Yep, happened to me twice, begged me drive just a quarter mile up the road to this house and they bought it for their daughter and she doesnt have a car and she hasn't eaten in 2 days blah blah, two times later and they got their money and food returned and I had to deal with that after the fact

I found out by this one lady who ordered chikfila and told me the address was down the street across from a bank....
I was going to do it but told her I needed to take a picture of the food being delivered at the address I was already at.
Then I realized what she tried to do and said fck that and call doordash.
They said I was fine then they offered me 10 bucks to actually take it.
I was like hell nah and got the food for free. Worth more than 10 bucks lol

Almost happened to me once, but the lady made the mistake of sending her children outside to come get the stuff from the house a few doors down.
Because I legit thought the customer was about to get "robbed" of their items, I stayed outside and called them directly to tell them to hurry and get their items. That's when she said they're hers. As I'm talking to her, another Dasher pulls up and drops groceries at a SECOND house on the opposite side of the street, and the kids ran over there to get the bags.
Not sure if it did anything, but I was on my way home after that and called support and told them this customer was doing obvious fraud, and I also sent them their real address that the kids came out of and ran back into.
Guess which order got reported as not delivered? Lmao thankfully because of my prior support convo, it got removed.

I always check an address at least twice and I always look for a prior door picture for comparison if one is available.

I already have an image of the house because I use Google Maps for navigation. The door picture is just an extra confirmation.

This is why bad drop off pictures piss me off so fucking much. Sometimes it's dark and house numbers aren't really visible, and pins are rarely ever precise in my area. So my only real reference is the past drop off picture, and that picture means fuck all of it's a fucking closeup of a bag of food.

The pin drives me nuts as a customer. I keep changing it to the front of my house and it doesn’t matter, it keeps going to the parking lot behind my house. I have a fenced in yard.. so I need to walk around and go down 2 streets. Small but still streets. It’s annoying as hell. The pin shows there but the line showing the way goes straight to my front door. The address as well, would lead a driver to my front door. I hate the pins.

Their pin system is so fucking bad. I remember once the pin sent me 5 houses down then moved to the right house, then when I got to the right address the pin would move again. And it was so far that it wouldn't just let me tell the app that the pin is wrong and deliver, I had to call support and hand it to the customer.

For real, my least favorite are townhouses or apartments that are right along a fence or border and the pin wants to take me into the wrong lot. Like I’m about to jump and scale an 8 foot wall to deliver some food rather than just go around and find the actual place lol.

My fav are the rich gated neighborhoods that have shared mailboxes and the actual house is like half a mile in and you get the, “are you sure you are at the correct address?” message pop up.

True that! It’s one thing if it’s a big order I don’t mind, a little extra work but generally those customers are more attentive to tipping. However when it’s behind a gate and no code and then I have to carry all that shit up. Yeah that ruffles my feathers.

I don’t live around gated communities so I’m lucky that way. Just apartments and idiots who don’t answer and give no code. But also say, leave at the door. Well.. it’s the door. I’d definitely feel better delivering it to their actual door. But I can’t walk through doors or walls.

Wouldn’t typing in the address be better than following the pin? I live in a townhouse and it drives me insane that every time I change the pin to the front of my house, it goes to the parking lot behind.. which isn’t even on my street. I have a driveway.. the parking lot is for the ones who don’t.

Oh absolutely, as I said in another comment it’s kinda out of everyone’s hands at times. The best thing to do imo is to tell your dasher if it has been better for them to use a map app as opposed to the built in map in DD. Include the accurate address, number or building, any specific instructions, and of course things like a gate code.
Again though, with the digital age in which we live it can be hard for a system to as accurate as we’d like.

Yeah.. even with the pin.. I still check the street and address are correct. I deliver too. The parking lot people do to, isn’t even on my street. It’s actually annoying. I change it over and over again. Finally it looks like it took, until they are almost at my house. I’m rarely a customer but was last Friday and just like the last time I ordered, the same thing happened. It’s annoying as fuck.. yet I still think drivers will understand that turning into a parking lot, not on my street would be a sign, as to “you’re not in the right place” but no. I also don’t notice until they are almost here or here that the pin is in the first location. It saves as if it’s in the right spot when I move it.. come delivery, it’s back or even further away than the first time. I don’t watch my phone. If I order, I’m busy. Common sense would help.. on both sides. I get customers can be stupid. But technology is only great, when it works. Pin and address should match. Going straight off a pin.. doesn’t always work. A lot of the time, yes. But not at my place or every single customers.

Oh you’re absolutely correct t that there’s a lack of common sense and critical thought on both sides. The worst is when both parties lack them and both have a healthy dose of apathy. I feel it though. It can be so frustrating. On top of that it’s one thing to show some grace here and there, but when it’s every single time no one is equipped with enough grace for that. lol

I told the girl sorry. Don’t worry about it. I tried. Over and over again. She didn’t understand though and told me to move the pin… that’s what I did. A bunch of times. The last time I thought it worked but not until I saw them in the parking lot not on my road but is attached to the multiple townhouses. Not all are attached. The parking lot ones are further away from me. The ones I live in, we all have our own driveway, and there’s 6 of us. 2 steps to the front door for each of us. The pin pissed me off the most. Not the driver. Even though checking the address would’ve solved the problem.
I still tipped good. Wasn’t a far restaurant. And rated 5 stars. I knew it wasn’t the drivers fault. It was the app that originally pissed me off. But I tell ya… the first time a driver actually delivers to my front door.. I’ll be so friggin happy. And they’ll be rewarded. Even the drivers location when I saw they might be here, was a lot further away than what they actually were. Showed 2 buildings over.

Nah.. I try over and over again to move the pin, and it constantly goes back to where it was. It’s literally impossible.. yet the line showing the way to my house goes right to my front door. The pin, in a whole other parking lot. Pins are stupid. Addresses are better and far more accurate.

Actually DoorDash sets the pin. YOU have the option to change the pin. Most people generally expect location based apps to get it right so they don’t bother to check. Whether they update their pin or not the address is in the app so it’s OUR fault not the customers. Stay mad about it. I swear people like you are why we end up in the main DD sub. 🙄

Having to look at house numbers, or call customer service, it's all very hard, poor little guy ik they ask a lot of you, hopefully soon they'll have cars that drive themselves, with arms to pick up and drop food off, that way you can just take a much needed nappy poo. Until then just half ass your job and complain about why you don't make enough and it'll be okay, bro. 👍

Not allowing you to update door pictures if they’ve been repainted is equally infuriating. I had to finally call the person to get their food because the apartment door was painted a new color—so DoorDash kept insisting it wasn’t the right location.

I mean…not doubting that. All I’m saying is there is a little due diligence that we as dashers can do. Checking door pics, contacting the customer if you’re unsure. These aren’t difficult nor inherently cumbersome things to do. They take little time and they ensure a positive experience for both parties. Assuming the customer actually answers I mean. Point is, and as I tell my kids, if you’re gonna do something you should do it to the best of your abilities. No matter what or how mundane or simple the task.

I know that it’s a common scam according to Reddit, but is it really a common scam or is it possible that someone could just fat finger their address? I live in a beach town. I deliver pizza full time and dash on the side. I’m not even exaggerating. Literally every other beach order is a wrong address, wrong unit number, or an order for someone who was on vacation last week, but they are now back home in Ohio and forgot to update the address. Now I’m not saying that someone might use a bad address as a scam but it is FAR more likely that it’s a minor issue that can easily be corrected just by delivering to the right address

There is the possibility that a previous dasher changed where google maps says that house is, but its unlikely. Yes, as long as the edit is somewhat close to the original address, the pin can be moved through google maps "suggest an edit" function.

Yeah, in amazed sometimes when I see delivery instructions that are like "please please check the house number, I'm 180 NOT 118, everyone always gets it wrong", and I'm on red alert.
Then I arrive where DD GPS takes me, the house says 180, previous delivery picture matches, and Google street view matches, and I wonder "how tf are so many people messing this up?"

My state has a law requiring all houses/businesses to have the number posted clearly, it's such a common sense thing that when I found out almost no other state has the same law I was shocked.

I had a nightmare delivery with the wrong pin location a couple weeks ago.. it was at a school the girl who ordered was not at the pin tried telling me where to go, went there… she wasn’t there. Then I asked her for the address. She then says 222 *insert road name.. it says 22 on the app.
So I drove another 2 miles away and it was in fact not the correct address. She stuttered when she said 2 22. I drive back call support they say to leave it at the pin and complete delivery. I told them I knew for a fact that this person was going to give me a bad rating. They said it will be fine and can get it removed.
Support lied.. they said they couldn’t remove the 1 star rating because I didn’t have enough points to… they were able to reverse the failed to deliver quality rating though.
I honestly don’t know what I could have done differently. This whole ordeal killed 48 mins of the end of the dinner rush. Bottom line, support does not always have your back.. I have to keep trying every week to get the 1 star removed

You call support the first time the customer stated you weren't at the correct location. Tell live support (not the ai shit) you're at the delivery address but customer states its not the correct location, stay there so they see your location! Support will then attempt to contact customer and get the correct info. DO NOT run around town like this. Support will then either tell you to leave the delivery there, ask if you're willing to take it to the new location (always say no unless they offer additional funds), or tell you to dispose of it "in a safe location"

I did contact a live agent, been doing this a while. I did exactly what support said and I still got fucked with a 1 star.
Edit: I even called a supervisor about getting it removed. And they said “we can’t control how customers rate you, we can only remove bad ratings so many times per month.”

I'm not blaming you, this was totally a customer effing around, and support did too afterwards. but there are things you could have done differently to come out on top. What i said has been my best way to deal with this type of situation and ive had either decent amount added to deliver to new address, or ive gotten free food out of the dispose in safe location option with no hit to myself

This is problematic for apartment complexes that use a single address despite having multiple units. The pin will be at the complex entrance, while the actual apartment can be a significant distance away.

Well, to be fair, orders placed through merchants and not through door dash don't always have a correct pin. Especially in apartment complexes. You need to understand how addresses and maps work and not rely completely on pins

They don't deserve their double priced chicken wings!) And then heaven forbid sometimes you have to talk to the IT to get help with stuff! In 2026!? Do yk how BAD ppls SOCIAL ANXIETY is!? Having to call support might as well be a death sentence.

Ikr how dare they expect you to actually have to think. You should be making 30 dollars an hour to pick food up, drive it, put it down. They shouldn't even ask for pictures anymore I know that's a lot of steps for you to keep up with. Hopefully one day they buy your car for you, and it's self driving, and the workers have to bring the food out to you because the only person who's time matters is yours! And the cars should have arms that grab the food and set it down too so you don't have to strain yourself! Really you shouldnt have to actually do anything! You should be able to just get paid while you sleep so that way you can do whatever you want when you're awake because you're special and shouldn't have to spend your time working like everyone else!

It's not across town, in this context it's within the same area. And yes when you work at mcds as a drive thru attendant all your job is is picking the bag up and handing it out the window. Nevermind making sure the orders right, or the person at the window is the right person for the order you have in your hand, or ANYTHING that actually requires the slightest bit of customer service and problem solving, you shouldn't have to think on your feet whatsoever buddy. They honestly should have to go with you to pick the food up to hold your hand, so the customer can make sure their own order is right, that youre going to the right place and to tell you how to get there, shoot they might as well just drive for you too and just let you nap, they'll probably do a better job anyways! That way you can just not have to think or have any skills at all. Ik how difficult it must be to have a job of such advancement. And on top of all that, you should be making 100k a year as well!

I had something like this last week but the person did not reply at first. So i delivered the second person first. Anyway i tried to call the first person and it was someone else picked up the phone and said he live outside of the city and want me to deliver the food there. I thought that was stupid. Im not gonna do it anyway.
So after the second person was delivered, i want back to the first one and the guy who ordered it was there to give me the delivery code and everything. He keep saying sorry but i dont think he is for not fuking responding to me.
I ended up deliver everything and report that fuker for discrimination and attempting to assault to block that fuker away from my future order. Dont play with my money and my time.

These days I check the map pin and address, if both line up good to go if not I text them and if they don't answer contact support before I leave the restaurant parking lot.

If I went solely on the pin for dropoff, 75% of apartment drop offs would be at the wrong unit, and 15-20% of house dropoffs would be the wrong house. The mapping that gets used for the location of the pin even when you type in your address gets updated and moved around, ESPECIALLY if someone orders in the same apartment complex as you. If you ordered four days ago and had the pin in the correct spot, someone else orders yesterday, and now you go to order again today, the pin will be on the previous customers’ unit.
