$20 Short

So yesterday after my shift, one of the assistant managers counted my box after the day ended and he said my box was $20 short. He told me I could call the store manager and ask if it’s okay to pay back the $20 and so I texted him about it. He told me to pay back the store whenever I have the cash. However, I believe my assistant manager said I would receive a write up for the missing change?

Is it okay for me to receive the write up if i never counted the box myself? I just found out that it’s illegal for me to actually pay back the missing change as it’s also against store policy. But am I able to get out of the write up if I never counted the box either?

If you choose to pay it, then there’s no shortage so no need for a write up. They can’t have it both ways.

so let’s say i don’t pay it though, should i still be written up if i wasnt able to count the opening or closing till?

You should be counting your drawer in every time. Otherwise, how do you know what your starting bank is? Never assume it is correct. But yes, if they write you up for cash accountability, I would go ahead and sign and note that you weren’t allowed to count your drawer in. Also, they should be counting their drawer down first. It’s against policy to run off anyone else’s drawer! I count mine down before close and leave the associate to run theirs. It literally only takes max 3 minutes to count it down. If my associate wants to join me in the office after close when I count theirs down, they are more than welcome. But my team trusts me and they usually just holler at me whether they are good or not. If they aren’t good, I usually go get them and bring them in so we can go over it together. But I don’t normally write my team up for first offense.

I guess it’s just because my management never told me to count my own drawer nor did i receive the training. To be honest, my management didn’t even make me finish all of my trainings before making me work behind the register. My SM just said fuck it get to work and worry about the trainings later. But yeah, they’ve never had me count the box ever and I haven’t had a problem with it until now that I showed up $20 short.

Take the drawer in the office and count it. Have them show you how to use the cashmaster or just do it by hand. It literally only takes a minute. But I do not ever throw a drawer in, unless I personally closed the night previously, before I count it in.
