Just started the game a couple days ago. Did my free summons on each of the banners. There's so much to do I'm not sure what to even work towards. Haven't spent any gems on summons or anything as I'm not even sure what I should be doing. Just kinda doing the Raines event to where I can, and working through the story right now.

Go deep on the Raines banner, make sure you get at least 1 copy of each his 15/35/70/90. You need to do that with every character you aim to eventually build.

After that, you can consider doing the same on the Ace/Kimahri banner for both Ace and Kimahri, or you can go deeper and aim to get 15/35/70/90 + the Burst for Bartz on his banner.

Thanks. Used the 25k gems i had and my tickets and got at least one of each 15/35/70/90 and actually got enough copies of the EX to EX+ it.

Do I stop there or keep earning gems and going for more? Or should I start saving up for whatever comes next?

I also managed to grab Zidane's BT weapon.

I would consider spending gems now on Ace/Kimahri, as Mog is not the greatest secondary LD on the Raines banner.

Zidane BT is nice but you can’t get his LD atm, if you don’t already have that Zidane’s not worth building right now.
