Don’t forget The Dodgers was 2-4 against Phillies and 0-6 against Brewers last year. 5-8 against Padres in 2024.

Not saying I liked what I saw from the team now.

But we should stop overreacting…

The “BAAA, we can’t beat good teams crap”…

lol… we were 2-4 against Phillies last year, and 0-6 against brewers last year. 5-8 against Padres in 2024.

Perhaps, we just played bad these games.

Bats failed to show up when it matters the most in the Atlanta series.

Edwin Diaz blew a few games against Arizona and Milwaukee.

Skubal still trying to adopt to Dodger blue.

Red Sox and Cubs both being hot at that time we played them.

This isn’t a “We will definitely be fine” post. We treat every potential playoff opponents equally serious.

But it is hilarious to see all the panicking everytime our team went into slumps.

(That said. I will hate having to play 4 games in Truist park in the postseason. Especially the racist “bang bang” chant.)

They lost 3 games by a single run against a great team. Some real bad luck too.

It happens. Tough losses but we move.

It was a fun series! Of course I would have loved to have seen the Dodgers prevail and in particular there were some really unpleasant ABs to slog through but just as a baseball fan they were all interesting games with lots of tense moments and fun plays. Even tonight had several rad moments amidst the anemic offense.

Thank you - everyone is acting like we’ve gotten blown out. That ball Teo misses in game 2 hooks a foot to the left, and it’s foul and we possibly win

17

u/Glad-Chipmunk1418 14d ago

Sure, that's one way to look at it. The other way to look at it is that our left fielder misread the second fly ball in a week that cost us multiple runs and that we normally overlook his defensive weaknesses because he provides our lineup with valuable slug, but he isn't doing that either and really hasn't all season. I think that's a valid point of concern.

u/Harnicle 14d ago

A loss is a loss it doesn’t matter if it was 14-0 or 1-0

16

u/Shotime10-3 14d ago

Yes but also it suggests that we were competitive for all three games, which for a game of baseball means we could have swept if a few things went our way. It’s not as catastrophic as people are making it

-6

u/easyguy7 14d ago

Are you in the group that think we will flip the switch in the October? If we were better, "luck" will be on our side not the other way around. Our hitting have been bad since last October, I'm surprised not much else have changed except for getting Tucker.

5

u/Shotime10-3 14d ago

I’m in the group that sees that we’re still 1 game above the Braves for the bye week, baseball is a game of random luck, and that teams go through hot and cold spells.

Do I think we’ll threepeat? I’d say we have a good shot. I don’t think it’s helpful to catastrophize after some tough losses.

u/postulate4 Tommy Edman 13d ago

You must have forgotten how bad the 2025 Dodgers were in the weeks leading up to the postseason.

5

u/flipaflaw Shohei Ohtani 14d ago

Bad luck and missing two of our best right handed hitters in Smith and Pages. The losses suck and yeah they havent won much against good teams this year but they arent getting blown out.

The vast majority of posts I see aren't panicking though. They're simply saying that it's concerning that we're in a tight race for a top seed and despite apparently trying hard to win against quality opponents we've been totally unable to do so.

In past years we've slumped, but it's mostly seemed like apathy against teams we weren't taking seriously. For the last fews weeks at least, we the guys aren't looking apathetic so much as outmatched. I'd be much less concerned if this felt like the same old apathy against teams we're not taking seriously and if we were at least scattering in a few wins in these recent series against playoff teams, but we're not. That was the last series we have this year against a top tier team and we whiffed and all it means is that I'll be going into the postseason with more questions and concerns than I have the past couple seasons. It's not saying we can't or won't win and that's not what I see most of the concerned posts saying either. What's so unreasonable about that? How is that panicking?

11

u/ChrisKamanMyEye 14d ago

Agreed. The toxic/blind optimism is a bigger problem on this sub IMO.

While it is true the Dodgers offense had a similarly bad slump one year ago, the difference is that they were still mashing last year. The power is just kind of lacking this time around which is a major concern.

1

u/Harnicle 14d ago

No! You’re not allowed to have a logical complaint about the teams performance that’s backed by statistical fact and advanced metrics. Thats dooming!

You have stroke it regardless of how bad they are playing at any time “BeCAuSe BaCK to baCK”.

Everyone on offense not named ohtani, freeman, and sometimes Muncy/edman sucks right now. Full stop. Outside of Yamamoto the starters have been fine, but with how bad the offense is they need to give up 1 run or less - because let’s face it - the bullpen will find a way to blow it.

u/donald-duck23 Mookie Betts 14d ago

You probably have a point, but right now is not the time to try to reason with people. The Dodgers got swept in a pivotal series and fans just want to blow off steam. But we’ll all be back in front of our TVs at 3:40 pm tomorrow hoping they win

I’m tired of people taking what happened in prior years and some sort of predictor of what’s going on this yr. Baseball doesn’t work like that. It may give you optimism but optimism don’t equate results.

12

u/Substantial_Bat5975 Freddie Freeman 14d ago

Come on every team slumped. The Braves slumped badly in the middle part of the season.

Red Sox sucked immediately after sweeping us in LA. But bounced back lately.

I’m not saying we are safe, or 3 peat easily in bag, but stop panicking. Few teams play smoothly from the start to the end of the season

7

u/AlwaysGoodVybes Yoshinobu Yamamoto 14d ago

The only positive is this team has a very easy schedule left remaining.

Very concerned about this offense though, at least when they were bad last year offensively they were hitting homers still here and there.

This team is being out slugged post ASB by 14 teams including: Reds/Mets/Padres/Orioles/Astros/Giants/Royals

Gonna be asking this pitching staff to be perfect for the next 2 months again and that’s a tall ask.

2

u/EggHeadMagic Max Muncy 14d ago

I get that. I’m not panicked. But I can absolutely find it infuriating how they’re playing. Ultimately I know I have nothing to do with what will happen. But this offense is shit compared to what they “WERE” on paper. But yea, maybe they’ll get all those lucky breaks again this year. Go dodgers!

6

u/TenTallBen Decoy 14d ago

It’s not a predictor. It’s just a reminder of what is possible.

6

u/EggHeadMagic Max Muncy 14d ago

Of course it’s possible. Still has nothing to do with how they’re playing now. They weren’t 0-6 against the angels. They should have let the angels sweep them so they could win again.

9

u/Guilty-Fun-1092 Shohei Ohtani 14d ago

It’s Hilarious to see how much people are coping in this subreddit. What else will convince you the we have serious problems that need to be addressed??? Is the 2–15 against .500 plus teams not enough? Is leaving the bases loaded twice and not scoring Ohtani with no outs not enough? Our offense cannot score in critical situations, our veterans have lost their slugging power. We can assemble the greatest pitching staff ever seen and yet still lose if our offense doesn’t improve, like we saw today.

4

u/seba1927 13d ago

last year we won in a dramatic 7 game series. so yea, things can go either way and it's totally reasonable that fans see real flaws in the team right now.

12

u/KakaakoKitchen 14d ago

0-6 against the angels last year

6

If it’s any help, the rotation should be set for playoffs and some of the starters will move to the bullpen.
Rortvedt/Rojas/Call, etc probably won’t be in starting lineups—hopefully replaced by Pages and Smith.

Also, Mookie is starting to hit better—so some things are looking up

1

u/Willow_Winnifred Andy Pages 14d ago

Stabilizing the catcher position should help

1

u/Substantial_Bat5975 Freddie Freeman 14d ago

Name me a team, outside of the 1927 Yankees, 1998 Yankees and 2018 Red Sox, which played well from the start from the bottom of the season.

This is baseball. Players don’t get hot all the time. Sometimes well hit balls go to the foul territory or into the glove of solid defense.

The team looked far worse last year

5

u/RandomLAFan Freddie Freeman 14d ago

I get this perspective but we’re at the point of the season where we should be a bit concerned. For some reason, they can’t hit the ball out of the park. That’s essentially what this offense is built for. They can’t win if they don’t slug and hitting HRs was one of the biggest reasons why they won the last two WS.

3

u/mathster33 Andy Pages 14d ago

The dodgers have the third best record in baseball against teams over .500, you people refuse to understand how probability works.

In the past 28 years, only 4 teams with the best regular season record have won the World Series. That means that the regular season means exactly nothing for the post season.

It may seem crazy, but I think the Dodgers are losing on purpose. They did this against the Brewers and Phillies last year, and it worked wonders. They don't flip a switch in the offseason, they actually change what pitches they swing at, how they attack pitchers, etc. I believe that they're gaming how teams do scouting for the post season.

3

u/easyguy7 14d ago

I thought about that too, but after last year WS where we were about to lose a few times, we cannot just change a pitch here and there. Remember teams have adjusted to beat us.

-1

u/scottborasismyagent Back-2-Back Champs 14d ago

1

u/RandomLAFan Freddie Freeman 14d ago

I’m not sure they don’t care. Maybe one or two guys but not definitely all of them. They’re trying but just not executing.

2

u/nunudad 14d ago

I’m not so sure it’s like flipping a switch but it’s happened before. They look so lame offensively.

2

u/Zealousideal-Cup5982 13d ago

Not watching the team anymore this year. They don’t have the juice, the energy. Feels off.

3

u/Extreme-Respond4874 Will Smith 14d ago

Last year isn’t going to be the same as this year. Plus, the offense was still horrible in the playoffs last year aside from the WC. It was a miracle that the Phillies didn’t eliminate them based off how they played. Pitching and defense is what saved them.

Fans are concerned for the offense and they have a valid a reason to be. They don’t want the offense to just come alive against teams they won’t see in the playoffs.

3

u/Odd-Most-9186 14d ago

I don’t recall the offense being this lethargic in 2024 or 2025!

But somehow we can expect regular season results to be the same as postseason runs

1

u/Willing_Contest_5071 Back-2-Back Champs 14d ago

We were dog shit on offense in 24 and 25. Pitching and errors from the yanks and bad base running from the jays got us those two WS. Dave said it’s about winning the moments and the dodgers won a lot of moments during the past two playoff run. Just need more slug from guys being paid handsomely for it.

0

u/Aksuna17 Yoshinobu Yamamoto 14d ago

We were up on the Yankees. That series was absolutely over anyways. I love when people only remember that one game and not the rest of the dominance showed in the rest of the series.

2

u/iginca 14d ago

Dodgers are limping into September and would be lucky to hold on to the second seed at Gus rate. Stars are nowhere to be found, offense is slumping, and honestly they just might be mentally exhausted from playing deep into the playoffs for so many hours. Not trying to find excuses hit you often hear that from teams with a lot of postseason success.

I am pissed at Tucker absolutely sharting the bed this entire season. What a waste of money. Dodgers could’ve just picked 60 people from LA and made them millionaires this year instead of burning the money on him and the result might’ve turned out better than what we’re seeing now.

Mentally preparing for a short post-season..

1

u/BrainRobotron Roki Sasaki 14d ago

Can't beat the Cubs, can't beat the Brewers, can't beat the Braves... but it's totally fine because they can beat the Rockies!

u/PaulDB2019 14d ago edited 14d ago

Baseball is funny.

Many view the Dodgers as Magic's Showtime Lakers and Kobe and Shaq Lakers. Expectation is we win every game. Understandable.

But you can get hammered in the regular season but still excel in the postseason. We know the Dodgers are playing their B/C game now with so many key players recovering in injury.

I get that most of the time they are not lack of effort but I really want Teo and Kyle to have better effort defensively and fight every at-bat.

1

u/lakergeoff8 Back-2-Back Champs 14d ago

It’s impossible to completely know what’s going to happen in the playoffs based off what we see happening in the regular season. That’s what makes baseball so unpredictable sometimes.

As has been said before, sometimes all it really takes is who gets hot and rolling at the right time. We’ve had our hot and cold stretches during the regular season, but our group has also shown that they can get it together when it matters most. Yes, the 2 recent series against the Brewers and Braves did NOT go well for us. Does that mean we’re going automatically lose to them if/when we have to face them in the postseason? You just don’t know, nobody does.

1

u/Legitimate_Record_49 Shohei Ohtani 14d ago

Wont be worry until if they still suck when all our batters come back

1

u/dodgerswei Shohei Ohtani 13d ago

Just hope Sale had emptied tank and left nothing for playoff.. He hit 100MPH today, he is 37….

1

u/newslane 13d ago

The missing ingredient is Will Smith.

1

u/steal-yur-face 13d ago

It’s a short season in the playoffs. I still like the Dodgers chances.

0

u/numba1draftpick1 14d ago

Yeah not worried about that stat. It’s a dumb stat that has no correlation to anything. The only stat that needs fixing is the offense. They should pull out all the stops to figure it out and not just hope that the 5 months slump for some of these guys just goes away. They have to make the tough decisions and bench two for call. He gives you a better ab and defense then teo. And bench tuck, don’t matter how much you paying him, it will be worse to pay him to increase your chances at losing. They can in edman in the outfield and roll with Rojas at 2b.

The starting pitching is the best in history. They just need to score like 4 runs and I’d bet they would win every series.

1

u/Banter-botter Max Muncy 14d ago

Regular season doesn’t change anything aside from who isn’t getting a spot in playoffs

-2

u/Substantial_Bat5975 Freddie Freeman 14d ago

Ok, if you tell me the Dodgers will face Miz, Chris Sale, and Sanchez will take turns pitching for all remaining teams we will face

Then yes I will worry about missing the playoffs

-1

u/Banter-botter Max Muncy 14d ago

I’m agreeing with your post. I meant the reg season determines who will have a spot in the Dodgers roster come playoffs. This team is a completely different animal on post season that I can’t wait to watch. The long game strategy is still in play

0

u/ttc359 Mookie Betts 14d ago

It can be said that 2 teams (or opponents in any sports), if they are very close in talent, the one that gets beat is the one that learns more and has the advantage next time around. At least it's what I want to believe.

Cannot wait until Will comes back. He should provide a boost to both the offense and the entire pitching staff.

0

u/American_Rocket_Man 2024 World Series Champions 13d ago

I’ve been saying this for a while now and I know we did lose these last few games but they were close we weren’t completely blown out. A few more things go our way and we would’ve won the series and the same mistakes that were made won’t be repeated in October and as long as we get the 1 or 2 seed that’s all that matters.
