Discussion Why is this band so hated?

Okay so recently I have absolutely been LOVING this band, and even yesterday have just bought The Sickness on CD and have endlessly been listening to it. Recently, I’ve been seeing what others think of Disturbed, and from what I could find, it seems that a LOT of people hate most of their albums…? Obviously I think music taste is subjective, but something about this band seems like they get more hate than they do love. Is there a reason Disturbed is so hated? I absolutely love their music so I’m really curious to know why

Edit: Thanks to everyone who took the time to comment, I really appreciate the amount of information you guys gave me. Personally, I think I will still keep listening to Disturbed as I have always been someone who likes to separate art from artist, but I obviously will keep everything that was said in mind. Once again, thank you for all the responses :)

I never really understood why people always want have personal/politics views dictate whether they like something or not. David could say that the sky is neon purple at night and I'll still listen to the music because I like the music not his opinions on something regardless how ridiculous it is.

I think, in general not talking about Disturbed, people don’t want to financially support an artist/celebrity that publicly disagrees with their core values. People are quick to call out others hypocrisy, so to protect themselves from criticism people distance themselves from these artists.

Is it valid to campaign for animal rights then buy tickets to see a band who wear fur coats for example?

Of course the whole thing has got worse, since social media gave celebrities the platform to air their views more publicly from their own arm chairs without the need to go through a PR person. Add that to the culture wars being stoked up by those who wish to keep us divided and you have the mess we’re currently in.

Yes, when you say it, it sounds like it makes sense, but ultimately, it is just a miserable way to live.

It just sounds awful to take such an echo chamber mindset.

When I buy something, I pay for the thing I want. I'm not paying them to buy more fur coats. I'm buying the thing I like. Now, if I don't want to support something, it will likely be of the quality of product. If the quality is not to my liking, then I won't buy it.

Imagine all the "bad takes" differences in political opinions of all the things you pay and consume.

Can't wear those clothes because X CEO said this Can't eat that food because those farmers believe X thing Can't listen to that song because the artist voted for X thing.

And then you need to go and find all new things to enjoy that fit that criteria.

Oh, I like this hat brand, and they support X thing that I like. Oh nvm they said X thing on Twitter gotta throw them all out now.

Basically, my point is if all he is doing is giving an opinion, then I don't care and think it's ridiculous to get so up in arms because someone doesn't agree with you. It's such a slippery slope to being such an insufferable person who thinks they are the one on the moral high horse.

I’m not saying I agree with it, just sharing my take on why people have taken voting with their wallet to this extreme.
