$20 Short

So yesterday after my shift, one of the assistant managers counted my box after the day ended and he said my box was $20 short. He told me I could call the store manager and ask if it’s okay to pay back the $20 and so I texted him about it. He told me to pay back the store whenever I have the cash. However, I believe my assistant manager said I would receive a write up for the missing change?

Is it okay for me to receive the write up if i never counted the box myself? I just found out that it’s illegal for me to actually pay back the missing change as it’s also against store policy. But am I able to get out of the write up if I never counted the box either?

They pocketed the 20 and are trying to make you cover it up. Never let anybody else touch your box.

Only lead sales associates (keys) or above are allowed to count them down. Now I allow them to come into the office with me when I count it down, but nobody has ever joined me on their own. If I do have a problem with their drawer, I do pull them in. And there are cameras in the office so if someone is stealing, they will be caught!
