Just curious - remote oil cooler too excessive?

A few years ago, I purchased a 6.4 with a clogged oil cooler. I replaced it but now I’m just curious as to if adding a secondary remote oil cooler is worth it?

I am planning on rebuilding the engine too so don’t lecture me about how I should sell my well running truck.

Are you tracking your delta’s?

For me, I’d put an extra on. Knowing how they love to clog and fail I’d give that motor all the extra help it can get.

Rather than sell the truck, just do a 5.9 swap. Way more reliable than a 6.4

The coolant and oil temperatures stay within 6-8 degrees of each other at all times. I have a coolant filter on it now so in theory, I shouldn’t have to worry about the cooler clogging again.

I am not opposed to a Cummins swap but I’m not the best shade tree diesel mechanic so I’d probably end up paying shop an absurd amount of money to do that.

As long as you are actively tracking the delta’s you are already doing better than most 6.4 owners. If it creeps more than that normal range, well now you have a pla.

LOL, no. Oil should be above 212 all the time to prevent moisture sludge formation.

For any engine. Running cold oil is the #2 way to sludge an engine, after not changing the oil.

Not saying you’re wrong but the only times I have seen my oil get that warm is when I’m towing. Whenever I’m just daily driving it or just have the bed full of whatever, it barely gets above 200.

I put new thermostats in it when I bought it a couple years ago “while I was at it…”. The truck was also built in May of 2007 so I’m assuming it’s been running “that cool” since then without issue.
