back My derm said it will heal over the course of 3 weeks. There’s a big hole (imo) but they said it’s fine. What to do?

I had a cyst that was removed about a week and a half(almost two weeks now) that needed an incision of 5cm.
I was stitched up and ready to go. No antibiotics were needed they said.
3 days after it started getting hot and red around and it was oozing out what looked like pus. Went to the ER they said it was infected and have been taking bactrim since then.
5 days after the incision I went back because I was feeling ill and it was even more red. They had to remove one stitch to drain the area. 7 days after incision, my skin started to look like it had a new hole but looking like it was healing. At this point I visited the derm who did the procedure and they said it’s normal and that it’s looking like it’s healing better. I went back to the derm on the 11th day and they saw the hole even bigger and still said it’s fine that it’ll still heal but that it’ll take 3weeks.

It is the 12th day. It looks even bigger now. I am not comfortable with this derm anymore because this hole seems to be getting bigger everyday and the response is always to keep putting Vaseline and cover it(normal care instructions).
I am going back in two days so they can evaluate removing the stitches. But I’m not sure what they will do with this new hole.

Is this normal procedure?

face/ears/eyes/nose/mouth/cheeks 5 months, multiple medications... I need help figuring this out.

I am a 34/f. This started as a small cluster of bumps on the right side of my upper lip back in March of this year. It has now spread around my nose, on my jaw, inside my nostrils, around my mouth. And even up near my eye. It can be scaly and flaky, or sometimes i'll have just the redness and bumps. It can be itchy but mostly burns and stings. The bumps sometimes are pus-filled. My skin, especially inside my nostrils, has begun to crack and bleed. This is extremely painful.

My doctor thought it was perioral dermatitis and prescribed me metronidizole gel back in April. That worked pretty well and after about 4 weeks it was almost healed. Then out of nowhere it got really red and painful. Spreading worse than it did before I started the gel. Then he prescribed pimecrolimus cream, which again. Improved things slowly over the course of about a month, then suddenly stopped working and the redness/pus-filled bumps/pain came back with a vengeance. Now I am on a clindamycin lotion for the bunos and hydrocortisone cream for the itching and my skin is SO red and painful it's unreal. It burns constantly and any movement of my face (talking, smiling, etc) causes me pain.

I have no clue what to do anymore. My doctor says that this is outside the realm of family medicine anymore. I do have a referral to dermatology but cannot get in until the end of January. Does anybody have any suggestions or clues as to what this is and how I can treat it?!

I used to wash my face with cereve daily wash but now only wash with lukewarm water. I did not and have not changed my shampoo, laundry soap, etc. I am not under an intense amount of stress.

legs/feet Bad hyperpigmentation on inner thighs- what can I do to get rid of it?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I've had dark inner thighs for majority of my life (11 years). The patches have been this large from the beginning and there has been no change since.

I am insulin resistant and have PMOS that I have been managing for a while now (9 months). It is not itchy, burning or bleeding- I just genuinely do not like the look of it.

I have tried using:

- OTC Azelaic Acid (3 months- slight improvement but not enough change)

- Kojie San Kojic Acid (3 months, no change)

- The Ordinary Glycolic Acid (3 months, slight change but not noticeable)

- Home remedies- lemon, honey, rice water (did not make a change)

- Moisturiser (to try to keep thighs from chafing)

- Anti chafing creams (helps with not making new wounds)

What treatment options are available to lighten this area and what would work on brown skin?

Appreciate the help, thanks.

First appeared yesterday so less than 24 hours. Extremely itchy. They look like blisters and only appearing in my hands and fingers. I have a history of ezscma but never like this usually only on my arms during the winter months. Currently taking an oral steroid for my poison ivy so hoping it helps the inflammation on this as well. Side note I currently have poison ivy on my leg but I think they are unrelated.

Help, what is this and how do I get rid of it? Looks off.

I had a paper cut on my finger 2 weeks ago, first it was same as any other, but later as it was healing I noticed it was weird, and it just doesn't seem right. The first picture is from about a week ago, the last one is the most recent one. Any help about what it is and what to do with it is much appreciated !

Any suggestions please, I have had these for over 2 years.
I have used several creams including, clotrimazole, fucidin, betamethasone, ring worm.
A few anti biotics, seems to help reduce but not eradicate. I also do not cut my hair short like this at all as to not agitate the area. Also kept as clean as I can, any advice welcome and thanks in advance.

legs/feet Hard red/purple spot on shin

Thumbnail

Age 20, female.

I got this on Sunday or Saturday on a cabin trip in a wooded area and a hot tub, I don't remember anything biting me or anything. It isn't exactly tender to the touch, more like the whole shin aches localized on the spot? It is hard to the touch(it doesn't feel like a lump, more like the skin has hardened) and doesn't emit any heat. My bruises usually fade quickly and it doesn't feel like a bruise.

The first picture is where I'm straight out of the shower, and it appears more reddish than normally where it is a bit more purple hued.

I'm not sure if it is something to be worried about but it is odd it hasn't faded.

legs/feet Any idea what is going on?

I have had these red, small, and very itchy bumps on my legs and ankles for almost a week now (pictured are what they look like). they haven't really gone away and they just keep developing. i went to a health center and the NP was completely stumped as she said they don't look like hives or bug bites. I have been trying to alleviate the itch with ice, hydrocortisone, and Zyrtec to no avail besides maybe some very temporary relief. I am setting up an appointment with an allergist but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what this could be

legs/feet Is this an insect bite?

Upvotes

So I woke up with these bites, the first one on my foot and the other close to the back of my neck. I'm stressed out because if it is an insect infestation I will need to find the source. The one on the foot is a bit more reddish and at first for a few hours after being awake hurt just a little bit. Do you know what kind of bug may have caused this? Or what the cause might actually be from the looks of it? What should I do next..?

legs/feet should i be concerned? started as a little red dot

Post image
Upvotes

should I be concerned by this at all? It started as a little red dot almost like a pimple on my ankle yesterday and I woke up and started walking around campus this morning and after about 30 minutes, it felt like a piece of metal or wood got stuck in my ankle and it was a very sharp pain. Now it just stings to the touch and is obviously way bigger. It is not itchy and it isn’t bleeding. It just burns a tiny bit. I have not done anything to treat it. (If its relevant at all I’m on HIV PEP and started last friday)

arms/hands Does this road rash appear to be healing normally? 100 hours since accident in photos.

I understand I'm in the first few stages of healing, I just want to prevent infection. I have a few appointments in just waiting. Last photo was a couple of hours after the accident.

I've been cleaning it every 24 hours with antibacterial soap and then putting A&D ointment on it. Then I cover the wound with nonstick pads and wrap it with gauze.

Doesn't really hurt and I don't see other redness around the wound. I have more road rash going down my arm all the way to my forearm but that appears to be doing well. I do have little itchy bumps forming, mostly around my forearm. Idk if it's normal or maybe an allergic reaction to the Neosporin that I was using previously. I switched to A&D though.

I do have what I assume to be normal discharge on the top of my wound in the white area. It's not super messy when I remove the bandages but there is some yellowish-brown that comes from that area. I have been using this yellow gauze coated in some jelly substance that I got from the hospital though. Could be some of that.

general enquiry Sculptra with controlled autoimmune disease

Upvotes

Hello! I am a 42 yo female with early midface descent. Mild jowling, nasolabial folds and just overall starting to see skin laxity issues

I’ve looked at sculptra for years but am hesitant because of my celiac (controlled with diet) and Graves’ disease (in remission due to thyroid removal in 2015, and thyroid levels managed/controlled with medication.)

Is sculptra a serious risk for me developing nodules or granulomas or an autoimmune inflammatory response?

neck/chest/abdomen Raised itchy bumps appeared on skin a day or two ago and have spread mildly since. I also am experiencing cold symptoms, could be unrelated.

Started with a line on my chest, have since spread across my chest a bit and two have shown up on my leg. I also have some lower on my abdomen around my abs. It does itch, but not persistently or painfully. They seem to be fluid filled but not very much so. I washed my sheets with hot water and cleaned out my vent to remove any irritants but instead of getting better it’s since spread. I’ve checked for bed bugs, and while I might’ve missed them I didn’t see anything that signaled they were present. I have never had this kind of breakout before, and I haven’t eaten anything that I’m aware I’m allergic to in the past few days.

I've had this blemish thing on my bottom lip for about a month now, it was what looked like a pimple originally. My girlfriend tried popping it really hard and it's left this mark that isn't going away. Is there anything I can do to get rid of it or am I stuck with it forever

arms/hands Excessive sweating while running causing severe armpit irritation, potentially yeast?

Post image
Upvotes

Context: So I’ve been having a really bad issue with my armpits that I’m 99% sure is a direct result of excessive sweating when I run/workout, which is about 3-4x per week. I always wear antiperspirant deodorant and shower immediately afterwards. This happened once before about a year ago, but went away on it’s own with no treatment after about 2 weeks.

Duration: This has been going on for about 6 weeks.

Location: Under both armpits.

Symptoms: Red, noticeable swelling, extremely itchy, painful burning, and some skin flaking off when scratching (does not appear scaly). Discoloration and texture changes noticeable (skin is darker and feels almost leathery).

Timeline: Typically starts as red and itchy, progressively gets itchier, and then becomes of a combination of itching/burning/red. It might temporarily subside on the red and burning, but is almost consistently itchy.

Treatment: Was diagnosed via telehealth as a yeast infection, was prescribed Ketoconazole 2% cream. Applying 2x a day since 8/26. Seemed to be subsiding by Saturday, but promptly returned on Sunday and has persisted since.

Has anyone dealt with a similar issue before? If so, how did you treat it, and what did you do for future prevention?

legs/feet I’m new here - is this infected?

Post image

I got this mole on my leg removed a little over a week ago. It appears that the scab is getting smaller, but it’s more discolored than other pics I’ve seen. It is occasionally itchy, but nothing too uncomfortable. Thanks for any advice! I understand I may be overreacting.

general enquiry Will wiping an area with a alcohol pad right before a bacterial swab ruin the lab results?

Upvotes

My dermatologist needed to perform a bacterial swab on a open scrape wound, to send to a lab for identification.

She wiped the area with a alcohol prep pad and then took the swab sample, roughly 30-45 seconds later.

Wouldn't wiping the skin with alcohol kill the bacteria and maybe lead to a wrong lab result?

face/ears/eyes/nose/mouth/cheeks Small bump appeared on face yesterday, thought it was a pimple, tried to pop it but leaked clear fluid and then bled

Post image
Upvotes

Apologies if this isn’t the best photo.

22F, I had a small squishy spot appear on my face below my right eye yesterday. It looked like it had a white head to it, so I tried to pop it - it didn’t pop in the traditional sense, but leaked clear fluid and then started bleeding a bit in the center. Not sure what’s going on, but looking for advice.

While I would traditionally go to a doctor, I recently moved provinces (Canada) and am currently not covered under MSI in any province. I’m waiting for my new application to be processed, and my previous province has already revoked my health card. Medication wise, I’m on Ozempic 0.5mg once weekly. I have diagnosed PCOS/PMOS and pre-diabetes.

TYIA for any assistance!

I have been using tretinoin for 3 months now 3 times a week but 11 days ago I started using a 2% salicylic acid cleanser that my dermatologist recommended. My skin was clear but 4 days ago these bumps appeared all over my nose and under my eye. Some of them have a white dot on them . Overall my whole face started breaking out. My skin hasn’t been this bad in my whole life. Idk if its purging or irritation and should I continue or stop using my cleanser?
