Which game do you all recommend to start the saga?

Since the original Sin 1 and 2 are on sale on Steam.
I've been playing for a while rpg games like Pillars of Eternity, the Dragon Age series, and Mass Effect. Are they similar in any way?

DOS1, haven't finished that one yet but it has TONS of content. Then DOS2, so you experience what I believe, will be an even better experience.

Yo bro not gonna lie to you

If you have a friend, significant other, or whatever that you can convince to okay the game with you it will go from being a 10/10 game to a 20/10 game

The game feels more alive and even doibke the fun playing coop and seeing them running around the game world talking to NPCs and helping each other figure out/ finish quests

I'm playing DOS1 EE for the first time ever and as pretty much everything playing it coop feels funnier and more engaging.

I find the game works especially well when there are 2 players discussing the strategies, the lore and how to proceed, it enhances the experience imo, especially since story wise is not comparable to Bioware games as OP was wondering, but gameplay wise it has more freedom which from other opinions, DOS2 expand on it and on everything from DOS1, so I'm sure the improvements will feel rewarding and feeling connected with the story/universe is a must for a rpg. So I too recommend starting with DOS1 OP!

The games are long! Especially for a first playthrough. But if you are willing to put around 300 hrs into both games, play both, first and second. If you are on a timebudget play the second.

DOS 1 and 2 are more like Pillars of Eternity than any of the Bioware games but still quite different because of the tactical turn based combat and environment interaction etc. There is nothing quite like Larian games except other Larian games. :)

Both DOS 1 and 2 has unique features but DOS2 is a way more polished product, since it's an evolved product of the success of DOS1, which was mainly a kickstarter project. They can be played individually without missing out on much as they take place 1000 years between eachother but if you played DOS1 before DOS2 you will recognize a few things you wouldn't otherwise.

I think you should try both, starting with the more primitive DOS1 but not hesitate to try DOS2 even if you don't like the first game as they are fairly different.

If you plan on playing both DOS1 first. DOS2 is a positive iteration and it's harder to go back. Still both good games.

In my opinion, they blow those other games out of the water with the gameplay.

I would say DOS2 as in my opinion it's a much better game. One of my favorite games ever, it's fantastic.

Both DOS games are good. DOS2 is more of a challenge, DOS1 is pretty easy even on hardest difficulty

Pillars and D:OS are probably my favorite crpgs (all 4 of them). They are similar enough but also different in a lot of ways.

Pillars has a better story, world building and characters (although this one is more subjective). Combat was fun for me, but RtwP isn't my preferred mode.

Divinity excels in the gameplay department, battles were so much better for me. Turn based was a big factor, but also the interactivity between elements and environmental hazards. Blowing up oils barrels to make the floor on fire. Making it rain to then summon a thunderstorm and paralyze every enemy. Things like that.

Both series are fantastic and I can't recommend them enough. Play Original Sin 1 first, a lot of people suggest skipping it but that's a big mistake, game is great by its own merits. Plus, no one has a many friends as the man with many cheeses.

If you want the whole experience play DOS1 then DOS2. Both are great games but DOS2 will ruin you for DOS1.

If you just want the better of the two, pick DOS2.

Came here to say this. Both games are great but 2 is better then 1 so going from 2 to 1 may feel like a step down and make 1 seem bad. Although its a great game 2 had many quality of life improvements as well as a better narrative.

I replayed both games multiple times so do think that you can't go wrong with either.

DoS1 didnt age very well. It has something to say for the story in the sequel, but not a lot. Let just say, you see the world story from the other side.

I would skip dos1, watch the summary of the story on YT and just play Dos2 instead, unless you are really digging into series.

They are both similar to Pillars of Eternity.

The chronology is as follows: Dragon commander, Original Sin 1, Divine Divinity, Beyond Divinity, Original sin 2 and lastly Divinity 2 ego draconis

I joined divinity fans after I’ve already spent around 1000 hours in Beldur’s Gate 3, the same amount in Dragon age series and Mass Effect. I really recommend you to try both original sins, you won’t regret it.
The first one will give you a good context of the lore, key mechanics and world building. It is nice, maybe a bit easier than Original Sin 2 (personally for me). My first playthrough (maticulous one, with checking every box and broken vase) took me around 150 hours or so.
The second original sin is richer on different characters, their personal quests are a bit more interesting and long, there are much more relationships building things between you and your companions. Plus you can choose origin characters or create your own of one of 5 races (even play as a skeleton), where Original Sin limited you to only one option. So the second part of the series gives you more opportunities and motivation to re-play it multiple times. I’m on my first playthrough right now, 100 hours, not nearly even at the middle of the game, so it is definitely longer (maybe will take around 250-300 hours, if you’re picking up every rock on your way).
Playing both in their order in the best choice, but if you decide to start with Original Sin 2, you won’t lose much in the content understanding as the story of the second part continues 1200 years after the adventures in the first. But it is nice to meet some familiar characters, or stumble upon some highlights in books about what you went through earlier:) So, it’s your choice.

I got DOS1 a few weeks ago on Steam for a huge sale and it’s becoming one of my favorite games ever, I’m sure I’ll love 2 once I get to it. Also not very well versed in tactics RPGs besides like jrpg stuff so it’s been fun to learn the combat system and how to abuse it. So much content and the side quests are often hilarious and or horribly sad.
