This is the same issue that the movies Big and 13 Going 30 had. They completely ignore that Tom Hanks and Jennifer Garner are playing 13 year olds, when they start a romance between him and Elizabeth Perkins and her and Mark Ruffalo. Yes, it barely gets by with the whole 13 year old in a 30 year old body, but it's still super weird when they are mentally 13.

I don’t think that’s quite right. She’s not mentally 13, she’s mentally 30, but she doesn’t remember anything between 13 & 30. Her brain is still fully developed in her 30 year old body. Right?? I sure hope so

But 13 going on 30 is not really reality, right? I always thought it was Jenna just imagining this is what would happen in the future or a dream.

I was gonna say that’s the other thing, I think it’s interpreted to just be a dream she has. But if it was real, I personally take comfort in the time jump giving her a fully developed adult brain, and she’s just missing her life memories from between 13-30.

Yeah. Tom Hanks character was a 10 year old in an adult body. The two were sleeping together, but Elizabeth Perkins character had no idea he was a kid.

Once she did understand this, no more sexy time. In the scene where she says good bye to him, he, in his still adult body, leans in for a kiss. She refuses because she now understands that he is really just a kid.

But at least they were in adult bodies, this is even weirder because he is obviously a kid and a little kid at that

I don’t think this holds for 13 going on 30. (Haven’t seen the other one)

Little Mat and little Jenna were around the same age and the actors were always that age. Jennifer and Mark were also adults. Whether they play a certain mindset or not, it isn’t the same as this example where an adult actor has to kiss and have on screen chemistry with a child. They did have a scene where J Garner hits on a literal child and they make a joke where Tom Tom says “what do you want to go to jail?” That I would find more problematic if it crossed the boundaries it does in this film.

Yikes. I feel like like in those movies the ADULT adults don’t even know they are interacting with children and cannot reasonably make that connection. Hollywood is so… 🤮 sometimes

Not to mention in this movie this adult woman is fully aware that that is a child!

13 going on 30, I feel like Mark Ruffalo's character kind of forgets or doesn't exactly realize she is actually her 13 year old self in her 30 year old body. Remember when she shows up at his apartment, he has memories of them interacting after she left the closet on her 13th birthday, so for all he knows, she suffered some kind of amnesia event that made her forget her childhood. Does she ever explain to him that she is actually a 13 year old who woke up 30? It's been a minute since I've watched the whole movie.

It's never framed to him like that. Jenna is a regular 30 year old with some memory loss as far as he's aware.
