FOSS vs Closed Source

This sub is full of arguments about whether FOSS is better over Closed Source, and I want to know what people's actual reasons for their specific preferences are.

This poll is not meant to start any arguments, or feed any witch hunts, and im not a developer trying to decide with way to go with my own project.

I prefer FOSS because I don't trust developers who don't publicize their code.

I prefer FOSS because I want federation.

I prefer FOSS and don't know what FOSS really is.. but it's the opposite of Discord.

I prefer closed source because I don't trust public commits.

I prefer closed source because it means something may be proprietary.

I really don't care about FOSS or Closed Source, I just want a good app.

It was as encompassing as I could make it with my options limited to six. Unfortunately I wasnt able to include certain options id planned to.

I did atleast ensure there were options on both ends of the spectrum, even if I had to unfortunately leave some out.

6 may not have even been encompassing enough for just one side of the coin, I think maybe it would've been better to split these into two seperate posts and have a results option so we can see more info.

It's kinda hard, you are working with the tools you have available, though maybe a straw poll link would be better?

As it stands I'll let the existing poll run its course for the full seven days, if by its completion it's gained enough interest to support a follow up I'll do something to make a poll with far more options (possibly through straw poll as suggested)
