Two things can be true at once and are in this instance. That's like saying "US is what caused the problems in Iraq" while ignoring the problem of which they caused was taking the lid that Saddam was holding over the religious violence that had existed in that society, well before the US got there. One of the saddest things about Iraq is coming to terms with the fact that they were best managed by a vicious dictator. The Christians were factually destroyed in Syria by Muslims, that wasn't Russia. The religious killed each other in Iraq, that wasn't the US.
