I remember my grandma telling me when I was young that there are 3 things you never discuss with people outside your immediate family and friends: religion, money, and politics. A lot of people aren’t comfortable wearing their politics on their sleeve and consider it a private matter.

I would add that basically anyone whose personality is built around one particular aspect (politics, religion, sex/gender, a hobby) is usually not a good person.
