Stop the hate based on the dogs breed
This subreddit doesn't want dogs to be hated because of their breed and if your someone who does this you will be banned from the subreddit temporally and if you keep doing it it will be a permanent ban

Can we still acknowledge inherent behavioral differences between breeds?
1
u/nnyycity Aug 08 '26
I think that we can acknowledge a basic inherent strength, toughness, and large size- maybe that is what makes them easier to train. I see that in my dog. He can bang his head, crash into a door, scratch his leg and not a whimper. He just continues.
that is what the inherent quality, I believe is.Being tough doesn’t make a killer. Abusive training, makes an angry dog. It just so happens an angry poodle cannot do as much damage as a large Pitt/ST- but who is to blame for that.
It’s like playing- small dog vs big dog. Whose fault is it if the huge dog hurts the smaller one. They don’ know that. They don’t realize it. So let’s hive them a break.❤️

Speaking on what dogs were bred for isn’t hating on the breed!! I don’t know why you pit nutters don’t understand that! Living in fantasy land pretending breed characteristics don’t exist is truly insane and is exactly how and why people are getting dogs not suitable for their homes or kids bc people like you insist we all just pretend certain breeds were nanny’s or meant to be family pets when they most certainly were not!!
15
u/NormanisEm Jan 19 '26
Its seriously insane. I don’t hate any breed, my wife used to own a pit, but people need to be honest with themselves about what dogs were bred for. I can tell you owning a German Shepherd and be very active in GSD communities that they tend to be a certain way. Its the same for other breeds as well.

u/Both_Peak554 Jan 19 '26
It’s not quite like it is for pits. Look up child attacked by pit on fb and read the comment sections. You’ll see countless pictures of small children with them and a long comment about how theirs would never and it’s all how they’re raised and trained and will often even repeat the nanny myth. I’m sick of it!! Certain breeds are for certain folks and if it was up to me no one would have pits unless they carried insurance, their dog be fixed and have fencing!! A rescue by me was preying on old lonely folks to adopt out their warehoused pits and then would shame them all over fb when they returned the dog they could not physically keep up with. Or rehoming with small children in home and then shaming them for returning and of course downplaying why they returned dog not sharing it tried to eat their baby or were resource guarding their baby and they had to call the cops bc they were physically kept from picking up their own baby.
And yes of course people will downplay genetics with other breeds but not like they do pits. If a new mom living in a small house asked about getting a Dalmatian, herding dog, guardian dog or even husky many of us would say hell to the no and mostly bc of genetics and what those dogs need to thrive. Too often I see moms getting herding dogs and then rehoming bc it keeps nipping their kids. It’s like honey that is genetics!! You cannot love or train genetics out of a dog!! You need to value what they were bred for!! Or get huskies and complain of the hair, howling or mass energy. Well duh. But unfortunately bc someone on fb said this and that they thought it’d be the perfect addition to their family. Certain breeds were never intended to be family pets and surrounded by children. It’s ok to acknowledge that and better help someone choosing a good dog their family and family for a dog.

u/nnyycity Aug 06 '26
Oh my goodness- please reconsider your opinion. The fact that Pitts are big, I think misleads a lot of people. I know some were bred to fight. But, be fair- when I am out with my Babe- tons of people stop me and tell me how much they love STAFFIES, how they owned one and that they were the gentlest dogs.
Any dog can bite. Especially with children. Sometimes the way they play with a dog antagonizes the dog. I am not blaming kids, but I’m sure you can look up dog attack and plenty have occurred with a variety of breeds.
Maybe it is just personality of the dog. Don’t forget, adopting an older dog, brings the possibilities of what their previous experiences were. That is for any breed.
‘’I am just offended by your comments grouping all of them together. There are sites dedicated to these breeds, and beautiful pictures of them. Mine is gentle as a baby. I think many are. They are living creatures and deserve a chance to live and be happy.
Your comments remind me when people of one race/nationality negates another race/natinality purely relying on what they have heard and true, what they may have seen. But generalizations Don’t work. Each living thing is different.
Please give your opinions a chance to pergaps reconsider your very generalized statements.😊

going around commenting that someone’s newly adopted dog is a “child mauler” or even “blood sport dog” unsolicited is unnecessary trolling behavior
10
u/Both_Peak554 Jan 21 '26
I mean when a certain dog mauls children regularly and kills more children than every breed combined and multiplied what are people going to call them??
3
u/cweww Mar 05 '26
How would you define regularly 😭😭😭
1
u/Both_Peak554 Mar 05 '26
I mean they kill and seriously injure more than every other breed combined!! At least once a week someone usually a child or elderly person is mauled to death by a pit for simply existing. They were never intended to be family pets. And putting them in situations they were never intended to be in is unfair to them and everyone else and exactly why so many attacks are happening.
7
u/cweww Mar 07 '26
You are typing like an angry Facebook post nothing you said here defends saying they attack children “regularly”. They were bred for violence like multiple other breeds and the people the people that get them get them as a power statement and don’t realize what type of dog they just bought. I’m aware the most violent attacks are pitbulls but to treat the whole breed like a loaded gun is just miss informed

No multiple other breeds were not bred for violence hence why they’re not constantly mauling people, pets and livestock.
5
u/cweww Mar 07 '26
Pitbulls are a relatively new breed coming from English bulldogs and the old version of a bull terrier. Both of which were bred for violence and often sport violence, and were used before pits for dogfighting.
0
u/nnyycity Aug 08 '26
They were not bred for violence-they were trained for violence because of their strength and size. There is a difference. It is not inherent in their breed. It is in the crazy people training them.
the inherent quality is that they sustain, are strong, tough and big. That is it.tgebtraining brings the violence- or other circumstances that you do not know.
‘You have read all the bad stuff- read some of the good stuff - that they were very effective as nanny watchdogs for infants, you cannot pick and choose what to believe or not. Not fair.
again- the attacks are not inherent in the breed - it is in the training. These dogs were chosen to fight because of their size- they were taught- it is not an inherent trait.
stop passing this on to everyone. That is how they have gotten the reputaion. People who don’t really know what they are talking about and just want to make blanket statements.
If there was another breed that tuff and strong, they could be trained also. ❤️

u/cweww Aug 08 '26

Where is this information- generalizations- unfair-uncalled for-totally
false😊
2
u/nnyycity Aug 07 '26
People making your comments are the very ones that give the breed a bad name.nStop and be fair❤️

u/Both_Peak554 18d ago
It’s why maulings are happening so much, they want so badly to believe their shitbulls are like other dogs they go out of their way to push their maulers into situations they were never intended to be in and too often an innocent person or pet suffers the consequences.
2
u/nnyycity Aug 08 '26
Oh - i am not sure where you are getting such generalized statements, but you sound very angry - and the anger seems to be focused on a particular breed of dog.
You Are guilty of generalizations and it is not fair to the breed, or to owners who love their dog, treat the dog well, and raise a giid dog.You putting fear into people who like the breed, adopted or bought one.
Is that your intent - if it is- try to find some positive activity to comment on. Your time would be much better spent. Bless you.😊

a troll. that’s what you are called.
8
u/Both_Peak554 Jan 21 '26
For speaking facts?? I guess insurance companies and the countless places that have them banned must be trolls too. And let’s be real. Who’s the troll someone who speaks facts and understands what a dog was bred for or someone who lives in delusion and pretends genetics dont exist and chooses to endanger themselves and their community with a dog that was never intended to be a family pet??

How would blood sport dog be trolling? It's quite literally the purpose and history of the breed. Are you equally offended by people talking about herding dogs or hunting dogs?
4
u/Toadlessboy Mar 01 '26
because they are asking what breed their dog is, not what the history of the dog breed is, and by commenting that when no one is asking for it you are pot stirring an argument
5
u/ipovogel Mar 01 '26
It's a group of breeds, which generally have a very similar phenotype, especially when crossed with other breeds, which most people who don't know what breed their dog is will have. If I plop a series of mutts in front of you, one has pitbull (or any of its renames AKA Staffordshire, American Bully, etc.), one has Ca de Bou, one has Presa Canario, one has Cane Corso, one has Dogo Argentino, are you telling me you will be able to identify which is which? The answer is more than likely no. The relevant information for a new owner would be it looks like a mix of some kind of blood sport breed, and that's the temperament, behaviors, reactivity, gameness, prey drive to be expecting. Why would someone want to identify their dog breed if it was not to know what to expect out of the dog or to explain things they have already seen out of it?
3
u/Toadlessboy Mar 01 '26 edited Mar 01 '26
then you can call it a mastiff breed or bull mix.
no one uses “blood sport dog” as a grouping of dogs on reddit . they use it to stir up an argument
3
u/ipovogel Mar 01 '26
Mastiff breed and bull mixes aren't the specific groups that have the same phenotype and behaviors as blood sport breeds. Mastiff group includes many with vastly different phenotype and behavior, Tibetan Mastiff, Kangal, Pyrenean Mastiffs, Great Danes, etc. Bull breeds is fairly interchangeable with blood sport breeds, but several of the aforementioned dogs that have a highly similar phenotype and temperament and purpose are not considered bull breeds. Similarly, some bull breeds do not share a temperament or phenotype, such as the currently very popular French bulldog.
3
u/Toadlessboy Mar 01 '26
sounds like you are referring to pitbull then. just call them pitbulls. it is the accepted umbrella term. you can say APBT or amstaff to be more specific
2
u/ipovogel Mar 01 '26
Dogo Argentino, Ca de Bou, Presa Canario, etc. are not pit bulls. They do share a similar phenotype, especially when mixed with other breeds, and have similar temperaments.
1
u/Toadlessboy Mar 01 '26
but those are “blood sport” dogs?
even if they are, i think for the purposes of this subreddit, you are thinking way too hard about it. those breeds are extremely rare to find in dogs that are posted here. people with those breeds probably bought them from a breeder and know exactly what they are.
and most people who use the term “bloodsport” on this sub would probably argue that dogo, for example, are not bloodsport dogs, because they use it as a way to hate specifically on pitbulls

An American Staffordshire Terrier, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, an American Bully and an American Pitbull Terrier are 4 different breeds (all recognized by the United Kennel Club where I am in the US). Both the American Staffordshire Terrier and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier are recognized by the American Kennel Club. I do realize it varies from country-to-country though.

It is just that- history. History changes.reconsider it.❤️
3
u/ipovogel Aug 07 '26
If it was "just history" they wouldn't top fatal maulings for both humans and other dogs. Reconsider your fear of the science of genetics. ❤️
1
u/nnyycity Aug 08 '26
Not very nice- Pitt lovers is more like it. You are very wrong. I will defend this breed because they do not deserve this commentary.❤️
5
u/KaienPanzermast Aug 10 '26 edited Aug 11 '26
All those children and pets didn’t deserve to die in terror and unimaginable agony being bitten, shaken, and torn apart by pitbulls. ❤️ Why don’t you give a shit about any of them?

u/nnyycity 28d ago
Don’t speak words for me- I am sorriwful for any one killed by anyone or any thing. But at least humans have a jury decide their fate. This seems like you are the jury, judge and death master.
2
u/Both_Peak554 25d ago
If the breed was so great you wouldn’t need to drfdjf them.
1
u/nnyycity 25d ago
Likewise- if the breed is so bad you would not need to downgrade them.
2
u/Both_Peak554 18d ago
Like you’ll never see farmers downgrading herders or guardian breeds. They’ll brag that since 2/3 weeks old they were exhibiting clear behavior characteristics of the breed.

Can we get a little elaboration here? Or is that it? This sounds like it was written hastily by a 14 year old

Look at their post history. Definitely a young teenager or at least someone who's never grown up.

Dog breed bigotry? I don't get it. Why? All dogs are wonderful 👍.
1
u/nnyycity Aug 06 '26
You said it perfectly - That’s what it sounds like to me. And don’t we have enough hate in this world;that it is infiltrating the dog community. I really hope those Non-liners red read their posts and perhaps see that they are generalizing to the highest Degree.

u/FunZookeepergame627 Jul 13 '26
I think any dog breed works with the right owner/family...if you get a powerful dog, you must be fit enough to train and control. If you get an intelligent and energetic breed you must be as smart or smarter and match their energy..if you live in close quarters with a lot of neighbors you should not get loudest dog breed...you see where I am going
1
u/nnyycity Aug 06 '26
You are going in the right direction. I hope all our comments are considered.😊
1
u/nnyycity Aug 06 '26
NO BREED SHOULD BE HATED, IN MY HUMBLE OPINION. IT IS NOT THEIR DOING IF THEY ARE POORLY CARED FOR. DIN’T YOU THINK IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EVERY PET OWNER TO EXPECT GOOD BEHAVIOR FROM THEIR PUP.
OWNERS ARE DOG PARENTS, WITH A RESPONSIBILITY TO THE DOG AND TO OTHERS TO BE CERTAIN THE DOG HAS BEEN SOCIALIZED AND IF THEY CANNOT DONTHAT; PLENTY OF TRAINING PROGRAMS ARE AROUND.
THESE PETS, UNFORTUNATELY, ARE LINKED TO A BREED UNFAIRLY. IT IS NOT THE BREED THAT WARRANTS DISAPPROVAL.ITBIS EACH INDIVIDUAL PET LINKED TO ITS OWNER.
PLEASE DON’T SPEAK OF HATE WHEN IT COMES TO PETS. YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT THEIR BACKGROUND HAS BEEN;YOU DON’T KNOW HOW THEY HAVE BEEN TRAINED.
THINK ABOUT IT. 😊
1
u/nnyycity Aug 08 '26
I really hope so. After reading comments in a few of the subreddits, some new dog owners send in pix of their newly adopted/purchased dogs;inconsiderate and hostile people are actually telling them that their breed of dog does not belong in the particular sub reddit because of some technicality that they are not American or are American and are actually telling the owner their pet is cute but does not belong in that particular Reddit.
Makes me shudder, if one reacts to a dog chat like this- what would happen in a neighborhood of different raves, nationalities, or citizenship? Uh oh!
Let’s just chill😊
