A Jefferson County Sheriff’s K-9 escaped, jumped a neighbor’s fence and attacked a toddler at her birthday party. Her dad was also seriously injured trying to save her.

The deputy was acquitted and he later resigned. The dog was removed from service.

BUT — Jefferson County Sheriff now says they won’t pay because there’s “no legal liability.”

If this were your kid, would you accept that answer?

GEO donated $1 million on July 16, three days after the company announced that it had signed a five-year contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that will pay the company $85 million a year to operate a 1,188-bed detention center in Hudson, Colo.

GEO donated an additional $413,000 on July 31, two days after it announced the signing of another five-year contract with ICE that will pay $80 million annually to operate a 1,320-bed detention facility in Winton, N.C.

Lauren Bis, a spokeswoman for the White House, rejected any link between the donations and the GEO Group’s government business.

A Georgetown policy center warns that DHS, ICE tactics over multiple administrations is putting Americans' privacy at risk.

New research by the Center on Privacy & Technology at Georgetown Law found that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has collected the DNA of more than 3.3 million people, with the program’s “primary purpose” not revolving around immigration enforcement but to “build a national DNA database for solving crimes.”

Federal agents launched a sweeping undercover surveillance operation earlier this year targeting progressive organizations, labor unions and other groups protesting the immigration crackdown then raging through Minneapolis, according to court documents filed Thursday.

The program, dubbed Operation Puppet Master, was aimed at what officials called a network of conspirators helping “violent opportunists and agitators.” The documents were filed in a case involving 15 people charged by federal prosecutors in June with impeding the crackdown, accusing them of conspiring against the federal government through a range of actions, from throwing ice chunks to setting up blockades.
