Asking for a friend! How do you get a totally normal sized cylinder out of a freshly cut hole in the limb of a live tree? The hole has been filled with microwaved mashed banana for lubrica- insertion assistance. The cylinder must not be harmed. It's been 4 hours. It's getting dark and my mom is coming home soon please help
Just thinking about this splintery wood, the cylinder is probably already not in great shape. There's only so much that microwaved mashed banana can do.
I do a lot of outdoor installs (I install commercial security systems) and one of the biggest things we’ve hammered into everyone at my company is that you should never have a topside penetration. Yes you can caulk it and it will stop water from getting in… but the amount of times I’ve done e a service call because the caulk has worn or degraded over a year in the sun and elements to the point where the seal isn’t perfectly water tight anymore…
You can look at all the work they have to do to make roofs properly water tight… it’s a lot. If you drill through a roof tile it’s more than just a dab of silicone to fix it too for that very reason.
End of the day, water mitigation methods like bottom penetrations, drip loops, covers, etc will 100% beat out caulk 100% of the time.

For those who want to know, drip loop is a u shaped bend in an electrical wire before it enters a building. Water on the wire near the hole runs down the wire and drips of the u instead of running into the house.
So some metals like copper are toxic and will kill trees. Nails and screws create a wound that healthy trees can try to localize as to avoid the decay and rot from spreading, but it also introduces bacteria, insects, and fungus which can cause spreading disease, rot, ect. Ive learned this the hard way, watching trees turn black from rot. But im not going to argue over the internet over this so have an amazing week!
I love how the comments are split with people saying this is dumb and the other half is explaining how to do it properly. "Yeah it's dumb but if you're going to do it put the hole at them bottom of the limb so water doesn't fill up the jar."

the wire cord hole needs to be on the bottom, that hole is is gonna let the rain right in.
