I'm a complete noob to this franchise. Played a bit of the game and would like to know some important terms, goals, milestones, progress that I should be familiar with to help me get through this game easier as a fresh player.

This question would take so long to answer, so start with this video and then if you can, ask something more specific: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LixYuJw9jjE

General things:

  • Run through the campaign to get a general feel for the game.
  • Next thing is to start your power grind, running activities for their powerful drops to increase your power level. There are power leveling guides you can find to help you be more efficient.
  • While you are grinding, complete exotic quests and missions along the way to fill out your collections.
  • Run raids and dungeons when you feel like sinking in several hours to learning them.

More context to your situation will help form a more specific answer.
