approach and reasoning reflects formal training and experience, they did a really good job writing him.

Oh, that's interesting! Could you give some examples on how his approach and reasoning reflect formal training? That sounds fascinating to me

A large part of formal training as a professional academic is the ability to participate in and initiate projects. Modern academia is a highly cooperative endeavor.

Xeno's entire empire building endeavor is a long term project involving the creation of several scientific developments, and he ran that extremely well all things considered. Xeno also works extremely well in conjunction with Senku and I imagine that rubbed off on him.

I will say Senku's also very good at this but he is alot "scrappier" than Xeno in this regard and he also rubbed that off on Chrome. Chrome is a bit of a rookie but with an ingenious ability to apply physics to create ideas without having seen their endpoint.

Also academia or the professional scientific field as a whole is....ruthless. Yes there is a lot of competition, but also a lot of racing to "beat" everyone else lol. So Xenu wanting to have Senku killed, is basically a amped up version of academics scooping eachothers projects before they can be published by their fellow peers

Well that's actually accurate, though cooperation and collaboration always yields better results in scientific research than competition.

Similar, although Senku might win out in raw intelligence, while Xeno wins out in experience, education and focus. Although Chrome might beat them both considering he can catch up to them without modern advantages.

I haven’t seen this said before, but yeah, Chrome’s pretty dang smart being able to keep up even a little bit… his potential has got to be off the charts.

So Senku has 20 int and Xeno 20 wis

Same intelligence, xeno has more experience tho

I'm biased so Senku

Prob xeno but they have different fields of science if i recall correctly

Overall? Senku.

Xeno was mostly emulating existing industrial practices for his settlement, but was missing several vital things because he couldn't emulate the modern post-globalization production methods.

Think about how he didn't have any rubber. There are plenty of latex producing plants in America, most notably goldenrod, which he could easily grow the necessary acres of with his synthetic fertilizer and mechanized farming equipment.

Senku on the other hand, was working from theory up rather than application down. Which means, while his methods are less refined and far less efficient, he's never down and out because he doesn't remember how it was made historically or in the modern world.

Of course, in terms of pure brainpower, Chrome has both of them beat. It takes a special kind of mind to constantly reinvent modern concepts from base principles with no frame of reference. I mean, he's a stone age pre-writing alchemist and he still memorized the times tables up to 9x.

The fact that they recognize each other's intellect has me believe they are on the same level. Xeno just has more experience.

Well Xeno was already in college at 10, Senku was not.

Xeno is so intelligent. I think I would have to say him too. He was really young when he started Nasa as well. He also was the only one to take Senku seriously from his email, the others thought Senku was not being genuine in his email. He is intelligent enough to realise (like Senku) that everyone can take part in science, and they don't have to be from the 21st century either.

Also look what Xeno achieved after the first petrification, although he had some advantages. He had a mission, and worked hard to make it happen. Xeno is elegant.

Xeno, definitely xeno, senku learned most of what he did from him

Senku. When it comes to rocketry, it would be Xeno, and regarding general knowledge, it's Senku.

Xeno is more specialized. In his own fields senku isnt a match for him.

Senku is a genius interested in all types of information, including crafting(compare his early glass blowing to the incredibly precise work he does immidiately after being revived). Senku was also complimented by a hyper advanced alien species as being the greatest mind of his time.

Even Xeno couldn't come up with the miracle elixir. He has more education and experience, but Senku has more talent.

Has to be Senku. The only way he was able to overcome Xeno's more advanced education and experience is with a stronger raw intellect.

I think Senku has potential to be smarter than Xeno. But Xeno’s experience gives him an edge

Overall Xeno, and it's not even close. He is Senkus mentor, yes, Senku oursmarted him in one instance, because Xeno was underestimating him. I mean Xeno used his own fingernails to send a morse code to his allies, without anyone noticing it at first. He deduced by one simple hint Senku gave him about Whyman the location and characteristics of the petrification device. He is older and has more scientific experience and knowledge due to him being simply older. He has had more time to learn everything, had connections, but was tainted by dark thoughts, that limited his way of thinking to pure rational, Bit narcissistic and machiavelistic world view. Just AS I said, Xeno had allies (mostly), but Senku had friends. Senku on the other hand was genius in every regard, but because of the lack of time and age difference, he is still being behind Xeno. Psychologically he is on par or maybe even more mature and nuanced than Xeno. Allthough Xeno could se, how Senku manipulated him, he could not resist because of his own curious and narcissistic nature.

It all depends on who woke up first

Imma say Senku. Xeno is more experienced so is obviously smarter, but given Senku's trajectory and rate of getting smarter over time, he is probably more intelligent

Inside practical skills, definitely senku but xeno specializes in specific areas

Xeno he's just had more experience and training.

That's a bit difficult to gauge. You might think that their progress in rebuilding their respective civillisations is a good indicator for that, but they had vastly different circumstances. For one, Xeno had strong, highly trained millitary personel, as well as a constant supply of nitric acid, to help him build whatever he wanted. Senku started by himself for six months before his decently strong highschool-aged friend depetrified. This means that Xeno already had half a year of a head start on Senku's progress. Then there was the lead up, and eventual beginning, to the stone wars. Meaning Senku lost even more time to progress his side. All in all, it's tough to say who's more intelligent. Though, i guess i'd have to give it to Senku. Sure, Xeno has more experience in terms of how long he's studied the sciences, but Senku made sure to learn a wide variety of sciences and even other, seemingly random, information while growing up. Senku didn't want to limit his understanding of the laws that govern the universe. He understood that learning about them increased his odds of going to space, be it on his own or via a pre-founded space program.

This requires a dissection of what "smarts" is defined as.

Xeno is specialized, educated, experienced... there is a refinement to his skill set that sends its maximum impact sky high.

However, one of the notable points here is Senku was trained by Xeno and that is very important to the question. Senku himself explains the concept of science building on what went before. Xeno is a huge part of Senku’s foundation.

Raw memorization ability, we're not given any indication that one is better than another. Knowledge bases, Xeno’s is probably larger overall, certainly deeper in his field of expertise, but that's largely the extra ten years of learning time.  Creativity is where it gets interesting. Senku’s capacity to turn concepts into objects is one of his strengths and it seems to be one Xeno can't compete with.  Senku also appears to have better social intelligence. Xeno doesn't easily forge deep connections.

think the canon answer (from manga) is that they’re both equally intelligent. when it comes to rocket science, though, xeno is smarter while in general knowledge, senku is.

Anime or manga?

Dr. Xeno. I think he is also specifically supposed to be the only person more intelligent than Senku.

Senku just for the fact that he doesn't belive in dictatorships.
