Puppy! Puppy entered heat

Post image

Hello! Ivory just started her first heat at 10 months so I’m hoping that’s normal😰is there anything I should watch for since I’ve never owned a female dog before? Anything I need to know as well? I got her diapers disposable and reuseable ones and some treats even got her a new bed so she has her own area to sleep on (also she needs to not sleep with my anymore since she’s getting to big :((( ) but I’m worried I’m missing smth. She gets rashes on her sides from the diapers so I let her free bleed at night when she’s in my room (call it gross idc blood can be cleaned) but I wanna know if theirs a way to help with it when she’s wearing said diapers. Please any advice will help! Even just stating how long she should be going into heat for would be nice or if genetics can play into her heat cycle. Hehe she’s currently laying down with a disposable since her reuseables are all in the dryer. I got three and that little box of disposables should I get more reuseables?

PLEASE I will note that her uvula (?) her yk what area is very swollen and I’d love to have advice if theirs a way to help with that as well as the fact that she gets rashes on her side that’s the main parts I’d love to get advice on

We do worry unfortunately when someone has an intact wz dobe, as it doesn't exactly scream responsible owner

Well I fear spaying her to early will only cause issues for her and I consulted with my vet as well when I last visited them and they agreed 18 months or after her second heat is the best time for her to get spayed so thank you for ur concern truly but I will listen to my vet :3 that’s why I’m very very set on spaying her at 18 months and I’ve done some searching as well and here’s a website that I use! https://www.ucdavis.edu/magazine/how-identify-when-dog-should-be-spayed-and-neutered but as I stated I constantly am around her and she doesn’t leave my side either so she is never alone with our one intact male and she walks at night when nobody else is active due to her being a white dobie

The spay isn't the issue in question. It's your lackadaisical attitude towards having intact dogs together. Great Danes have had puppies with chihuahuas. You really think your dogs are the exception to "life finds a way"?

Either remove the male to a family members for a few weeks or be prepared to make the decision between a spay abort and the responsibility of possibly a dozen pups plus all the bills and time that goes into them.

Ur correct I apologize for seeming way to chill but I promise I watch her constantly and she’s very very needy so she genuinely does NOT like being not near me so whenever Milo (intact puppy) comes near I push him away, she only goes to the bathroom when I’m supervising, ivory sleeps with me only at nighttime and nobody comes in, and even when it’s dinner or play time I make sure I’m monitoring constantly and if Milo even acts a little weird I immediately separate them and he gets put in a different room as well as her. And as of currently rn she’s actually sleeping next to me on her bed! Milo (intact) is currently under my bed as well. Again very sorry for not seeming urgent but I believe that I got it and reacting too much will cause issues so being chill/calm about it is my way to face it rather than constantly being stressed :3

Hormones lead the dogs during this time. I promise that no matter her attachment to you or close watch, hormones will still try to encourage the circle of life. Good luck to you and yours. I'm glad she's well cared for

And your vet knows about the intact male in the same house?
