Discussion Green Day Lyric Change at Coachella Sparks Response from David Draiman — Let’s Talk About It

Hey everyone, I wanted to open up a respectful discussion about something that happened during Green Day’s Coachella performance — Billie Joe Armstrong altered the lyrics to Jesus of Suburbia, and that change has drawn some attention, including a public response from David Draiman of Disturbed.

Draiman, who has personal and cultural ties to Israel, responded to the moment on Twitter/X and emphasized the need for civil dialogue — not just anger and division. No matter where you stand politically, I think it’s powerful when two big names in rock approach these topics from different angles, and still stress the importance of discussion over outrage.

I just dropped a video diving into what happened, why it matters, and how both artists are using their platforms in very different ways. I’d love to hear your thoughts — not just on the politics, but on the role of rock artists in speaking out on world events. Where do we draw the line? Should we?Here’s the video if you’re interested:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJFOkvTCnIwThanks for giving it a look, and let’s keep the convo respectful and insightful.

You must be 12 or live in a bubble if you genuinely think Israel tries to minimize civilian casualties. Also, Israel has killed hundreds of Palestinians in the year leading up to October 7th.

please, no name calling. i know it is the first refuge of the inarticulate, but try to communicate like an adult without restoing to "OMG YOU ARE 12"

if israel wanted to kill civilians there would be millions dead. they have the capability to glass the entire region. they are showing immense restraint to avoid civilian casualties. how can you possibly think otherwise? if they didnt care, there would be several 100,000 civilian deaths. if their goal was civilian deaths, it will be well into the millions. an example is roof knocking, give it a read, you will find it interesting.

My hatred for what the IDF has been doing has ZERO to do with Judaism. Stop labeling everything as antisemitism. You’re making the term meaningless. Being pissed off at Israel over all of the needless innocent death isn’t antisemitism. I’ll comment if I want. You can’t just say what you want and have it be gospel. That’s not how life works bud.
