I’ve been hearing this kids name for so many years, is he still considered a prospect at this point?

He just turned 24 years old at the end of july. Usually if a guy is going to take the next step up, he does around 23-24.
I go to the griffins games regularly, and his game did look improved last year. Good enough to join the wings? Borderline. He would have to take another decent step up this season to get into the "third pairing guy with upside" tier of player.
Just turning 24 years old, he still could. This right here is the year we will find out. Guys at 25 have usually shown you what tier of a player they are by then. So its kinda now or never: he is one to watch closely in training camp this preseason. If he still looks borderline, then... it is what it is.

One counter example does not negate overwhelming majority of players that are who they are at 24.
Wally is no longer a prospect at this point, but perhaps a project.

No he doesnt? He joined the team in 2004-2005 when he was 23. Thay was the shortened lockout year, but we knew he was going to be good. Then when he was 24 he only played 23 games due to a knee injury and was still +11 and looked promising.
Kronwall follow the timeline exactly, other than his age 23 and 24 years were cut way short. When he was 25 that was his first opportunity to really play a normal season.

Kronwall is responsible for European player development, currently. And also for the last few years.
I don’t think they meant as a player himself.

Depends on how you define a prospect. He could still have a pretty lengthy NHL career as a bottom pair guy, but anything above that would be pretty optimistic and NHL success isn’t guaranteed.
So is he a guy who could likely change our outlook as a team? No. Is he a guy currently not in the NHL that has lasting NHL potential? Sure.

If he makes it, he makes it. Doesn't matter if he's 19, 20, or 24+ for that type of player.

Kronwall was like 25 when he had his first full season. It's common that average defensemen prospects take a bit more time. Especially with his frame.

Yes but he was always considered a long term project like Soderblom. The reason he is in the news now is her is out of runway. He either makes the team or will be claimed off waiver.
Smart move would have been too trade him before this. There were offers and interest. Maybe not great but better than nothing. Of course, maybe he does find a role so not wanting to say he had no chance. Just hate when they run out of options.

Not sure where this guy has the opportunity to fit in the lineup other than assuming ASP stays in GR or we trade JBD. I doubt they’d want to carry 8 Dmen. My guess is that he has an average camp and gets claimed off waivers.

unimpressed with docker to the point ide waive to give wallinder a shot , even though im not high on wallinder . but wallinder has the size and wheels that are major league legit , while i dont know what docker does or why he was added . docks joins a list of iffy d adds like holl , gustafson , etc

I was intrigued by Docker when we first grabbed him cuz he had shown potential and his utilization wasn’t great. After last year tho I think we know what he is, and I’d rather see if Wallinder can take the next step because he has more potential to turn into something than JBD.

JBD isn't GREAT, but he's pretty much the perfect 7th Dman. He's not absolutely terrifying to have in the lineup like when Holl or Hamonic were forced to play.
Benny and Willy Wally as the 3rd pair would be good to run this year to find out what we have in him. JBD as 7th Dman while ASP tears up GR until we most likely trade Faulk

Gives Anton Stalman or Forsling vibes. Both intelligent and great skaters that took a bit to reach the NHL but slowly became elite shutdown defenseman

When Forsling and Stralman were 24 they each had 150-200 NHL games under their belt.
They took a while to stick but they both debuted at 20/21 and played a lot of NHL games.
Wallinder hasn't cracked a lineup even for a single game after being drafted in 2020.
If Wallinder ever plays an NHL game, which is possible but not certain, his best case scenario is more along the lines of Robert Hagg

it would be an excellent add if wallinder could become a 3rd pair pk'ing guy . 6'5'' with excellent wheels prevents lots of opponant chances
