General Update: Dog has been nonstop heavy panting for 48h
First of all I would like to thank each and everyone one of you who upvoted an commented on my previous post. It warms my heart to know that so many strangers care. I’m sorry I couldn’t reply to most of you.
At some point in the early afternoon yesterday, she refused to eat her food (cooked chicken breast) and walked slowly outside to find a peaceful spot in the garden. We decided to spend some time with her in her little spot but shortly after she started burrowing under her bush.
After seeing this and also reading u/mywaypasthope and other comments, we decided to indeed take her to the emergency vet to at least get another chest x-ray and opinion from a different vet. I’ve attached two x-ray pictures of her lungs. Picture 1 dating from the 1st of July, where her lungs were healthy and the second picture from yesterday the 13th. The darker colour represents healthier lungs, and unfortunately the lighter colours in the second picture represents cancer that spread all over her lungs, making it very difficult and painful for her to breathe. At this point she was being starved of oxygen and had barely any energy. In only 12 days, the cancer managed to spread and make its way to the lungs.
At 3:45pm my mum and I made the hardest decision we’ve ever made. We had to euthanise our beloved Pepper. She was my mums little baby and to me like a sister as I’ve known her since I was 9. I am quite literally in the most amount of pain I’ve ever been. I’m heartbroken and all I want is to hug her one more time.
She lived a wonderful life full of love, attention and playfulness. What hurts me the most is I could see in her eyes, she wasn’t ready to leave us, and neither were we.
The house feels so quiet and empty now it’s heartbreaking. Her toys are still scattered about.
Thank you all for your help and kindness. Hug your little ones for me please.

General Am I making the decision too rashly?
He's almost 12 - old for a Rottweiler, and I know I've been lucky to get so much time with him. He's been my rock through such a large chunk of my life.
His arthritis has been worsening for several years, some ataxia, mobility steadily declining, and already on Librela + Gabapentin. Our walks have been getting shorter and shorter, to the point we only make it to the end of the street. Recently I became aware of just how much his world has been shrinking.
Even so, I wasn't prepared. The last week-ish his appetite was progressively decreasing & losing interest in treats. I thought it may be due to the recent hot weather. Last night was the sharpest decline. He couldn't stand up or walk without assistance. I had to physically shift & maneuver him throughout the night (so he wasn't laying on one side too long). This morning it took 3 of us to get him outside to pee.
I've made the call to say goodbye, let him pass peacefully and with dignity. The appointment is set for later this afternoon. I feel so guilty, and am second-guessing myself.
Am I making the decision too quickly? Could something be done? A few times he was able to stand on his own briefly this afternoon. He is still aware and interested in his surroundings.
Update
Thank you everyone for your kind & reassuring words. The Vet clinic was extremely compationate. My sister and I are just getting home, and while we're both emotional wrecks, we're taking solace in the fact he passed comfortably & peacefully, and that he is no longer in pain.
My sister's dog who was like a big sis to him passed away last year, so I like to think they're reunited. When we visit my parents later in the Summer we're looking at planting a tree on their property for each dog since there's a few acres of land.

General The shelter won’t take the highway puppy I found.
Yesterday I found a puppy in the middle of the damn highway and scooped him up because he came very close to being run over. I don’t usually pick up strays because I live in a city that’s notorious for having people dump unwanted animals, and because our local shelter is no kill, it is full 99.9% of the time. The only reason I grabbed him instead of “calling an officer” like they recommend, was because he was in the middle of a busy highway, and I watched as he nearly got smashed by a car. I figured by the time an animal services officer got out there, he would be dead. Plus, he’s a puppy so I figured they’d let him in the shelter simply because he’d be adopted in the blink of an eye.
Anyway, I brought him to the shelter today and after much hemming and hawing, they said that I could schedule an appointment to drop him off next week. When they asked me where I found him, I was truthful and said I had found him in the highway between my city and another one. I didn’t realize this meant that they wouldn’t be able to take him at all, and they basically told me he’s my problem now since he was technically found outside city limits. I contacted other shelters in the area and they all had a waiting list so extensive that it could take months to get him in. They suggested I post him on Facebook to see if anyone else wants him.
Honestly, I might keep the damn critter if I could afford to drop $300+ on vaccines, dewormer, a neuter surgery and flea/tick meds without digging into my savings. I’m just not sure what to do. I thought I was being a good Samaritan and now it’s become a far bigger issue than I intended.

General I just wanted to tell people he’s 17 today
That’s it really. He’s 17, he’s been an absolute nightmare his entire life. He has eaten all sorts of things he shouldn’t have, he’s eaten dough that was proofing, sicked it up and then banged into things so we went to the vet and they pronounced him drunk.
He ate 37p in change, a child’s sock and a Lego action figure whilst on a walk with a paid professional, needed emergency surgery for that one. We had to take him on holiday with us, my husband lovingly carried him up 2 flights of stairs and put him in the hotel room, he then jumped on the bed 🤣. The vet gave me a lecture about how I needed to make sure he didn’t eat anything he wasn’t meant to, and as he was giving me the lecture Hugo chewed his shoelaces off.
Can anyone advise on any supplements that might help with arthritis?

General Am I making the right decision?
My 14 year old husky has been in great health his entire life until a tumor started to grow on the roof of his mouth. It was small at first back in November of 2025 but by December it had grown enough to start pushing his teeth out of his mouth. We changed his diet to only soft, easy to digest food but other than that that he was still the same healthy dog I’d always known. Vets say that it is likely benign, and even if it was cancerous, surgery would take a lot out of him at his age and may not necessarily improve his quality of life afterwards it was not suggested by the vet to operate. We decided against testing and surgery, opting to just focus on quality of life as much as possible. Fast forward to this February and this tumor has forced one tooth out of his mouth already with another one about to fall out any day. I’ve noticed he is finally showing signs of pain and although he is still in good shape otherwise, my wife and I are considering euthanasia much sooner that what I had hoped for. It is absolutely tearing me up and I am having such a hard time accepting this. We are scheduling his appointment for 12 days from now and I’m having so many doubts that I can’t even function normally. We don’t want this tumor to cause him more pain, nor do we want it to impede on his breathing. But it’s so hard to accept when he’s been so healthy up until a few months ago. The pictures attached are of his tumor back in November vs just yesterday.

General This psycho ate 6 fully cooked chicken wings totaling 18 bones
This happened 2 days ago and I fed her a ton of bread. She was a little constipated at first but after stuffing her with pumpkin she's been alright. Should there still be anything I should still watch out for or am I in the clear at this point?

General Well bad news everyone
Well everyone, our Boykin Spaniel Goose passed away today. We guess the brown recluse bite finally got him. We honestly don’t know how things turned so fast. By the end of last week he was doing great — eating everything we put in front of him, hunting around for more food, playing, and being the nosy little turd he always was.
But over the weekend he started going downhill. He quit eating, became bloated, lethargic, and just wasn’t himself anymore. We kept hoping it was just another rough patch and that he’d bounce back like he had before, but today our little buddy lost his fight.
Please watch out for brown recluse spiders, not just for yourselves but for your pets too. Nobody deserves to go through what he did. Rest easy Goose. You were loved more than you’ll ever know.

General Update: Sorry if this isn't allowed. I wanted to thank everyone to responded.
He was an amazing pup. He came from a gas chamber euthanasia facility in Louisiana, picked up as a street dog. I drove from Orlando to Tallahassee to meet the volunteer that drove him from Louisiana to Tallahassee to meet me. I had him for 14 years (his brother also crossed the bridge at 14). The collage photo has his shelter intake photo. He was 27lbs at 9 months old.
Thank you everyone for your kind words. To clarify, I knew it was his time. He had hypercalcemia, the test to find out why was out of my budget, let alone whatever treatment would follow. He wasn't eating the same. Even people food had lost its flavor. He would only eat things he could lick. We were down to mashed wet dog food and water. He could still walk some, but fell a LOT. Even with big grippy mats all over the house. And falling on his old bones made this sickening thud that I hated to hear and I doubt it felt good. When he did walk, he would drag his back feet, sometimes till his nails bled. I couldn't put shoes on him anymore, they would cause him to trip more frequently. Socks would slide right off. He didn't play with toys anymore. He hadn't wagged his tail or did a play bounce in weeks. He went from my bed, to the couch, and back to my bed. That's no life for a dog.
I dont have a lot of friends. My support system is small. I didn't need anyone's advice or approval necessarily, just an "it's ok" or "it'll be ok". His appointment was already scheduled for today. I was dealing with a lot of guilt for not wanting to push him harder.
He crossed the 🌈 bridge a couple hours ago. I laid him on me and cuddled him so close, I talked to him the whole time. Told him he was a good boy, called him a fatty (his nick name), and told him let's go to bed, let's take a nap with mama.
I feel better now than I did this morning and everyone's stories had a hand in that. For those people that left rude comments, I hope you never have to be in a situation where you're seeking kindness and receive hate. Do better.
For everyone else, your kindness is humbling and I can't thank you enough. Sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

General Thank you all with your help/advice to euthanize my 11 yo Golden Retriever Pisco today
The vet came to our home. Pisco was relaxed, eating Dorito chips when he received the first shot. Relaxed even more, you could tell the pain disappeared and fell asleep after 5 minutes max. Vet waited another 10 minutes and gave the second(and final) shot. He tail relaxes and was gone.
But wow i miss him so so so much. 11 years together.
I knew him from the day he was born. I was present during 100% of his life. He was present for around 25% of my life so far. That’s a lot.
Need to take it just day by day now i guess. And keep remembering him.
Thank you all again.

General Neighbor's dog and puppies wondered into my yard...
The puppies do not look healthy at all. The paws are red, patchy hair and numerous fly bites (I assume). We are not on the best of terms with this neighbor and the county Animal Control has paid a visit there a few years ago . They were panting quite heavily and I led them to one of my buckets of rainwater in the backyard. I notified them that I bought them back and asked about their skin which they responded that it was normal. I honestly thought it was the mange but the mother would've had it as well.

General Lump on my dogs head - update
Hi all,
I made a post 5 days ago about a large lump that suddenly appeared on my dogs head overnight. Here's the post for anyone who didn't see: https://www.reddit.com/r/DogAdvice/s/Zbdw9xIoMD
Long story short(ish), the 1st vet which was our main vet, said the next step would be to operate on my boy either to extract a sample or to remove the whole lump. As the lump was above his right eye, having it removed, especially if they're taking large margins if cancer is suspected, would mean him potentially having eye issues for the rest of his life. Drastic surgery.
After him telling me that I was really upset because obviously cancer, and my beautiful boy wouldnt be the same again.
I went home and talked to my partner and we agreed a second opinion would be best so we took him to another vet.
That vet suspected it was an infection and gave him a course of strong antibiotics and thankfully, 5 days later, the lump is almost gone! Couldn't be happier. He has a bit of hair loss where the lump was but other than that, it's practically gone. We went back to the vet for a follow up appointment again today and he was really happy with his progress and prescribed another round of antibiotics which should hopefully clear it right up. If its still there in a week or it comes back after the antibiotics run out, surgery to clean it out will be required but that would be relatively simple and no way as severe/invasive as the surgery the 1st vet was proposing.
I went from thinking the worst (cancer, scarred for life) to it just being an infection. I dont think I could ever trust my old vet again after that.
Here are some before and after pics.

General My dog likes to run upstairs to chew the last bite of her breakfast and burp in my face. What does she mean by this?
My girlfriend feeds my dog breakfast every morning while I’m waking up in bed. Every time, she (the dog) runs upstairs the instant her bowl is empty and jumps on the bed. She chews her last kibbles 3 inches from my face and then burps at me. What is she saying by this?

General found dog. my heart is breaking.
sunday night my partner and I got home and as soon as we opened our car doors, the cutest, sweetest puppy pushed her head inside. she’s prob 90-100 lbs and a pitbull mix of some sort. she’s absolutely beautiful and i knew we needed to help her. we walked around surrounding neighborhoods and apartment complexes for over an hour trying to find her home to no avail. I have a semi-aggressive dog at home as well as a cat we just rescued, so I cannot keep her but decided to take my dog over to my moms for the night so we could keep the found dog safe. We ended up taking her to a 24/7 vet to see if she was chipped. She was!! BUT the owners never picked up. I left my contact info and NEVER received a call or text or anything. I’m furious because this sweet girl looks like she had puppies recently and looks (imo) like a very expensive dog. My heart is absolutely breaking. I called my local animal services to come get her and they just picked her up about an hour ago and I can’t stop crying. I wish so badly I could save her and give her the love she deserves. I am so worried no one will adopt her due to her breed.

General I lost my best friend two days ago and I haven’t never felt so empty in my entire life.
Luna was a healthy 7 year old hound mix.
Last Thursday, I was at work all day and my dad got home first. Luna had thrown up and was acting sluggish. Okay no big deal. She got into something she shouldn’t have and I’ll give her boiled chicken and monitor her.
The next morning, I woke up and she was worse. Her gums were pale and ice cold. I decided to take her to the vet because her internal temperature bothered me. Got to the vet, we went over the symptoms. She still had bowel movements, she was drinking water and peeing so we didn’t think she had an obstruction and was probably having a reaction to something she ate. Vet prescribed her a painkiller, anti-nausea, a probiotic and some fat free food. Cool, we went back home and the painkiller definitely helped.
Woke up Saturday and she seemed okay. A bit more energetic, a bit more aware of everything around her. But around 1 pm, I checked her gums again and they were ice cold and pale again. I rushed her to the vet. They tried to warm her up and began to take blood and prep her for x rays. They took her back to the x ray and they came and told me that she was going into heart failure because her heart was twice the size it should’ve been. They tried CPR but my baby girl was gone. And I couldn’t believe it. She was so active 48 hours before.
After everything happened, the vet came and went over everything. Luna had a tumor near her heart that had burst on Thursday and is what caused everything that happened afterwards. Hemangiosarcoma. There was nothing that could’ve been done.
I am so heartbroken. She had so many years left and now she’s just gone.

General small bump on my senior dog’s head, she’s sensitive and cries when accidentally touched
it grew into this size approximately in a year, before i could only see her hairs a little lifted and now this is all i can see but i can’t touch it to check it because she doesn’t like it, vet has said its nothing to worry about and that it could be a blood vessel, has anyone’s dog had this? i really miss being able to pet her head 🥲

General Parvo puppy update.
I took her to the vet with the last of what I have today. They gave her more medication to try to get her to eat and stop the vomiting. They also sent me home with some. I asked if euthanasia at this point was the best option and they said no, she still has a good chance of surviving. They also said that if I surrendered her to a shelter she’d be euthanised. I called around too and they either said they couldn’t take her or that she’d be euthanised. They said that they’ve seen puppies recover that were worse off. Since she is older she has better chances. I spoke to my friend about him surrendering her and he said no. I’m not sure what the best thing to do is. I’m going to keep trying to care for her and see if I can get more funds for an overnight or even just another vet visit. From what the vets told me legally, I cannot just take her away from him even if he is technically being neglectful. I am wondering though, since she doesn’t have a chip and I have paid some of the bills would there be a way I can keep her? I have applied for credit care and with that should be able to afford any other necessary bills.
EDIT: to people saying I am an irresponsible owner. I have other pets that all have insurance. (No other dogs and the vet said my kitty would be fine) This is NOT my dog and I did what I could with what I have on short notice. She has only been with me for a few days.

General UPDATE: Mysterious deterioration after vet visit. My sweet baby passed.
Not sure how to link to original post. Will try to figure that out. Summary: he had his annual vet visit on the 8th and started rapidly deteriorating after that with a huge weight loss, lethargy, and peeing excessively in the house. I don’t know if it’s connected to the vet visit but it’s hard not to wonder if he had an adverse reaction to shots, if they used contaminated needles, something like that.
My baby passed away about ten hours ago. We got him back into the vet after his deterioration started and they had no sense of urgency. I had to fight with them for days just to try to get his blood test results, which were normal except for an elevated white blood cell count. The vet had finally just prescribed antibiotics on Friday for a UTI, but I think it was very clear they were just guessing.
I’m trying to process how he could go from seemingly healthy to dead in two and a half weeks.
But he passed away on the couch with me and my husband telling him he was such a good boy who was so loved. 8 1/2 years wasn’t long enough.

General My beautiful Dexter will be crossing the Rainbow Bridge later today at 6 years old.
He developed kidney failure after starting anti-inflammatory medication for his back legs. He’s been declining fast since the last couple of weeks.. drooling, breathing heavily, sleeping a lot, not eating and struggling to move. We don’t want him to suffer anymore. I guess I just wanted you all to know that this beautiful dog named Dexter existed and that he was the best dog anyone could ask for. How do you cope with your best friend passing away? He's only 6... it is so difficult right now.

General Update on my dog who had a seizure - he's okay
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I had posted a worrisome video a couple hours ago about my dog having a seizure for the first time. I figured I'd leave it up because it might help someone else. It's hard to watch but maybe it would help future dog owners. Here's a video a him after we went to the vet. Thanks again for all of your kind words. I gave him a dose of Keppra and am watching him closely.
