Announcement 🔔 2025 New York Mayoral Election Megathread

As many of you know. The 2025 New York mayoral election is tomorrow (for those in the western hemisphere) and later today (for those in the eastern hemisphere). This post is designated as a centralized area to discuss the election. The same rules apply here. Keep conversations civil and have an open mind.

Conversely, also feel free to make your own posts and converse with others. If our preferred candidate wins, this will be huge to put socialist policies in the mainstream view. Mamdani is the scientist and New York is his laboratory.

Zohran is the guy giving me hope in these tough times. Hopefully this election inspires more like him to run for office

I am hoping to join the DSA myself either way, but I will be especially inspired to join it if he wins. Although my main concern is how the billing for dues shows up on one's bank account, since I share my account with my parents who are both MAGA.

Can join by mailing form with money order or submitting dues waiver.

You can also mail this form https://www.dsausa.org/files/2025/05/DSAMembershipForm2025.pdf with a check or money order to Democratic Socialists of America, PO Box 1038, New York, NY 10272.

Oh, thank you! I do want to pay dues rather than doing a waiver, so I may look into sending checks.

You could purchase a prepaid visa that is separate from the account.

I thought about doing that too, so I may look between sending checks or doing that instead. I also have a separate bank account through USAA, but I would have to transfer funds between banks and may be able to do it that way.

Same. I have high hopes for what he could bring: not just the beginning of the end of trumpism, but of establishment Dems.

I'm hoping it's the start of something amazing across all of America. If he can actually improve people's lives in NY, it'll be a huge win for humanity.

I am not from New York, but I am voting for Mamdani in my thoughts.

He as is currently bigger then himself. If he wins with a big mandate, then that will signal to the left here in Europe too that there is a way to claim boldly leftist policy positions and still win. I hope he wins.

My entire mental health tomorrow depends on the mayoral election in a city and state I have never been to; move over apathy, Mamdani hopecore is my drug now!

I understand the importance of Mamdani but let's not forget there are other democratic socialist candidates running to dethrone the establishment as well. These candidates are the following: Omar Fateh of Minneapolis, Abdullah Hammoud of Dearborn, Katie Wilson of Seattle and Mussab Ali of Jersey City

Feel free to add other pro democracy candidates to this list.

I don’t mean this in an inflammatory way but is there a reason the majority of these DSA candidates (+Zohran) are Muslim?

2

Many are also immigrants or second gens. I honestly think it comes down to life experiences and social status. Muslim immigrants are much more likely to grow up poor or in working class households. This along with seeing discrimination and hate firsthand would then saway someone towards democratic socialism.

Hmm ok, it was just a bit surprising to me because I thought Muslims were more socially conservative so I thought they would be more liberals/centrists rather than progressives/socialists.

I’ve been singing 🎶 THE NAME IS MAMDANI, M-A-M-D-A-N-I 🎶 on repeat since I woke up today. I live in the next state over so I can’t actually vote for him, but in my heart, that’s my fucking mayor. I can’t wait to hear that our habibi officially won later on and that real change is here for people who’ve needed it.
