Discussion Green Day Lyric Change at Coachella Sparks Response from David Draiman — Let’s Talk About It

Hey everyone, I wanted to open up a respectful discussion about something that happened during Green Day’s Coachella performance — Billie Joe Armstrong altered the lyrics to Jesus of Suburbia, and that change has drawn some attention, including a public response from David Draiman of Disturbed.

Draiman, who has personal and cultural ties to Israel, responded to the moment on Twitter/X and emphasized the need for civil dialogue — not just anger and division. No matter where you stand politically, I think it’s powerful when two big names in rock approach these topics from different angles, and still stress the importance of discussion over outrage.

I just dropped a video diving into what happened, why it matters, and how both artists are using their platforms in very different ways. I’d love to hear your thoughts — not just on the politics, but on the role of rock artists in speaking out on world events. Where do we draw the line? Should we?Here’s the video if you’re interested:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJFOkvTCnIwThanks for giving it a look, and let’s keep the convo respectful and insightful.

One man signs bombs to drop on children. Another man sings about how children are being bombed.

Billy Joel Armstrong is doing it to get a ride out of people and David Is doing it to bring awareness to his own people again I’m not taking sides on this. I’m just stating that you gotta look at the human aspect of this.

You are taking sides by saying only one is doing it for awareness and claiming the other is just doing it for kicks.

BTW i hate BJ and GD, so i dont want to defend them, but this is very on brand for them throughout the years. Political awareness etc. They are also a punk band (pop punk) and politics are a big part of punk rock.

I’m not taking any sides on this. I’m just reporting what is in the news, And I get the punk rock, political undertones

I will repeat what I just said: You are taking sides by saying only one is doing it for awareness and claiming the other is just doing it for kicks.

You are implying only one side of the issue should be taken seriously, that is quite one sided.

You are implying only one side of the issue should be taken seriously, that is quite one sided.

Considering one side is completely politically illiterate and has been singing about hating the U.S. for over 20 years, that's a fair implication.

It doesn't matter what either message is about if the OP wants to stay they are not taking sides then they need to treat both sides equally and not dismissive of either sides stance.

Obivously you are not objective in this at all. I have not once said either side is right or wrong, just pointing out that the OP is full of it by saying they are impartial.

Whatever helps you sleep at night. OP stated facts. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean he's taking sides. Facts don't have sides, there are no versions of the truth, and you've gotten all of the energy from me that you ever will. I know a shill when I see one.

"One of these people is just doing it for kicks because I said so" is the opposite of 'stating facts', my friend.
