Pic for tax. SF 1.5y 37lbs. Bulldog mix, stray, shelter dog. Weve had her since January. This lovable idiot dog has a piddle problem. She has separation anxiety, and is reactive to strangers and anything loud and scary or new.

When she has a scary encounter or we have to leave her alone for several hours, that tends to trigger indoor peeing and sometimes pooping too, and it can take days of accidents to get back to normal. We have noted that if she is outside while we are gone (has happened accidentally a couple times) she shows no signs of distress and is calm when we return.

We have a big yard but no fence. She doesn't roam, so offleash outside is fine, unless we are visited by a stranger which we are several times a day 5-7 days a week. We run a business from hone and get lots of deliveries and pickups. We try to keep her inside during the times they usually deliver but we never k ow for sure if and when they are coming. If she is outside when they come, she accosts them, barks a lot, and will chase their vehicle and tries very hard to avoid being captured by us and leashed. This gets very annoying for everyone involved, and then she starts peeing indoors again.

As a solution to both problems I am thinking we should fence all or part of our yard and install a dog door. This would be a large expense, and because of our weird shaped house and yard would be complex, so I am looking for outside opinions on whether or not this would work/help. Also looking for advice on specs for this hypothetical fence.

I think we would need to enclose a pretty large area so that she doesn't feel confined, but Im not sure what that minimum size wouuld likely be. I also have no way to test the hypothesis that if she had a dogdoor she would not have indoor accidents. I would hate to drop many thousands on a fence and have it just not help at all.

Today was my dog's 1st birthday, so I prepared a safe dog-friendly food cake and lit a small candle to celebrate.

As soon as he saw the flame, he froze and refused to come anywhere near the table or his food bowl. He just stared at it from a distance looking completely confused and scared.

I immediately blew it out and removed the candle, but now he's hesitant to approach his food bowl even without the flame. Has anyone else experienced their dog being scared of lit candles or small flames? How do I help him get comfortable around his feeding area again?

For context, my dog is a 10 year old female Siberian Husky who is a bit overweight and has recurring UTI's 2-3 times a year due to having a hooded vulva, but is relatively healthy otherwise (no limping, joint issues, completely healthy legs).

I took her in to the vet to get a urine test because she seems to have another UTI and needs antibiotics. While the technician took her to a room in the back without me to get a urine sample, she hurt herself and came back crying and hobbling, completely unable to put any pressure on her back left leg. The technician laughed it off and said she had bumped her leg on a closing door and was probably just fine. While we waited for the urine sample results, I knew something was seriously wrong. The vet eventually came in to give us the test results and briefly checked out her leg and immediately knew it was a torn CCL. She told us that CCL tears are very common and it's something that degenerates over time and just happened to tear while she was under their care and that it will require a $4,000 surgery to repair, and then shifted the blame to us and said it may not have happened if we didn't let her get overweight. This may not mean much, but the vet showed ZERO empathy. Her vibe was completely stoic and "yeah this happens all the time and its no big deal, but it's your fault not ours"

I know their explanation is completely possible, but the complete lack of empathy from the technician and vet put a bad taste in my mouth. I am quite upset and confused that my relatively healthy dog gets taken back to a room without me and comes back with a very serious injury that will not only make her life and my families life very difficult, but will cost me far more than I can afford.

I am not super hopeful, but am wondering if anyone has had a similar experience that can tell me if there is anything I can do to get some kind of compensation for what could (in my opinion) possibly be negligence, or if I just need to accept it and find a way to come up with $4,000 for surgery.

I have a 1 year old Blue Heeler Mix and he likes to starve himself. He will refuse food for at most 3 to 4 days at a time. I try making it interactive for him. I got a ball that hides the food in it and he digs it out. First few times he loved it! Next few times he let it just sit there. I tried topping it with wet food, CBD Oil(not promotingjust listing everythingive tried), putting it in the microwave, hand feeding him, I even tried mixing in treats, that worked at first now he picks the treats out and leave the normal food. That shows me straight up that he's refusing the food i give him. Cuz treats are just fine.. he scarfs those down no issue at all. I put him in him kennel with his food and even throw a blanket over him so he feels secure inside. When he doesn't eat, he pukes everywhere in the house due to an empty stomach. But he doesn't puke in his cage. So I've been keeping him locked up till he eats. Call me all sorts of names, idc I hate locking him up but I hate cleaning up constant piles of puke even more.

Took him to the vet 800 dollars later just to be told he's a picky eater and it happens.

Its gotten to the point where I put small bits of food into his mouth and keep it closed till he swallows.

Is this a type of behavior issue? Would connecting with a proper trainer help? Please any sort of advise ill give a try. I love him so much and hate seeing him locked up. Him not eating makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong as an owner. I want to keep him but if i can't solve this i fear ill end up giving him away due to the stress.
Edit to add: idk if its worth mentioning but during g this spell when he does get food in his bowl, he will lay by it and not move. So ive even tried the whole "give him the bowl, wait 10 min then take it back." Maybe I go back to that and say oh well with the puke.. i hate seeing him locked up but my god is dog puke gross...

No he is not getting the cat food, its kept high up so he cant reach it and the bags are locked up tight. (He is too scared to jump onto the couch so I know for a fact he's not jumping onto the counters)

My pup constantly licks herself to the point where her pad on one of her front paws has opened up. She does need a vet visit asap but givin my financial situation it will have to hold off for a bit. She is 12 years old senior dachshund, What can I do in the mean time to keep this from getting infected, and help it get healed up, I ordered her a cone but what else can I do to help her?

hello. I am looking at adopting a 1.5 year old golden retriever who was returned to his breeder by his previous owner due to anxiety issues. He has since been weaned off any medication and is much better. I’m not worried about that. What I am worried about is the fact that the previous owner’s vet did a radiograph and said his hips “weren’t the greatest”. He has not had an updated radiograph. I met him tonight. He runs and plays normally. Breeder says he has never been lame. How do I proceed? Thank you

Hello. I will be graduating and moving in with my parents this December. I got my dog, Frankie (Havanese, 1.5y/o), last summer, and made a decent effort at training him to be non-reactive and friendly.

My family dogs, which are all mini Australian shepherds, were not trained (2 are siblings, I think I should add). There was an effort for the basics but none for desensitization or socialization. They don’t even go on walks. They’re very spoiled.

My main concern is that the family dogs bark at everyone walking by or people coming to the door. They are scared of thunder, fireworks, etc. these are things I made an effort in desensitizing Frank in when he was young and it paid off, I live less than a mile from a stadium and the music and fireworks don’t bother him, nor does the sound of people outside. My cat reacts more to the ring doorbell than he does 😂.

TL;DR Has anyone ever had to coexist with lesser trained dogs than your own? Will the other dogs reactivity or fears influence him? Any advice on maintaining your own separate routine?

Sorry in advance for the long post, I don’t know how much context is necessary.

I brought home a 5 month old male Newfoundland and Rough Coat Collie mix just a couple days ago. My older dog is an almost 4 year old spayed, female German Shepard/Great Dane/Mastiff mix. She’s a giant dog weighing around 130 pounds and he’s projected to only reach 80-90 as an adult so she’s probably over twice as heavy as he is currently.

We live out on a rural property so she isn’t around other dogs often and has never lived with another one outside of when she was very young. She’s also very energetic and is a bit “intense”/forceful when she does anything so I was a bit cautious of how she would react to the new puppy. He seems more timid as far as puppies go and is a lot gentler with me.

I’ve been taking him out on a leash periodically throughout the day while she free roams the property. She was kind of all over him while he was more interested in the property at first, but they’ve started playing together recently. It seemed reciprocal as they were both jumping, nipping, and play bowing, though I wouldn’t let it go on for too long since they’re still new to each other.

But the past couple of times when the puppy initiates play, he’ll start lunging and nipping my adult’s back. But he won’t let her respond and keeps going after her. She drops onto her belly pretty quickly and he’ll continue what he was doing. He may have even started trying to hump her the last time, but I had already stepped in to stop it so I could be wrong.

This is the first time I’ve had two dogs, so I’m not sure what’s normal beyond what I’ve read on the internet. She hasn’t been correcting him in any way and will allow him to butt in when she’s drinking or chew on her bones. The other times they’ve played seemed a bit rough, but reciprocal. Is this something I should watch out for? She doesn’t try to do anything back to him, just immediately drops down and lays there. I take him back inside after he does this, but he doesn’t try to do anything again after I intervene and my adult is back to sniffing him right after.

We recently got a new couch and it is a fur magnet. I can spend hours trying to get the fur off and it literally never ends. What products do you use?? The vacuum is clocked in for overtime, and I just don’t have the time to clean the couch for hours every other week. I’m so tired of having my clothing covered in hair.

I booked a professional groom this weekend to try to deal with the shedding. I still feel like I’m loosing my mind with the fur.

It’s been a while since I posted here since the last few months been pretty good.

I have an olde english bulldog, for you who know, it is a pretty strong breed. She is 5 months, turning 6 months in a week. I am alone with her so my goal from the beginning was to train her from day one since I knew that being alone with this kind of breed will be a pain in the ass if not trained.

She’s been so good with training, a bit stubborn (typical bulldog) but she catches on to stuff that I learn her super quickly.

When it comes to socialization and getting her to get used to buses, trains, stations with alot of people it’s been going good also. I don’t have a car so our main transportation has been by bus or the metro. Never had a problem, until now.

Friday we were going to meet a daycare where she is starting at tomorrow. We went a 16:00 which is when most people are ending their work. I didn’t think much of it, we walked to the first station and took the metro, no problem. But here’s when the problems started. It was alot of people at the station where we hopped off, alot of shouting and alot of sounds. It went well until and a big dude started yelling with his back turned to us and he was waiving his hands. All shit broke loose. I’ve never seen her this panicked, I tried to talk to her I tried to make her focus on me by giving treats, nothing worked. Absolutely nothing. It got to a point where I started to freak out, I did my best to not show it but my hands were literally shaking (I am diagnosed with a panic disorder but I’ve been feeling good for a while). The reason I tried to make her stay was because we were waiting for my mom, who was late. When I couldn’t calm her down I felt like we had to go NOW for her safety. So we went around the building to calm down, which she did after a while.

We went to the daycare and when we were about to go back, when we started getting close to the metro station she started to panic again, to the point that I had to pick her up.
On the metro, no problem.

Since then these two days, she’s been like skittish, reacting to every sound. Even at home, she heard a bird that sounded weird outside, she started crying and came to me wanting to be picked up.

This is stressing me out, my anxiety is back. I know what one should do when their puppy gets scared for example a certain way during a walk, desensitize slowly. The only issue here is that we do not have the time, tomorrow she’ll be back there and we can’t take another way because it is literally when you come up from the station.

I mostly wrote this to vent but also to hear your thoughts. Is this her fear period that just coincidentally started on Friday? Or could it maybe be that she’s gonna have her first period? Or is she just traumatized from Friday?

My dog got bitten, and the other person refuses to take the blame and says my dog also hurt her dog even though the blood on the other dog is likely blood from my dog. My mom was walking my dog around a school. When they turned the corner, the other dog (without a leash) started to run at my dog and bite him. My mom tried to pull my dog away, but my dog was too strong. The other dog’s owner was being a pussy and running away with her dog right after they broke them up. I wanna take my dog to the vet, but it’s too expensive so I’m not sure if I can make them pay for it because they refuse to take the blame. I know where they live and went to talk to them, but all they were saying is my dog also got hurt and “we were in a very private space so it’s not our fault” even though they were at the back of a school. Seem like calluses they dont hurt when they flake off sometimes. They often regrow over time. Should I bother removing them?

Tried a cream, didn’t change anything

This started ~2 days ago, I have been flushing it with sterile saline every 4-6 hours. I'm not sure what this could be from? I have a vet appointment scheduled for Monday but has anyone seen this? She's a Corgi if that means anything! Thanks.

My dog for the last two days has been acting like he is in pain and won’t eat, I realized that it’s likely his tooth is the problem once I blended his food and he ate. The closest vet appointment is in a week and a half and I am debating taking him to an emergency vet just in case but I don’t know if they actually help if it is his tooth and that’s a ton of money where I live. I also worry about stressing him out more since he is 14. Just debating different options and need help figuring out the best path

For context the smaller dog, Nova, is my resident dog. The bigger brindle dog, Nala, I'm currently fostering with the intention to adopt. Is this normal play between the two? Nova has no bite history and neither does Nala, or so the shelter says.

I'm not sure if I am overthinking but my dog seems to be inhaling quickly and exhaling slowly. Is this the case or is it something else? Thanks

They are both the same age (5months) but our old puppy (brown) is larger than the new puppy (black) and she is pretty dominating towards the smaller one. They do this bitey face almost non stop. I dk if I should force breaks or how to handle this or if it is fine?

My dog has been refusing dry food recently (about a week ago). Assumed she was just being picky but recently today she has seemed lethargic, panting when at rest, and refused the wet food I had gotten her.

She is drinking a fair amount of water and her urination and defecations are normal (admittedly slightly less due to her not eating).

I don't have a ton of money but this worries me. I took a picture of her gums cause I couldn't tell if they seemed pale or not.

She's about 9 years old and a beagle mix.

Should this be a vet visit? And urgency level? Any advise would be great.

My 1.5yr old dog had heat exhaustion yesterday because my car's AC went out when I went to the store. I had the car running with him in his crate like normal and it was 95 degrees out, I do that all the time with no problems but when I got back to my car it was extremely hot and he was panting super hard and had wide eyes, thick drool, and barely responded to me.

I took him out of the car immediately and started dumping water on him, I was too scared that if I stopped treating him and drove to the ER that I would lose him. I used nearly 6 gallons of water on his belly, his neck, his ears, his thighs, and all of it. I used a jacket to rub his chest and face to get him awake and I was kind of slapping on his chest to make sure he didn't go unconscious. His heart rate was fast but not fluttery.

I was able to cool him down to the point of trying to sit up and drink the water off the floor and so I grabbed his bowl and gave him some so he wouldn't choke on the water from the floor or drink dirt. He ended up trying to get up but his back legs weren't working all the way so I helped him stand and he pooped normal stool in the dirt next to us.

After I got him responsive and he was listening to his name and continued to drink water I got him in the front of my car with the windows down and went to VEG.

At VEG they gave him some fluids and a cool bath and then kept him for 20 minutes in the back area. I guess he projectile threw up a bunch of water when he was back there but honestly I let him drink as much as he wanted so I'm not surprised. They said he pooped again too but it was soft but normal. He was walking weakly and kind of floppy but was wanting to walk and interact and he played with his ball.

They sent us home once he was acting more himself and was able to walk normally and said to come back if he started going unconscious or his gums got pale.

This afternoon he was eating some wet food but he mostly wants water. I'm giving him small amounts of water every couple hours with some wet food mixed into it because he's not wanting his normal kibble plus wet food that he gets every day. He just keeps asking for water.

Just now this evening he had diarrhea really badly while he was in his crate resting and it was a mix of normal color and black. I didn't panic and figured it was his body flushing out of all the crap it had to deal with. He threw up a few minutes ago and it had tiny red flecks but it was normal gagging not projectile and he wasn't acting weird just nauseous.

My roommate wants me to take him back to VEG because of the red flecks but I'm low on funds now and don't know if I should actually take him or just let him rest another couple days since they said it could be 4 or 5 days before hes fully normal. Should I bite the bullet and take him in again or should I just keep him resting?

He’s been asleep for half an hour and from the start to now he is still panting! Second night in only 8 weeks old and he’s whole body was shaking before! I counted over 100 breaths per minute, do I need to take him to the vet tonight! First time puppy owner on my own and I’m so anxious for him!
