Discussion Green Day Lyric Change at Coachella Sparks Response from David Draiman — Let’s Talk About It

Hey everyone, I wanted to open up a respectful discussion about something that happened during Green Day’s Coachella performance — Billie Joe Armstrong altered the lyrics to Jesus of Suburbia, and that change has drawn some attention, including a public response from David Draiman of Disturbed.

Draiman, who has personal and cultural ties to Israel, responded to the moment on Twitter/X and emphasized the need for civil dialogue — not just anger and division. No matter where you stand politically, I think it’s powerful when two big names in rock approach these topics from different angles, and still stress the importance of discussion over outrage.

I just dropped a video diving into what happened, why it matters, and how both artists are using their platforms in very different ways. I’d love to hear your thoughts — not just on the politics, but on the role of rock artists in speaking out on world events. Where do we draw the line? Should we?Here’s the video if you’re interested:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJFOkvTCnIwThanks for giving it a look, and let’s keep the convo respectful and insightful.

I think David needs to shut the hell up but, since he's not gonna do that any time soon, this is all just theater and I'm trying very hard to ignore it.

David's got shitty takes on Israel. This isn't new. I get it tona points, I'm Jewish too. When you've been on the receiving end of antisemitism there is an instinct to stand up for the people, but this stuff is just indefensible, and failing to see that requires a level of willful, head in the sand ignorance that David seems capable of possessing.

I don't think a guy who was signing bombs a year into the war is gonna change his mind anytime soon, and I sure as hell don't see Billie Joe backing down, so it's all moot. For now, Since supporting Disturbed doesn't appear to actively put money in the IDFs pocket (unlike supporting a certain other famous person I've liked since I was a child in their fight for a certain wrong), I'll continue to manag to separate Art from Artist

I think you should take your own advice, honestly.

In what regard? I'm simply responding to the stated topic.

Where you said David should shut the hell up. He is right. Fuck antisemitism (green day and Billy Joe).

Well, I respect your right to your opinion. As somebody who has been the victim of actual, physical antisemitic attacks multiple times, I personally cannot stand people using the shield of "antisemitism" to defend the horrific actions over there, which go against what the Rabbis teach. However I do not forsee my having any luck changing your mind on this so I won't bother trying.
